Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

A fellow SH fan!! :metal: I was checking out the OST’s because someone at Squid Board purchase the OST’s and did some new, 2020, HQ rips (MP3’s & Flac) of Shadow Hearts. And a better quality rip of Koudelka OST. Man, the stuff you can find there. Some guy remastered the GBA Castlevania OST’s and the reviews have been pretty positive. Also official remastered Streets of Rage OST’s. Let me know if you are interested in checking out the Shadow Hearts music, I’ll PM you.

And I don’t know if you knew, there was a special edition of Shadow Hearts 2 in Japan with an extra CD where you played as the bad guys. Some guys translated the text and put it in the game so non-Japanese fans can check out this piece we missed on the West

The battle theme? Oh, it’s been a while, was it Brain Hopper?

Well, I am checking out ebay and damn, from $50 and above. I was lucky to get a mint copy for less than $25, I think.
If you can get the first one, go for it. Keep in mind it the game was supposed to be released on the last years of PS1, but they decided to release it on PS2. Regardless, even if it might look a little rough around the edges the game has a lot of atmosphere and style.
If you can’t get the game, I guess the next best thing would be to watch a ā€œno battle runā€ on youtube

And you may want to watch a short Koudelka run on youtube. Story takes place before SH, and many themes and some characters from Koudelka are touched later on in SH. So you know where this all comes from. It’s pretty cool and the voice acting was great for the time.

Shadow Hearts looks decent. If they remastered it, I would consider giving it a try

Shadow Hearts was doomed to obscurity since despite how awesome and unique it was…it just got no promotion and the 1st game dropped around the same time as FF10…and with last gen looking graphics by comparison. I still have Covenant on my shelf.

yea brain hopper was a wtf for me first time i heard it. also you don’t have have to go this route but if anyone’s interested you could always play shadow hearts 1 on pcx2 it works fine just setup the game to switch to software mode during cutscenes or enjoy your seizure.

i think the franchise rights are caught up in some bullshit so prob never gonna happen unless sony or someone steps in.

I never played the first game and I didn’t have an issue following the story of the second game. It does a good job with accessibility. The game will tell you what happened in the first game when those events become relevant.

3 is more of a side story then a proper sequel.

The 1st definitely had great creepy locations, and eerie enemy designs. Also was unique for the time setting it took place in. Highly underrated series overall.

Naw I’ll find the first one. Koudelka is a pretty different game so I don’t mind watching that one, by I’d like to play the first one before the second. Patience wins the day. I have plenty of other stuff to play in the mean time.

What little I played of the second I really liked so I wanna see where it begins. Going backwards can make the older game harder to play to since it’s generally missing stuff from the sequels.

I’ve always said if shadow hearts had survived the ps2 jrpg wars it would be in a similar position to persona right now.

speaking of the ps2 jrpg wars i still expect a wild arms reboot one of these days tho

I have no luck betting but at the time I choose:

Shadow Hearts over other JRPGs of the era
Advance Wars over Fire Emblem
Trauma Center over Phoenix Wright

all three will be what I love…but will (if never revived) die into obscurity while the others in their genre flourish.

Sony should take another crack at Legend of Dragoon. Game was OK, just needed some things to make it truly legendary

legend of dragoon just needs combo routes or just steal legaia 2’s shit. but i feel like they would just try to rip off ff7r some kind of way.

FF7R’s battle system would be a great choice to ripoff honestly.

yea but it would lose some of its identity its like if square remade xenogears and changed the battle system to something like streets of rage it could work but the battle system is one of its unique parts and its fun.

Real time combat, but precise timing required for maximum damage and combos. That could workšŸ¤”

ok i could see that working and i guess no matter what they do shana need a complete rework.

Well I mean it wouldn’t end up being the same even if they did take heavy inspiration from 7R

true enough! as long as we keep the soundtrack sounding good except for the final boss they can change that shit.
