You already said you were heading out. Nigga hit the eject button on the conversation but forgot a parachute. Not even gonna dignify you with a response past this bro.
Good, as you yet to say anything of value all day.
I am also going to hold you to your word to. So go bounce.
Because games have actions and consequences.
Thereās no consequence to me mistiming turning a page, there is one for mistiming a jump.
Iām playing Soul Calibur 3 story mode, get to the clocktower section of it. In it thereās an encounter where a character throws a giant cog at the player.
Under your point of view and what youāre expounding on, a regular cut scene would be fine. Shows my character get attacked then it goes into the fight.
The QTE tells the same story but adds a wrinkle: I could get hit or dodge the attack. If I get hit, I start the fight with less health. Dodge and I go in with a full lifebar.
Only one of those made me play out part of the story. Thatās what QTEs brought to gaming. Instead of having a section thaf I can skip, I have one that requires me to pay attention because there are some stakes to it.
Each way the story of my character being attacked was told, only one of them wouldāve taken advantage of the situation taking place in a game.
I think we just have a fundamental disagreement on what makes for fun game design then. In my opinion, more often than not, a QTE is just a cheap way to force interaction during a plot point. I donāt need to mash A on a rusty door to get it to open, just show my character doing it and get on with the game. I donāt need failure conditions for something that is purely trying to advance the plot.
Like, this was one of my few issues with Last of Us 2. You wouldnāt believe how many times the game comes to a complete fucking hault to make you mash X on a piece of debris just to move it out of the way. In what way is this satisfying? At least when Iām in a cutscene the story is showing me something interesting and it all happens in engine.
Adding a win or lose condition doesnāt suddenly make it engaging or fun. Not to me at least. Those QTEās in SC3 have always been hella dumb to me too. Let me skip the cutscenes altogether and fight these dudes. Thereās nothing engaging or fun about pressing a random button and watching your character roll out of the way. The QTE is still sandwiched between 20 seconds of cutscenes before and after, so youāre still not really avoiding the problem you have with games slowing down to tell its story. Itās a band aid solution to your problem if anything.
Thatās why I make the comparison between it and pressing a button to advance dialog. Regardless of the win/fail conditions attatched, itās the same level of interaction. Except at least when Iām sifting through dialog that shit can be interesting or even relevant to gameplay mechanics. Oh yeah, and I can ignore it entirely and mash my way through lol.
The QTE is a shorthand way to make you feel like youāre playing a cutscene. They almost never actually incorporate the gameās mechanics and usually involve you WATCHING your character do something that depends on maybe 2 or 3 button presses.
Iām not trying to condemn you for being ok with them, I just think itās strange you consider that such a great convention in game design but shy away from more calculated and controlled methods of conveying a story.
So the Avengers game is coming out on PC too?
Looks like Ghost of Tsushima may be my last PS4 purchase for the year unless Milesās game is available for both PS4 & PS5.
Avengers will be on PC. I call dibs on Hulk
Ho azz muthaf@#ā¦
Dibs on Thor!!
OK Iām sold on Avengers, that co-op play looks nice
So I just finished watching the War Table and the game is looking muuuuuuch better. Looks like the might have to fix the framerate on the game here and there but they got time for polish. Looks like they fixed the hit impact and gave them the oomph they needed. I might have to jump into this Beta to try it out.
YES, I 2nd this

It adds a pretty good chunk of things to do. Iād say itās worth it. To give you an idea, my first playthrough of P5 ran about 95 hours. My first playthrough of Royal went for 130 hours.
Damn, she straight up turned into Juri in the second panel. SFxT was a mistake. She picked up bad habits.
Tencent got so much money they said just give this char out for free.
Yeah, this is just marketing for their shitty mobile games.
Nice
Soooā¦ if Ghost of Tsushima is so greatā¦ why are people still hating Assassinās Creed? GoT is basically Assassinās Creed with Kurosawa aestethics.
Because Assassins creed is no longer about assassins.
Shits wack and theyāre too cowardly to make new IPs. Just smack assassins creed on it so guppies keep eating it up.
Also itās beautiful, not a bug ridden mess and combat shits all over AC.
