Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Gonna wait a few days to see how it all pans out. If all goes well, I shall return with my Aoi of destruction!

That’s one reason I’m getting this game. I’ll be watching Eileen’s animations to refine my techniques and even learn them.

And I can’t imagine anything but the use of motion capturing.

you can help to make it go well.

BTW, I hope more people see it http://shoryuken.com/2012/06/04/15359/

Need to wait till 2 more days for Australian PSN to update because I decided to not get a US PSN card :frowning:

why?
you can always get it at maximuscards its $24 for the $20 card, its secure and its quick in the email delivering, if not instant

I just made a vfdc account, same username over there and everything. See you guys online tomorrow!

I don’t know which character to play. How would you summarize the characters’ styles?

Oh for real? I just went on play-asia yesterday and saw that they make like 10$ off of you and the fact that sometimes they send you the code like weeks later so I didnt want to risk it. If maximuscards is quick I might go for it.

Also, does anyone know if I buy the game on US PSN if the DLC costume will work if I buy them off the Aussie PSN?

yes, i always buy my psn card from them, and i get the code instantly, they have the 20 psn card at 24, and the 50 psn card at 58, a good deal if you ask me

usually no, at least no with other games

Ehh I caved. It cost me $65.66 for a $50 card. I hate that the Aussie dollar is so low atm. BUT ANYTHING FOR VF!

And yea, it came instantly. Cheers Hecatom!

VFDC for everything else.

This is probably the best introduction to Virtua Fighter ever. LA mentions many times that VF isn’t a game where you look at the tier list and pick someone. You literally pick a character you like. Lau is a pretty simple character to start off with but Vanessa maybe be someone to avoid in the beginning due to the amount of moves she has, unless you like that sort of thing. Jacky knows Jeet Kune Do so he is the Law of the game I guess and Sarah is a variant that imho resembles Nina if we are comparing them to Tekken characters. Akira is like a more damaging and execution requiring variant of Leo. Taka,Jeffery,Wolf and maybe Goh are grapplers but from what I know Taka has the strongest throw game.

Its hard to describe each one individually and I’m not the knowledgable one at this title but I’ll give you a general nod to each.

Akira - Hakkyoku-ken: Think hard hitting punches and elbows. Akira is the staple of the series, the “Ryu” of Virtua Fighter
Pai - Ensei-Ken: Quick, a very mobile character with graceful strings. She used to play like daddy alot but shes slowly changed away over the years.
Lei-Fei - Shaolin Kung-Fu: Not much to be said there. Has a few stance changes as well so not the easiest of characters to learn off the bat.
Aoi - Aiki Ju-Jutsu: Best way I describe her is a more jabby version of Asuka Kazama from Tekken. Same sort of style in regards to throws and counters.
Goh - Judo: Assassination style Judo but his style in Vanilla 5 is drastically different from his Final Showdown version. He was too grab based originally but has better pokes now. Lord Haunts (and most of us like Goh)
Kage - Hagakure-ryu Ju-Jutsu: NINJA! Very good strings with a 2 stance style. Not the most popular character anymore but always a solid choice. Myke loves him.
Sarah - Martial Arts: Like Pai/Lau her and her brother Jacky used to be close in styles but they’ve tried to seperate them. Very good on kicks. A solid choice I think for most, as is Jacky.
Jacky - Jeet Kune Do: Every fighting game needs a Bruce Lee  . "YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"
Eileen - Kou-Ken: Monkey style kung-fu. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? And in the form of a teenage girl!
Brad - Kick Boxing: Presenting the BRAD SHOW! He’s the Muay Thai variant that isn’t asian. Pretty cool option.
Shun - Drunken Kung-Fu: Powers up from drinking alcohol. Every 1 drink he lists gives him 1% more damage. Fuudo’s character of choice.
Lau - Koen-Ken: An easier option for most, has good strings and pokes but still has a solid damage output in experienced hands. Just need to customize the old man out of him XD
Jeffry - Pancratium**: Hard hitting, had one of the scariest wall games in R for damage. Also features one of my favourite throws (the GTS)
Vanessa - Vale Tudo: Combat is her game. Has a defensive and offensive stance for a massive move list but a solid mix up. Just don’t think Marduk.
Wolf - Pro Wrestling: BURNNNNNIIIINNNNNGGGGGG HAMMMMMMEERRRRRRRR! A throw that does almost half health? YES PLEASE!
Lion - Tourou-Ken: A mantis style martial arts. Most people dislike the character and not the style with Lion but a solid choice and a long time favourite of Chibita’s.
El Blaze - Lucha Libre Wrestling: HOT DOG! Uses runs which can allow him to either throw or use different attacks to try and confuse. Also apparently can jump up onto half walls now!
Taka-Arashi - Sumo: Heaviest character in the series, a very hard hitting character. Pretty much a wall of a man.
Jean - Karate: His attacks hit hard, kinda like Akira’s but he’s more punch/kick than elbows. Hard to describe but a fun option.

Best bet is to youtube the different characters and see how they are played and what tickles your fancy. Hope that helped.
EDIT: http://virtuadojo.blogspot.co.uk/ is a good place to search via character. He organizes all the catagories by their names so you can easily find the vids on each.

That… doesn’t really say much. I just want a simple character that rewards fundamentals so I can just look at a top 10 moves list and start rolling with it.

why aint kage as popular?

I mean i have my reasons why i dont like him as much as i use to but i’d like the general opinion

@ tataki, Lau, Elbow elbow elbow, throws, lows, guard break, bf+p, jackknife, 2p

I dunno i dont really think you can do a top 10 moves to trollolol, if you get predictabo, you’ll end up getting battered, especially by decent players, every move has a slight risk

All characters reward fundamentals, I think this has more to do with the VF system than anything. Lau and Pai are simple characters you may want to try first.

What about Jacky?

Jacky has some combos that require good execution but you could also find more simple juggles to use at the beginning. Other than that he is a valid choice for a character to start off with.

Like the restand 4K stuff?

Jacky’s iaigeri comboes can be pretty tough to do, other than that I don’t remember anything too hard about him.

I’d like to throw in my personal opinion, from back when i was playing alot of 4evo of course this aint 4evo.
Jacky for me was a very tough character to use, not in terms execution like now maybe.
jacky has a lot of moves/tools knowing when exactly how and when to use them i found very overwhelming, back then he had alot of stuff where you needed to hit confirm, i just found him quite hard to win with, maybe if i had continued using him exclusively things might have been different
