So every TV in Best Buy represent the majority of TV’s in American living rooms? Best Buy is the only place selling TVs eh? All those cheap ass 1080p tvs i see walking out the door at Walmart dont count?
I don’t own a TV higher res then 1080p and I bought one last year.
Yea I’m stoked. Gonna try and make some real progress in Gradius 2. It’s been a long time and the last half hour has been stage 1 stomping me haha.
Yea Konami is losing out on free money in that regard. They have a ton of arcade classics that would sell well as collections. Pack in Gradius 1-5 and Gaiden and I would be more then satisfied. It’s a crying shame the PSP is still the only way to Gaiden without importing.

I legit just bout a 4K tv this year. I’d definitely believe most are still using 1080p.

There’s no Walmart where I’m at. Best Buy, PC Richard, B&H. Unless it’s less it’s than 40 itch it won’t be 1080p. Just from what I see.
I imagine there are a lot of 4K TVs on the market, and in households too. Hell, I’ve already bought three of them. I don’t see a problem with using higher resolution if you can still hit performance goals of 60 FPS. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to sacrifice resolution.

ah, ok… well raytracing doesn’t sound like that big a deal from those descriptions. The lighting and other visual details in gaming have already looked damn good for several years now. It still makes me laugh to see what gamers (mostly younger generations, I suspect) are inclined to call “bad” or “ugly” graphics these days…it’s coming off like an art critic who thinks anything that’s even slightly below the quality of the Sistine Chapel painting is automatic “trash” tier.
the Diablo 3 report---- another monster got hit with 7 trillion damage on a critical today.
…which reminds me; some monsters have “Reflect Damage” as a special ability… if that truly worked like one would expect “Reflect damage” to work it would be insane…and actually add another level of challenge there, since the player character in this game is capable of such crazy damage numbers. There’s no way it works like a real “reflect”, otherwise my characters would’ve died to that ability countless times over the years…now it seems to just reflect a fireball back at you if the monster has it active when you attack.
edit—ya want “ugly” graphics? Minecraft and PUBG. fuuuuuuuuuck that stupid-looking horseshit.

It’s interesting hearing all this ray tracing talk now. When I graduated college in 2004 and got my first dev job out of school it was for a commercial CAD application and the rendering engine had a new feature of ray tracing. This wasn’t real time or anything though. And it was a big deal back then.
And now 16 years later we’re getting it on consoles rendering in real time.

I’m such a hypocrite because I see this and agree with it, but then I am one to use all the fancy schmancy home theater sound options that some games have which I realize is a very small minority of gamers who take advantage of it.

This is why i think performance options are important so guys like you who do have all the bells and whistles can take advantage of them while guys like me can tailor it to my currently weaker set up.

I bought a TV last year after my son threw a ball at my fucking Panasonic ST50 plasma, and I don’t even know if it’s 4k. I don’t think it is. My projector is 1080p and I don’t plan on upgrading any time in the next 5+ years. There simply is no need cause 1080p looks fantastic even at 10 feet from about 13 feet away.
I don’t want 4k games at all right now.

I bought a 4k tv (TCL 5 series) last year bc my old set died.
With the exception of Disney Plus/Amazon Prime occasionally, I watch 1080p blurays and play on the “plain” PS4 with 1080p resolution.
Its probably going to be a while before i upgrade my bd player or console to enjoy the 4k nature of media.
I have a 4K LG TV. But I don’t really believe it’s 4K since my parents tv is a 1080p and looks better than mine lol
Even though I don’t live there anymore it’s only 11:25 on the west coast! So my VGM Firday contribution

Finished Max Payne 2, boy what a ride. Saw some comments on how the Mona sections bring the game down but I really enjoyed them and thought they broke up the games pace a lil. I really can’t believe I missed out on these as a teen but I’m so happy to have played them now. They really need a remake/remaster or something because they’re too fucking good.
I looked up the alternate ending and it’s really funny to me how some consider it the true ending when it’s just way too neat and tidy and a bit of fairy tale for me. Does Max deserve happiness? Yes, but the story moves better through his misery and how he deals and eventually overcomes his demons.
