Was a Goh player since 4:EVO but gonna switch it up to Jean in FS. Got a chance to try Jean out in 2010 in Japan and wanted to play him since.

I definitely want to stick with Wolf as my main, but I might sub Jacky for Goh as my sub. I’ve heard that Goh is less execution heavy, and he just looks like an awesome character
Characters I really wanna play atm are Jacky, Sarah, Aoi and Jean…but I’m starting off with Jean atm. I know there are gonna be a heck of alot of Jean players, but all the more motivation to be the best with him =]
Im gonna start with Wolf first and foremost jus cuz Im a wrestling fan and Wolf is the most wrestling oriented character ever created in a fighter, from what i know.
I also might try Jean…KARATE!!!
My first VF was 4 (pre-evo). I just loved playing with Vanessa, so I’ll def stick with her. I’l also pick up a few more characters; Goh, Eileen, Brad and (probably) Lau.
It was deciding between lau and lei-fei. I like both but Fei is like…the definition of an @$$hole according to his story. It’s not that he tried to kill Lau, its that he tried to kill him after betraying the people who sent him to kill lau and becoming his student…and only to force Lau into showing him his techniques quicker. Can’t believe I used to play the guy like he was an honorable hero of sorts >_>
yeah, I include story and personality in character choice, so sue me.

So I was watching one of the only VF players around here dick around in training mode in VF5, and Brad looks cool as fuck. I only played regular old 4 (in super scrub mode) so I had never even seen him until now. I might try him out before I settle on a character.
The worst part about training/learning VF is figuring out which of the million moves and strings are worth remembering and using. I mean, sure, I know you need certain tools (like an elbow-class mid, a reasonably quick low, a juggle starter, etc.), but it all comes from a huge list of things.
WTF happened to BunBunmaru’s Jean matches on YT? They all vanished! And yeah, I’m going to play Jean.
There’s an in-game shop and money? Does this mean there’s MORE customisable stuff on top of the DLC packs?
Brad IS cool as fuck, I have no clue how to use him, but I mucked around with him a bit in VF5 vanilla, and he certainly has some flair in his moveset. The way he can duck and dodge after almost every attack makes him look really useful in the right hands. He just seems to have so many options to follow up and/or escape during his strings. I think his biggest weakness was throws.
I know what you mean about choosing the right moves as well, the movelist is gargantuan. I usually go throw the movelist in the training and it’s like you said. I just try to remember the moves that immediately seem the most useful, then when I’m familiar with all of those I might bulk up with more and more.

He is boring to use though, less so in 4evo where i thought he was one of the hardest to use execution wise, harder than akira imo and i’ve played both, i dunno much about 5 though i hardly played it, looks boring though, lau i mean, fuck even akira looks easy as fuck now
Well, I think you may be over-complicating things a little bit because everyone’s basic tools use the same commands, more or less. Your go-to elbow move will almost always be 6P, your +15 punisher is usually based around a P+K command, your mid-kick is always 3K, low sweeps are 2K+G, etc. It gets complicated from there, but one of the good things about VF (and this goes for Street Fighter too) is that if you see a move in action, you can guess the command pretty easily.
