What happened was the VF3 in arcades was like a $1 to play, and this was back in 1997. The reason why the went back to the VF2-style was because the players in VF3 ended up playing on Akira’s dojo anyways.
I didn’t get to play it until the DC port and was stoked. Soul Calibur was my hold over that made the wait somewhat shorter(which VF2 and Fighters Megamix also did). The port was as bare bones as it got with graphics not up to par with arcades, a long standing tradition of AM2 ports, that finally ended with VF5 on the PS3 and 360.
Now that I understand VF A LOT MORE as opposed to back then, I would LOVE a re-release of all the VFs with arcade perfect graphics and online play. I still have DC, but would love to have this on a system I have a stick for.
I have seen Bunbunmaru, Ikekuburo Sarah, and Kyasao playing in FS tourneys. Kyasao can still play at a fairly high level (compared to the current Japanese top players).
In the U.S> that would be CID KID. Funny you don’t see that many Lei Fei Japanese players in the Final Showdown youtube Vids. It’s mostly Jean, Akira , Vanessa , Eileen and Goh.
Ok, so a debate rose up in gamefaqs about whether you should play VF5 FinalShowdown with a pad. Scoff. You shouldn’t play any fighting game with a pad, especially not VF. Do you really want to try to do Akuma’s air fireballs with a pad or his** Raging Demon** with a shitty pad? HELL No!! It’s an exercise in frustration and why bother. It’s a hundred times easier with an arcade stick. Go through Super** Street Fighter 4’s** combo trials with a pad,you will waste days trying to do those combos, the timing is too strict and the control pad is too slow (especially those mushy analog buttons). VF the timing is even more strict and the hit throws require hit confirmation and expert timing. Don’t use a pad unless you are a complete fool. Virtua Fighter 5 is only as hard or as easy as you make it.
Anyway, I challenged this idiotic pad player ( JETLIAN ) to a match in VF5 since he supposedly knew so much and pad was so awesome. Look at what happens. You will lol.

It get’s better, here’s part 2:

I’m fine with my DualShock 3, in Street Fighter at least. Marvel is okay, I don’t really attempt difficult comboes with it so I can’t say much for that. It just took practice for me, when it came to SF. I was a total newbie in the beginning, I seriously did Bison’s forward teleport when I tried to do his Ultra 2. This was back when it was QCF (2) 3K. How does that become a teleport, lol.
I’ll nab a stick when I get a job. Considering the ages of people here, I mean there are husbands and dads here, and I’m a high school junior, I imagine I’ll still be gaming for long so I’m in no rush for it. I just hope these games last long like how Marvel 2 and 3rd Strike did, fat chance though.
Wow. And I was going to donate to your travel fund. Live and learn. In a game as dependent on reaction time as Vf5, why use a controller with analog buttons that are overall slower response time than an arcadestick with sanwa buttons? How about you take the same advice you gave me. I’ll be at PAX East checking out Final Showdown on April 6. By all means take out a collection to got there and play against me with a pad.
Wow, Godokunodan upped up the retard level while I was gone. Good job!
VF with a pad is a little bit of a bitch though because I personally need to bind almost every multi button shortcut to the shoulder buttons to play properly, maybe I should invest in a Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro.
LOL If it wasn’t for Shidosha I wouldn’t know who that troll is. Anyway you can play on a pad no problem I personally prefer using a stick. Hell there are people who can actually do knee consistently on a pad. The Norcal VF stream was awesome and at first the stream monsters were trolling it up, and spewing hate about VF. After Wolf their attitudes seem to change and actually got hype for the game. I think there were 5000 people watching the stream so I hope some of them decide to pick it up and try it out.
