If its in house market research, someone will be out of a job, probably a whole department.
If its someone they paid to do this, an outside-the-company market research firm, and they just gave them these insane numbers and ideas nobody will sign off on that lit their eyes up into dollar signs like the “1 billion served” estimates, I hope they’re laughing all the way to the bank. Or maybe they weren’t paid a whole lot and said fuck it and gave them bad information all around!
Its not like Sony and PS3 reveals didn’t have problems and bad press from other select quotes that weren’t RIDDDDGE RACER. “Its a computer (so its worth $599)” or “You should work harder for your economy(Japan) and buy one, it doesn’t cost too much” but who knows if backtracking without any major changes will save this thing.
But I don’t think those features will sway most parents. They already pay for a cable/satellite service. Why do they need another TV box? Skype? They already have a computer. Besides, most parents have no intention of using whatever console they buy their kids. They use it as $400 baby sitter and leave it at that. The whole reason why we have 8 year olds playing GTA and their parents blame the industry for their own ignorance
Geoff Keighley had some sources that said Sony had some sort of Used Game DRM in store on one of their Bonus Round talks on GT. Then an anon source pops up on Gaf and says that Sony saw the amount of backlash that MS has been receiving is making them question themselves but as of now he confirmed that they have some sort of plan. Of course as with any anon source you take the knowledge with a grain of salt but then we have all the rumors of MS’s conference leading up to the aftermath. If you want to preempt Sony and let them know ahead of time how you’d feel if this came to fruition (as if current backlash was enough…) then people have started Twitter topics on it voicing concerns to Sony staff.
Seriously though it’d be unbelieveably dumb on Sony’s part to see all that money on the table that they could have just by saying ‘no we don’t have any anti consumer BS in our system’. But of course most of us thought any company wouldn’t be trying it at in the first place…
Welp, and here was me thinking I was going to skip Nintendo’s offering this gen, if Sony goes through with something similar to what MS is doing it’ll be all a consumer who does mind getting fucked in the ass has left for this gen. (Barring handhelds of course)
That would be pretty funny if Nintendo soars to a strong 1st place in this new era mostly because the big 2 competitors made some unbelievably stupid mistakes.
The new era console war is going to be such a great show. Oh yeah and speaking of Nintendo— ah, I see that Wonderful 101 finally has a release date, apparently… this coming September. Once that and Bayonetta 2 are out, Nintendo will finally see my money once again.
What I can see happening is Sony saying we’re going to let the publishers decide if their games will require always online or not. Now, given the option is there any reason why companies like EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Activision, etc would not choose always online on PS4 if they’re already doing it on Xbox?
Maybe Sony lets us play offline with their games. Okay, great. Everyone can go and trade in their copies of Heavy Rain 2 or pay $10 dollars for used copies of Uncharted 4 but I wouldn’t be surprised if the third parties restricted us. Especially a company like EA. If we aren’t allowed to trade in Madden on Xbox One, they ain’t letting us trade in the PS4 copies either.
Phil Spencer: Secondary market is important the ecosystem Xbone will support
Why do I get the feeling that there’s some sort of curveball coming? They’ll probably ‘clarify’ at E3 going ‘It plays used games guys…you just gotta pay a fee! That’s it! That’s all! shit eating grin’
Jimquisition When the Starscreams kill Used Games
Ya know…I’ve come to really like Jim. I can’t help but agree 100% with everything he said in this. The comparison to Starscream was funny.
Battlefield 4 China Rising Expansion announced…comes with preorder
It’s a depressing statement on the industry though. I remember back in the old gen consoles, the winner was decided by who had the best features…now it’s decided by who fucks up the least. Although another possibility is that if Sony does fuck up it could make PC gaming suddenly seem more appealing to the neglected gamers too.
i really hope sony finds some way to make ps3 games work on ps4.i really missed out on great games (uncharted series god of war killzone MGS4 and others)for going xbox360.
They’ve already confirmed PS1-3 available via PSN for the PS4. This is good for people like you who may have missed out but sucks for others who already own the game. I understand why they are doing away with backwards compatibility via disk. It just makes console manufacturing more expensive for both Sony and the consumer. The problem is they could easily allow our digital titles to transfer over for free but Sony isn’t too much different than MS. PS3 owners need to hold on to their consoles and find another way to rack up funds for next gen consoles.
TBH, i don’t see a problem with not having backwards compatibility, i always keep alll my consoles anyway.
I still have my atari 2600 and my pong for example :3
The PS4 seems to have the most potential out of the three.
And I doubt that it will have used game DRM. WiiU and Xbox One are both less appealing to developers so I don’t know why they would leave PS4 just because Sony did nothing to stop used games.
Backwards compatibility is never the meat of any console so the lack of it shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll happily play Infamous: Second Son for a few hours and switch to PS3 to play Gran Turismo 6 but that’s just me I guess.
