I fucking jumped out of my seat when I saw this. I’ve been putting a little bit of work into Pikachu, but this is insane.

Wait why is it called that and not just Kara Demon like in 3s
Guess the guy wants some fame for finding it
Always hated it when people did that, I only saw it happen in smash before though. So silly.
Corey and I invented the “cancer dash” with baiken in GGXX
Just trust me on this, mashing d/f to d/b back and forth is better. Unless you have the Robot Devil’s hands, you are probably already doing this when you try mashing d/f to d and back.
Gx3vi, do I have you on my XBL friends list?
I sort of agree with everyone on the subject of glitches. It is kind of like bad art that plagued pre-2008 2d games (Arc System games aside). Fighting gamers value gameplay over graphics. This is good. But, there is no reason we can’t have our cake and eat it too. Namco and Sega-Am2 been proving this is possible for over a decade now. Likewise, patching shouldn’t be this difficult. Soul Calibur 4 got a balance patch after ~ a month. The most difficult part of it ought to be deciding what needs to be patched and what is ok to allow. Is it Sony/MS red tape? Or classic lazy Capcom?
Speaking of Capcom. Pointing out all the things wrong with SF4 proves what I learned back in November. Capcom of Japan sucks. Period. Capcom of America on the other hand, thanks to hiring someone like Seth Killian because they care about their fans and understand that sometimes the fans have the best ideas, proved they were awesome when STHD was released. STHD did everything right from the start. You don’t see your opponent’s name, rank, or character choice before the game actually starts. So no playing musical chairs at the select screen trying to counter character each other. And STHD actually punished droppers. More importantly, STHD had player match rooms that could hold up to 6 people. So Correy, Everett, me, and 3 more whoevers could play together. Capcom of Japan handled everything for SF4 and look at how fugly it is.
It goes to further prove what I’ve known for about 5 years now. These celebrity lead designers are all fucking morons. Oh sure, they were probably good at something once upon a time or else they wouldn’t be in their position. But when it comes to the fighting game genre they are dumbasses. I’m talking about ol’ Cookie-Puss who headed up Team Ninja (the DoA people), Sakurai of Nintendo, and Ono of Capcom.
First, Cookie-Puss (I can’t remember his name, but dude has the ugliest skin on a mammal I have ever seen). Dead or Alive is the laughing stock of the competitive community. It always has been. But to hear this guy talk, you’d think it was the greatest game made. DoA’s system is a poorly conceived rip off of VF. And while Tekken has had its bombs (Tekken4…), it is worlds ahead of DoA. The only thing DoA had going for it was exposure. It is in all the bullshit MLG/WCG competitions because guess who sponsors them? Microsoft (Xbox). And guess what XBox’s flagship fighting game is…
Second, Sakurai. Nintendo is amazing at making action/adventure games that are fun and memorable. Everyone knows who Mario is. Think about this. How many people in the world know who Michael Jordan is? How many know who Mario is? I’d say it’s pretty close. Does he know how to make a good competitive “fighting” game? Survey saaaaaays… Let’s look at the facts. Smash Brothers is a genius idea. Make a competitive platform-action game starring all of Nintendo’s properties. Pure genius. Smash 64 was big. Melee was off the damn charts. If you went to a tournament anywhere from 2002-2008, you were probably sick of seeing fucking Melee. Because love it or hate it, Melee put butts in the seats, so to speak. It drew numbers. Melee had a handful of glitches or “clever uses of game mechanics” (I love that Blizzard term) that helped the flow of the game. Watching top melee play is a joy. Don’t believe me? Watch this, if you can stand the commentary Brawl comes out, and Brawl should have been huge. The Smash community was hype for Brawl. SRK was hype for Brawl (it had been 7 years since Capcom did anything worth a damn). Everyone was going to get into it. Sakurai fucked over the competitive community. He added random tripping, almost every new stage has to be banned in tournaments because you are fighting the crazy stage more than your opponent, most of the new characters have ridiculous recovery abilities and are broke, Meta Knight is way more broke than SF4 Sagat, tripping exists, and he removed hit stun! You can’t combo worth a shit, unless it is chain throws, because nothing has enough hit stun anymore. Power characters like Capt. Falcon and Gannon (who didn’t get their moves sped up at all), advance to bottom tier, do not pass go, do not collect 200 coins. Like Michael said, a big fuck you to the tournament community which was getting HUGE in America. My only regret is that there is no way to take back all of the money he made on Brawl just from the hype. I hope the next Smash tanks financially (it won’t) just so he can see what a dumb ass he is.
Finally Ono. Why are we not getting SF4 patches? Because Ono wants everyone to play the same version of the game. That’s it, in a nutshell. You won’t see a SF4 balance patch for that reason. Truth be told, he’s saving up for a SF: Champion Edition or whatever. Honesty, I love SF4. And I think it is a happy accident it is this good. He wanted to cater this game to beginners, but why do we have so many 1 frame links and why are FADCs so difficult? He’s also a poor marketer because why would you say something like “We wanted this game to appeal to beginners as well as experts. If the beginners become experts and decide they want something more deep for them, there is always 3rd Strike.” Yeah, call your new game a gateway drug to your 10 year old game. Smart move, dick. It’s not secret what I think of 3s anyway :razzy: Although having listened to Gootecks’s podcasts, I was too hard on the game and I probably missed out on some enjoyment by not further pursuing it. Oh well, that’s the past. The point is, jackass needs to at least pretend that this is the game all the 3s players are going to want to come to.
I wonder if Ono had anything to do with TvC. I know it was all Capcom of Japan and we see how that game turned out. “Hey, let’s take some ideas from GGXX…and eff them up royally!” My one hope for this game is that people at Evo will see TvC beside Accent Core and Blazblue and actually recognize that TvC is trash. That’s unfortunate because TvC is the best fighting game ever made when it comes to all of the things that have nothing to do with being a good fighting game  The anime intro and endings are superb, having a mini game for every character is also brilliant, and the graphics and music are good to boot. All of the bells and whistles are in place. But the actual gameplay, sigh just redraw darkstalkers and let us play that.
I’ve ranted a bit much and due to sleep deprivation (I actually did work last night), It probably isn’t well organized. I did want to chime in on the shortcuts. 33P = dragon punch is dumb. Makes Sagat low short x 3 into tu/tk so much easier. For the charge moves, the purpose of doing your sonic booms as charge 4, 64P is so you are already holding 4, and working on your next charge, as you fire off your sonic boom. That’s OLD guile tactics right there. I remember Majestros put out an article questioning if that was even true. But so many people have done it for so long, the results are hard to argue with. Also doing charge 4, 61P helps you get to down quicker so you can do a sonic boom then flash kick. Or in the case of Rog, EX dash upper, low jab, low short xx headbutt. And the point of holding down while you enter your throw breaks is so instead of whiffing a throw attempt, you whiff a low short. Usually whiffing a low short is not as catastrophic as whiffing a throw. It can still be baited and punished if you’re smart
Oh, well I never knew about that combo so I guess it helps!
That shit was hilarious. Also, we had awesome pot battles. Who can back dash pot buster the most!
I thought sf4 was american made and made my killian and sirlin made sthd. Sirlin and Killian had like blog fights or some shit a month ago about sirlin’s opinion on 4 and how seth wished he played it longer or something like that. But everything you said about sthd is true. With the championship patch they are adding all that stuff though i think and the tournament online matches have blind picking, with ps3 adding things like smilies that you can show make pop up during the match that the players and spectators can see, which is awesome.
Lol I think Everett and I have had this exact conversation one day.
That’s my opinion on the glitches too, just something else to bait.
Donnie, I figured out why we can’t play. So when I’m done with classes we should do some online play. It’s just a matter of opening ports and stuff.
Christian, I’ve had a change of plans. Games at your place friday night?
Corey, Which one of us has to open the ports? You or me?
Edit: one thing I forgot from my big post is that naming stuff after yourself is dumb. It’s like a nickname. Before the days of the internet, you couldn’t give yourself a nickname. Someone else had to give you a nickname then it could stick. For example, Valle cc’s in a2, I believe other people started calling them by that name since he was the one who showed them off.
Argh, I had a reply but was somehow logged out and now I don’t feel like typing it again.
…not that anyone would listen to my .02 cents anyway.
Maybe either?
Just go to www.portforward.com and look up xbox360 etc… I have mine set up, kinda, but we should both do it just in case.
Yeah we can do games at my place as long as you won’t be getting into town too late.
Has anyone been watching the combo demonstration vids on the KOFXII main site? Terry’s is sooo awesome:
http://game.snkplaymore.co.jp/official/kof-xii/character/terry_cm.html
I think all of those combos work in Garou, except for the crumple thing and the spark stuff. Speaking of Garou, snk my have a history of making games with one broken character but man did they ever get things right with Garou. If KoF XII is Garou good… best fighting game ever.
I think I’ll give KOFXII a fair shot. I usually don’t like SNK’s fighters, but something seems different this time (probably because they actually changed something this time). Problem is, my experience with most of the characters is CVS2 and I only really used Terry and Joe. I’m pretty good with Terry (although the fact that I refuse to use any super that isn’t Busta Wolf probably handicaps me more than I know), but with Joe I pretty much just fill the screen with tornadoes. Either way, I need a third guy.
Fuck I’m bad at picking characters. Especially because every time I pick a character I like, they suck. Why can’t I ever like high tier characters ;_;
Ah, cool. I loved Garou, played it a lot back on the DC (when I wasn’t fighting-game-competent )
I played it again a few months ago with my bro, but used Grant mostly.
Yes, SF4 was made in America, by only Seth Killian. Of course, that’s why he’s the boss of the game, and I was playing it six months before you guys. In Japan.
I can’t type any more sarcastically.
The last time snk put real effort into a fighting game and took the time to reanimate everything they ended up with garou. So things are looking up. Now if they just add kula, vanessa, jennet and gato to the home version I’ll be set
Actually better idea, they should add marco or mars people.
How late is too late and when do you to kick me out?
11pm or so
which question are you answering?
I’ll probably have to kick you out at 11pm. So if you can get in before that we can do games. I’ll probably get home from work 6ish so you can come over anytime after that.
