Goddamn right it is. This will be my mantra for some time.
Totally going PS360 for this, and you can bet some of the VFDC crew and I will be playing this until our eyeballs explode at Evo. Hope y’all will join us.

Well fucking played Sega! 15 bucks? The mega DLC packs sound cheap as well, I will buy all of it! Damn words can’t describe the joy.

I’m shocked that I only have to wait three more weeks for this game to come out. For $15, imma be on that double dip also.
I just tried to post this comment in the release date announcement blog, but it seems comments have to be approved so it obviously will never be approved. I’ll share it here and at VFDC once that website starts working again:
"Lol. All items will be included when you download the game, (so that you can see other player’s items even if you haven’t bought those DLCs) but you will have to pay an extra $124.79 to UNLOCK it all. This is even worse than the SFxT on-disc DLC fiasco.
Thanks Sega. For years upon years, we VF fans rigorously and aggressively support this series despite it having a small scene outside of Japan and also despite a couple of entries in the series never seeing release outside of Japan. And this is how you thank us: By seeing us as nothing more than cattle to milk for the money that you idiots lost over the past decade with the many terrible decisions you’ve made. I feel sorry for the hard-working employees who had to get laid off, but not for Sega itself. Sega got exactly what it deserved when all its bad decisions finally caught up with it and was forced to downsize. But the fans have to pay for Sega’s poor decision-making too it seems… -_-
Should’ve saw this coming though. When Sega promised that each Episode of Sonic 4 was only going to cost $5, then they got raised to $15 each… that was a pretty big red flag of how this company was going to start to treat its loyal fans.
And we haven’t even seen the scariest part yet: The fact that Sega is STILL quiet about the price of the Final Showdown game itself can only mean it’s a number that we’re not going to like. As in possibly as much as $40. We could be looking at as much as $200 total to have access to the entire VF5FS console experience. Still think Sega is a cool company that does favors for its fans? Lol ok."
And inb4 you “gameplay is all that matters” elitists storm all over me: Yes gameplay is the most important thing in the end, but my point is that you all will be paying for the game once, and then be asked to pay again to unlock things you’ve already paid for once. You already bought the FS game and as such should be entitled to all content it comes with. (aka the customization items in this case) But Sega is asking you to be pay an extra $125 for nothing more than UNLOCK CODES for things you already have on your harddrive ready to go right now. If you could manually unlock customization items through playing like the old days, then sure it would be ok to have the OPTION to obtain items with money. But your ONLY option is to pay AGAIN for stuff you’ve technically already paid for once.
I mean when you buy a DVD from the store and it has bonus features like behind-the-scenes etc, you don’t have to pay extra again to unlock that shit. Because that would be incredibly stupid. But that’s exactly what’s happening with the console FS, and many many many many other games nowadays. And you idiots will keep paying for it and then companies will keep thinking this practice is acceptable and then it will keep getting worse and worse and worse and by next-gen, the standard will be $70 for a game off the shelf with at least half of its content locked unless you pay at least an extra $30. Have fun paying $100+ for each new game cause that’s where this industry between the greediness of companies and stupidness of customers.
Don’t get me wrong, I love VF and am glad to have a new VF to play finally. But holy shit did Sega go well out its way to rain the fuck all over this parade. What should be a glorious moment in fighting game history will now forever be covered in the stench of unrelenting corporate greed and topped off with a rotting cherry in the fact that Sega is slapping the long-time VF fans in the face HARD with this practice. I don’t wanna hear anyone trying to say that Sega cares about the fans, because this was never about doing a favor to the fans by giving them a console FS. This was ONLY about another opportunity to milk money. If Sega cared about the fans, this game would be no more than $20 with NO NEED to pay extra to unlock the rest of the game that you’ve already paid for. The arcade version of FS has more than made the money back it cost to produce as well as covering the cost of a console port, there’s no need for Sega to go this far with draining the wallet of its long-time passionate fans.
EDIT: Where was it confirmed that this game will cost $15? And has it been confirmed that paying just the bare minimum does not limit your experience in any way besides customization items? And where was it confirmed that you can’t see other player’s items if you haven’ bought them? (that seems like a terrible idea cause it severely limits the value of buying DLC items if you can’t show off your custom chars to everyone you play against online)

FIFTEEN DOLLARS!!!
Quoting this whole post just as an example of what happens when people make a fool of themselves. If there ever was a facepalm moment, this is it.
I can finally sit Ganryu down for a minute and get some of this Taka pimping in my life.
Sega doesn’t truly hate us anymore. In light of this news, I’m actually gonna play some Ver. B Jeff today.
2 words: HOOOOOT DOOOOOG!!!
I’m bout to lose my damn mind waiting for this game. Finally, I can play a decent version of Goh without struggling so damn much.
With these bargain prices for all the goodies there is no reason to not try this game out. The only real complaint I have is that there won’t be a way for your opponent to see your customizations if they don’t have the dlc. Wish they’d fix that.
Wow, VFDC is dead. Good job guys! hahahah
Are you seriously gonna copy and paste that here? There’s always one…
LOL yup VFDC got straight flooded. I’ve never been so happy to not be able to access a site in my life. That’s means all the boys are in the yard.
As I understand it…
Game = $15
Costume Pack 1 (for 10 characters) = $15
Costume Pack 2 (for remaining 9 characters) = $15
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In total (game and all items) = $45
If you don’t want either bundle because you only want items for one or two characters, there’s an option for that too:

Individual Costume Packs (for each character) = $5
But at most, you’ll only spend $45.
And also, the data for the items don’t come with the game. This is why you’ll only see items you’ve purchased and downloaded.
lol.
This is what happens when you don’t read.
Yes this game is $15 and all it impacts is the costumes.
VFDC is back up finally.
EDIT: at least the front page is, I can’t access the threads.
I was already sure to buy it but… I didn’t imagine it could be this cheap. Now I’ll force my friends to buy it, too. Lol
Why doesn’t Jean have a video thread? I really have to search that massive video thread to see if Bunbunmaru’s Jean ever showed up again?
This is correct!!
And for those who didn’t realize it clear, please don’t spread the wrong information.
Yes. I see now that the blog article was confusingly written and that in reality it may only cost a total of $45 for the game and ALL DLC. If that is the case, then that is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE AND REALLY AWESOME OF SEGA. And I apologize for my rant.
Though the fact that other players can’t see your items if they haven’t also bought your items is incredibly lame. (if this is even confirmed to be true. I don’t think it is but we’ll know soon enough)
Yea but that doesn’t mean too much for the future of the franchise in the States. All that confirms for now is that people will customize characters until they grow tired of mashing with only 3 buttons.
Expect the dedicateds to continue to shape the scene. Maybe a handful of newer players will remain on the ship after it sails. But honestly, I think the netcode is crucial to the game’s success. I mean really. I don’t expect there to be too many more locals or tournaments besides what already exists from the hotspots and 1 or 2 other communities here. First week, yea there’ll be hype and front page “technologicals” and all that shit. Then it’s going to go back to what it was, except for a few new heads sticking with it.
Sad, but it’s the truth.
