If that is what is causing their depression then you’re laughing at their depression.
I was joking when I made my initial post but it has kind of turned into a slightly serious conversarion. I get where you are coming from but if that is what is causing their depression then you’re laughing at their strife even if you think their strife is silly or whatever. Just because it’s silly to you doesnt mean the impact it’s having on them is silly.
The only thing that I’ll say to defend Chad (sorta) is that streamers are their own boss. If playing a certain game is making you miserable, play a different game, take a couple days off, have a stream where you just shoot the shit with chat, etc.
I totally understand how the pressures, monotony, and toxicity that comes with being a streamers can be a lot and can hurt your mental health, but every streamer has the choice to not play something.
That’s debatable because of your audience watches you for a certain game then changing games could impact your views which means less money. Being your own boss is nice but taking time off is time spent not making money. I’m not saying those aren’t potential options but taking those options could easily be part of why they become depressed. You realize people only care when you play Fortnight or Dark Souls or some shit and don’t have the desire to see you do anything else.
Everyone has their unique struggle. It’s easy to downplay and laugh when it’s not your struggle.
I ain’t laughing or downplaying. Depression and anxiety are a bitch, and can lead to to some real shit. I’m just confused as to how I should treat this situation? If a streamer says,“Hey guys, I’ve been having mental health struggles lately, so I’m going to take a few days off” I’d be supportive. If they were doing it every other week, I would tell them to start looking for something new to do, cause this job is killing them.
edit: before you say it, I know you weren’t directing the laughing and downplaying at me.
double edit: I’m sort of having a fucked up day, so I don’t wanna talk about depression anymore lol. Anyone got a funny game vid of link teabagging master chief or something?
And if I’m an asshole for laughing at some douche bag streamer because he’s sad that he somehow can’t stop playing a videogame he’s sick of, then so be it. I’m an asshole. I accept that, and will continue to laugh.
haha, I happen to know of someone who wanted to do the whole streaming (as a job) thing… but the dude was too lazy apparently…at least as far as I can tell. I’m a lazy bastard myself but I was at a loss for words on that. The guy had all the time in the world (due to a “real job” that didn’t require much of his time…leaving him with plenty of spare time for whatever in life) for it and still didn’t capitalize on the situation.
GEARS 5 tho— still climbing the ranks on that tour of duty… tempted to spend the 100 iron I have (a free unlock; haha I’m not buying something like that as long as I can get it for free in the game…I may use some ms reward points to get some later though) to activate exp boost…it doubles your stars as well as exp.
I’m already looking forward to Operation 5 though, because the plan there is finally the separation of characters from “roles” in horde…so apparently any character can be anything. It will be strange if this applies to Jackbot too; I’m expecting they’ll leave him as-is since he’s such a different character.
Back to the job chat, I am glad that I truly enjoy my job. Sure it’s “work” and sometimes I don’t want to do it, but I genuinely love software development. It is never the same thing every day and building something from scratch is just genuinely awesome. And I get to work with and learn new technology constantly. I’ve always enjoyed building things since I played with Legos as a kid and have always been a “math” person and problem solver by nature, so building software just meshes perfectly with me.
Oh and the pay for it is fantastic as well!
It’s funny trying to explain development to people though, especially non tech people. I usually just say “well you know Facebook?” and they are like “yeah?” and my response is “well I make things like Facebook” since I’m a webapp developer. Also when I had apps on the app store I could just pull the app store up and show them “I made that” and then they understood.
