Video Game General v8.01D : PC Gaming Golden Age, Big Box (Part 1)

So if they were to say, take five bucks off the price tag, it would all be OK?

And by that logic, should people getting exclusive content pay more for their purchase?

In my opinion no, but it’s moot point because they won’t do that. They are going to charge the same $60 and give you less content for it. It would be like us both ordering a large pizza, both paying $10, and I get 8 slices but you only get 6.

Because it’s understood that the first party companies paid for that game’s development and/or made it themselves. With content, they are paying to make the competing version worse.

When has a first party kept it a secret that the exclusivity is timed? I don’t recall that ever happening. That’s deliberate false advertising they can easily be sued for.

It would help to know how much content Spidey is going to actually add to the game for the sake of the argument. But sure, I see your point either way.

To me it’s really not a huge deal. As a consumer we should all make educated purchases, that goes for video game consoles too. I think people that swear by Xbox are kinda in for a rude awakening this Gen, and that’s coming from someone who likes the platform.

Sony shells out the big bucks to make all their exclusives happen. We’ve all known this for years now. I think not expecting Sony to go the extra mile to push for exclusive content on their platform is just kinda silly at this point.

On one hand, I sympathize with Xboners. On the other hand, I really don’t at all. Ya’ll have known what your platform is about for years now. :joy:

I wasn’t going to buy the game anyway. Just gonna sit back and watch the salt.

M$ did this shit with Tetris and other games.

Sony is feeling themselves and been doing the same.

Everybody mad, but can’t be mad equally at all the times these deals are made. Cri moar. :joy:

I’m not mad about content coming to a platform I own. shrug

Sony has been doing this since the early PS3 days and now people are surprised? It’s always been ā€œSony will shell out cash to get exclusives, it’s on Nintendo and MS to either follow suit or not.ā€. And half the time they don’t. (Note, I’m referring to exclusive content in multiplatform games and not exclusive games themselves)

I feel this is short sighted. This crap needs to stop period. Because at some point, it’s going to be MS doing that same thing. Then some of the people that didn’t a give a fuck now will be crying. Exclusivity literally has no effect on me. Hasn’t my entire adult life because I own all consoles. I’m still going call this shit out because not everyone can own every platform. Some people can only afford one.

And then I’ll buy an Xbox like I have done my whole life. It’s not short sighted it’s me prioritizing the the things I feel are worth getting upset over. This isn’t one of them, for me. You’re welcome to, that’s your prerogative just as it’s mine to mostly not care.

Yea some people can only afford 1 platform, but that’s life, you don’t always get everything you want. Ask non-Nintendo system owning Bayonetta fans shrug

I still love this cause you just have to bring up the fact no other publisher or console developer saw value in the series but Nintendo. Now it may as well be an exclusive/first party IP.

Calling out bullshit and being upset aren’t mutually exclusive.

Apples to Oranges. Bayonetta 2 was 360/PS3 game that got cancelled by Sega. Platinum pitched it to MS, they declined. They pitched it to Sony, they declined. While discussing the Wonderful 101 with Nintendo they brought up the topic as a hail mary, and to their surprise Nintendo picked up the development tab. Bayonetta would be a dead franchise otherwise.

TLDR: Resurrecting a dead project and paying to keep in game content off of certain platforms isn’t the same thing.

Didn’t say they where.

I don’t agree. It’s paid for content.

That’s fine. I disagree with you. Locking out content from a game that is actually releasing and funding a project the was cancelled (i.e. no longer releasing) isn’t the same thing in my opinion. If this was Tomb Raider 2 for Sega Saturn situation, I’d agree with you wholeheartedly but it isn’t.

Yea which is fine. I was just making the statement it doesn’t bother me, I own the platform. It’s not different to me because exclusive content is exclusive, whole game or not. I have to buy the shit to play it either way so same boat for me. Just how I feel about it.

It is indeed a shitty situation especially given it is being presented as not even a timed exclusive deal but straight up exclusive. If this was a Spidey skin on another character folk would have issues but love with it. But a whole character, with moves, costumes, etc and not even a Soul Calibur 2 situation where PC/Xbox gets exclusive character (s) as well is a power flex for a major multi platform game.

When Nintendo has done similar they usually have their own characters and in terms of multi platform the Nintendo versions are usually graphically the weakest. This situation really does seem like they are using their connection to gain a massive advantage out the gate for this game which only recently has started to look decent.

But again…this is nothing new. Sony has been doing this for over 10 years. It just went away a bit as Sony just put that money towards getting entire games and developer deals as outright exclusives rather than settling for a character or two.

I mean we just watched Sony try to yoink Peter from the fucking MCU. They ain’t gonna fucking share lol.

If it’s this coming gen, then you just buy the game on PC seeing as they’ve dropped the whole exclusive thing.

Soul Calibur had exclusive content, MK9, SFxT etc.

Bet there are hella other games with the same thing. You wanna waste your money on Ms consoles then that’s your prerogative. Sony playing to win you over.
