Video released of Darrien Hunt, "Mugen" cosplayer who was killed

Do we just need a killer cop general now?

This video goes against what the police said about the shooting being justified because he “Became violent and attacked them with the sword” when they tried to take it away.

Death to weeaboo scum, cops a hero

At this point, is anyone really surprised that the video evidence doesn’t line up with what the cops said?

No suspensions, no trial, no nothing once again. Time to perfect my Hokuto Shinken technique for the day this shit all goes to hell.

This video proves nothing. The entire end of the conflict is completely out of range of that final camera in Panda Express. Video doesnt support a basis for saying “What the cop said happened didnt really happen!”. Unless you want to be all CSI and Zoom&Enhance the shit out of it to catch the reflection in his shoes, this video means jack shit.

No it’s not conclusive, but it definitely punched holes in their story. Plus it was an ornamental sword. Plus who with common sense is gonna attack someone wielding guns. Really bruh?

lol with a sword. Get the fuck outta here.

Why was the kid running, though? He looked like he was trying to hide or some shit.

The rules of battle are:

Wow…guess it was too hard to drop the sword and back away from it with your hands raised.

Ummm there have been quite a few people attacking cops with swords in the last 10 years. Cops just bucked down a white 19 year old dude for coming after them with a sword. Happened the same week Brown got capped, but since it wasn’t man-bites-dog news, it got no coverage nationally. Earlier this year, a muslim nutjob attacked 2 cops with an ax. Got one pretty good, too, if that makes you happy.

Would you be shocked if my answer to that was “Probably the same guy who cosplays as an anime character in public for literally no reason.”?

Unless there was an anime convention relatively close at the time of that shooting, I’d say he was likely delusional.

yeah, I’m not familiar with the case, but it would be fucked up if he was going to a comic/anime convention.
if he wasn’t his only real mistake was not putting the sword in a bag. walking around with it is gonna unnerve people. specially already paranoid cops. cuz cops are always paranoid self centered fucks.

edit:
oh wait…he got shot in the back?..ah nah man, lol. that’s not right. you cant shoot someone in the back.

2nd edit:
oh yeah,…I forgot to mention that alotta people think its illegal to carry a real sword.
but some states do allow you to carry cane swords in public. and cane swords are essentially sheathed swords. but I don’t know what the laws are in Utah.

according to police he attacked a cop coming out of a police car but as you can see in the vid there’s a cop walking behind him, so…yeah.

The thing about cane swords? They don’t look like swords. That’s why you can get away with carrying them.

not sure why he ran, not so sharp like the edge of a samurai sword…

Police using unnecessary deadly force against black or brown people? No, ya don’t say.
Even weeaboo not safe.

uh…there’s a pic of him smiling while talking to the two cops? oh-kay.

and when he ran in front of the restaurant camera I can see he isn’t carrying the toy sword.

also this vid. don’t know why but the 3D polygon reenactment makes me lmao.

yeah I know. but even if a cop stops you while you carry one in a state where its legal to carry one it shouldn’t be a cause for alarm.
but there’s still not much of a difference “legally” between a cane sword and a katana.
I know its illegal to have/carry one in these 4 states.AR, CA, MA, and NY. don’t know about Utah.

edit:
WOAAAAAAAAAAAH! internet just blew up!
check out the state of Utah’s law on swords.

wow.
Utah now the new Florida.

There are plenty of problems in this case, but that video doesnt really shed light on anything. No audio, no video of the initial confrontation where he allegedly lunged at them. Just him walking, a cop following, then him running, no audio.

At the very least i guess it gets people talking about the case again, but without video of that incident where he lounged at them, or witnesses, its the cops word vs a dead man, and dead men dont speak. Especially not with 5 shots to the back.

I dont know why he was running though, but i remember some indication that he may be a little slow/socially awkward when we talked about this months ago, and he had like beat the shit out of his sisters boyfriend, but i believe for good reason. When he was killed that day, i remember that he was suppose to be going out job hunting because his mom yelled at him about getting some work. Why he went out dressed like that with a samurai sword to search for jobs is beyond me, but my show where his mind was at if he did do something stupid like lunge at cops with a fake sword.

Unfortunately we still dont have enough evidence of foul play and bad cop work, which sucks, and is why cops need to have cameras on them in this day and age, not only for our protection, but to protect themselves and their own careers if some wild shit goes down, that would be unbelievable without evidence.

A part of me feels that, it sounds dumb that he unsheathed his sword and lunged at them without the cops tasing the fuck out of him, or shooting him right then and there. If he lunged at you with the sword in sheath, if i was those cops, id be like, this dude might be retarded, lets just try to catch him, tase him, and cuff him, no shooting. If he lunged at them with the sword in sheath, and then took off running, and they shot him in the back, by a technicality im sure they would still get off, and no jury would find them guilty, but it would be pretty shitty of them. Shooting someone running away from you is not illegal if certain criterias are met, and your perception of the threat is met. If he didnt do any of that, saw guns drawn, and just instinctually ran out of fear, only to be shot 5 times in the back and once in the leg, then thats a god damn shame.

You cannot see it fully clearly, but im pretty sure he had the sword in his right hand 1:29 if you super slow it down. It seems pretty clear he is holding a weapon in his right hand around that time, and i dont remember any early reports that the weapon was found away from him at the area of getting shot down.

mmmm. its hard to see. maybe he is. maybe he isn’t. I don’t really see it.
yunno what it doesn’t even matter because its legal to carry a sword in public in Utah. so he coulda been carrying a giant Cloud Strife sword for all I care.
he was 100% in his right by Utah law to carry a sword. Fake or real. Did nothing wrong by carrying a sword.
don’t get me wrong. unsensible as fuck…but not in the wrong.
But if he had concealed it in a bag…all of a sudden it would become against Utah law. So I’m not really sure. but maybe he was aware of the law and said to himself, "if I bag it i’ll be breaking the law. So perhaps I shouldn’t hide it."
but he forgot one thing.
He wasn’t snowy white.
And American cops are the most paranoid, nervous, quick to presumption, obnoxious, loud mouthed, needlessly aggressive, arrogant fucks I know. So…

he was 22. and wasn’t wise enough to know better. He assumed cops in this country would behave like any normal person would. He assumed in his naïve mind that cops would act in a calm, cool, and in control of themselves manner. jokes on him.

let me show you how 90% of cops in America act like.
Which is how they are taught to act in every American police academy.
which, of course, is a mistake, which is why you always hear of shit escalating out of control with cops in America.

see how this fictional border cop acts like a nut, gets loud mouthed, doesnt want to listen to whats being said, acts like an uncivilized jackass, and causes a simple Q & A to escalate out of control by his savage barbaric behavior?
Now if the border cop had just acted in a calm cool civilized manner…like the way cops act in many other countries when committing a questioning…none of the nonsense would’ve happened.

a lot of these “police conflicts” that end up on the news could all be avoided if American police acadamies would stop teaching these cadets how to NOT act like. Like a nut. like a loud mouthed, aggressive, unnerving, trigger happy jackass.
like Tackleberry.
like this

this is how you NOT act like when you’re a police officer.

I don’t blame the cops. I blame bad teaching at police academies. what is taught at American police academies needs to be rethought.
it doesn’t work. it has never worked. it will never work. and it only causes confrontations to escalate to avoidable fiascos.

talk, in a nice, polite, cool, calm, collected, non-aggressive, civilized manner like a civilized human being…and you’ll find yourself in less physical confrontations.
this isn’t rocket science.
