Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

If it’s anything like Tekken, we’ll have lag switching and rage quitting Marduks sitting at #1 position with Tekken God rank.

Ugh I had to deal with that stuff in various third person shooters. I did notice some funky stuff in T6 on PSN but it wasn’t enough to confirm that they were lagswitching. BTW are you referring to T5DR Marduks or did the same lagswitcher top T6 as well?

Wait… people play ranked match. Let the titlewhore scrub it out we all know the really players play player match.

T6, although this was some time ago, it could’ve changed that it’s someone else now.

Actually, the “really players” don’t play online at all because Tekken online is so bad. Here’s still hoping FS will be better.

What are the “really players” and how do get that ranked?

Online Gaming ranked matches and leaderboards are jokes, I hate seeing topics come up about leaderboards not working, being cheated, or being taken seriously.

Yes, I’m aware there are people who think they mean something. They dumb.

LOL @ that vid shiny. “shit-combos”.

Yeah leaderboards are easily gamed but hopefully the persistent stat tracking is better in VF5FS ranked mode. No company actually moderates the leaderboards as far as I’m aware. Why even tout it as a feature?

My guess is because it sells games to people who are silly enough to think it matters.

I think they’re required.

Oh, Hi. I didn’t see you there.

UFGT8 will have VF5FS. The midwest’s first chance to play! http://ufgtus.wordpress.com/2012/04/17/virtua-fighter-5-final-showdown-tournament-at-ufgt8-free-entry-cash-prize/

Those combos were the shit

I still can’t commit to going to UFGT8 nooooooo

re: that video - the combos are all techable and do sub-optimal damage. I did a quick google translate on it to make sure that’s what it was.

Well they all can’t be gems. I will beast you all with my poo flinging combos.

So for those really interested, there are going to be online tourneys going on when FS drops. Discussion is going on right now about the format. So far its looking like Single elimination and Swiss style rotation. There’s more info at VFDC so go there if you want to learn more.

What’s “Swiss” style?

I never undestood straight away online tourneys for new fighters. Tekken had them, and that game’s netcode is terrible so in the end nobody had fun nor was it any sort of judge of skill. Would wait for like a week before doing any sort of competition.

I think its the only way new players that don’t have money to travel or not want to travel can get some tourney time. But I agree online tourney are pretty wack.

The exact link Femto mentioned is here:

I am one of the person organizing this series of online events. Hope to reveal more about them in the coming weeks. The goal of these online events is to provide an organized format for people living in a similar region (veterans and new members) to compete and also to get to know each other–for better or for worse :). If for the better, I hope these online events will get people living in a similar area to participate in local offline gatherings within their regions.

Online play can never replace offline play, so if you live close to an event, please attend!

I reserved a hotel room for this event already. Looking forward to playing VF5FS the entire weekend!

Regarding online leaderboards, I think they have their value. Usually they start breaking down at the higher levels, and they’re not useful for epeen, but they provide an additional motivation to play. We all know from MMOs and many other genres that watching numbers go up has a powerful addictive factor.
Personally, I’ve always enjoyed being able to filter the leaderboards by regions - it’s meaningless being #3245 in the world, but quite fun being #121 in your state, especially as you start to recognise other usernames and make your goal to beat them
Sure, we have offline competition for that too, but you want people to play more often than just twice a month, right? And it’s no fun if all they have outside those times is training mode?

VF5’s netcode isn’t anywhere near as bad, but eh. The purpose of the tournies is to get some games in at a regular time and sustain interest, since VF5 isn’t all that active online. edit: whoops akai already explained
