The way they did a evolving story in a roguelike is freaking crazy. Games is already nutty levels of good in its early access version. As soon as they do the proper release I’m gonna shill the hell out of it here.

My co-worker that I got into Killer 7, is in to this game. He’s a big fan of their other games as well(Super Giant Games?). He’s more into narrative for his games, and he’s loving this one. I haven’t jumped into a rouge-like yet, but the story is keeping him going.

I wanna give Transistor a shot at some point.

My character in Juan-Der-Boi got turned into a mouse. If I swap to the 8-bit graphics, he’s a midget instead.

I got lost so I watched a video to find out where to go next. The visuals and music are so, so good. Shiiet, even Symphony of the Night copied from this game. In the beginning you start off with your top tier gear, but it gets taken away from you and you are turned into a peasant basically, haha.

This game is dope as fuck. I had to get used to the slipperyness of it at first (sliding + short hitboxes), but had a blast. One of these days I’m going to do playthrough with just the Master System sound + graphics.

You should check out Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, since it’s in the same line of games, but is more recent (2018).

There is a bit of a learning curve for sure, but it wasn’t so bad.

I looked up that Monster Boy game and because it’s pretty niche+low print it costs almost as much as a black label copy of SOTN. There are also only 2 copies on amazon.CA, and the cheapest one is a 130 dollars.

This is why when a niche/low print game releases that I’m interested in, I try hard af to day juan/week juan it because I know if I don’t, then it’ll cost $$$$$$ out the ass not long after.

I have Wonder Boy IV on the Genesis mini that I thought I was going to get to sooner, but still haven’t. It was a Japan Megadrive exclusive until 2011, I think? It was on the XBLA (maybe PS3 PSN?) with the other games in series. Genesis mini is the second release of the game.

The next eshop Sega sale, I’ll pick up Wonder Boy: Monster Land. It’s an arcade title but, M2 added an extra feature where it more console like. This one is more of an arcade platformer though.

A remake-remix of the first game is on steam. It’s an arcade platformer.

Crazy naming conventions aside. Dragon’s Trap (the one you just played) was the start of the action-adventure type, then MW IV, then Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom which is the latest. These are the ones you’d probably be most interested in.
