Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

I meant to ask this before. Whatever happened to that SF fan anime? I always wanted to see your Bison VA work in the full length project but to my knowledge it never released.

No problem, thanks for being receptive and reading my megapost, hah! Just doing my part to let people know more about this so that in the future we all have it better - the performers and the audience.

Unfortunately, Iā€™m not too sure about itā€™s current status. I havenā€™t kept in contact with Otaking lately, but heā€™s a pretty busy guy, last I saw heā€™s still working on it, but also working on other projects in the meantime. Should be a lot of fun when itā€™s finished, fingers crossed for some updates soon!

I donā€™t know why you are so focused on how I chose to consume the gameā€™s story. I would have still disliked the gameā€™s story if I actually played the thing. The only thing that would have changed is that I would seething as I would have paid $60 for it.

Summary

I do think Abby was setup for failure. Sheā€™s unlikable from the jump, her initial plan was to charge head first start into a heavily fortified town. She only finds Joel through dumb luck and kills him. After getting her revenge Abby doesnā€™t change much. Her comrades in the are just as unlikable as she is, engages in an ethnic cleaning campaign against a cult, Abby has no issues killing the people within her group if they go against her and Lev feels more like a prop than character seeing how he only exists to make Abby more sympathetic. Iā€™m honestly at a lost as to what Naughty Dog wanted me to feel about this character. She was a sociopath who didnā€™t always kick the dog I guess.

Hey man, you know far more about this than I do. You are literally directly effected by it. Iā€™d be a fool NOT to listen to you.

Yeah.

Summary

I donā€™t get how they forgot how to build a character to make you like them, as they did that well in the last game. Seems they threw that book out of the window with Abby. Every attempt they make to make you like her comes off (to me) as shallow and manipulative after weā€™ve seen her kill someone who saved her like that.

Jeremy Jahns just shot out an idea during his spoiler review that sounded good.

Summary

Basically said they should have had game where you play as Abby and Ellie. You know sheā€™s after revenge for a her family but you donā€™t know itā€™s against Joel. Near the end of the game, you she learns about Joel and then that would lead into the 3rd game. This would have given audience and Ellie the chance to build a repore with Abby like htey did with Joel and Ellie in the first game.

Yeah I have arcades at home but not interested in these things. I saw the kickstarter a while back. IMO the price is stupid expensive for a bartop. I personally have no use for a bartop and those look like arcade 1upā€™s in that having 2 grown adults playing simultaneously isnā€™t realistic. I will be interested in how the whole game eco system works out though.

EDIT:

And they are charging for emulated games too. Itā€™s nice that it simplifies it for people who donā€™t want to bother which is nice but I know how to do all that myself.

Summary

JUST saw that review (without looking at this post). That would have helped a lot. If we HAD to have Abby and Abby had to kill Joel, we needed some more fleshing out (in a non parlor-trick way) before she did it.

I simply disagree with you that you think knowing the story for months and then watching someone else play what you already know is going to happen pretending like you donā€™t already have a bias to the game has no effect on how you consume it and that it is the same as playing the game without having any idea of what is going to happen. Itā€™s a fundamental concept that I simply disagree with you on. And thereā€™s really no reason to keep discussing it.

You think that watching a game and playing a game results in the same consumption of the whole product. I donā€™t. Thereā€™s really no getting past that.

No one is under the assumption that playing a game and watching it are the same.

But people can know that if the selling point of a game (in TLOU2ā€™s case, story) looks bad to them, it would have been worse had they played it. I donā€™t see how thatā€™s a difficult concept to understand.

I never made this argument. No one made this argument. Where did you get this from?

I saw that, $350 for a Bartop that runs emualtion?
HARD PASS.

That is way too much for a Bartop. For $100 more you can get the Arcade 1 up in Walmart.

What is it with everybody working with Tencent? It honestly doesnā€™t look bad but I donā€™t trust them

Tencent just provides easy money for a lot of companies. Yes, theyā€™re corrupt as shit but most developers donā€™t really care. They want the free money.

Tencent got so much money but they couldnā€™t bother to make new sounds or something. Re-using SF4 sounds just makes it feel all kinds of chinese cheap.

I honestly donā€™t mind the reuse of SF4 sounds, game had great sound design IMO. But I can understand wanting something different tho

I like the 2D sprites Tencent is using too (or what appears to be 2D)

Really lets you know whatā€™s up with SF5, doesnā€™t it?
