Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

It literally just a tech demo giving an idea of what the games can look like. So I don’t see how you can have this blanketed of an opinion on something that isn’t going to be in full swing for another year and a half

So… Yeah. Remember Mugen? I’ve been dabbling again.

Quick video of what I’ve put together so far. This is easily my favorite screenpack. It makes everything look official and stylish, and offers pretty much limitless slots. It’s crazy to see this UI from almost ten years ago.

Right now I’m just gonna use about 340 slots to keep it from looking OVERLY cluttered. There’s 39 characters on each horizontal row, and each row has a category. So far I got:

Marvel
Street Fighter
Capcom
DBZ

In the video I use what’s probably one of the coolest characters I’ve ever found for Mugen. It’s a Goku sprite from that fan made Extreme Butoden fighting game (which is awesome btw), but he has every form. Yes, literally every form including mastered and un-mastered UI Goku. The amount of work that must have went into this sprite is exhausting to think about. Most sprites average around maybe like, 5 megabytes in size? Or less? Meanwhile this Goku was 120MB. Lmfao.

I always hear people in the DBFZ community complain about how many Gokus there are in the game. I’ve heard so many people say that all his different forms need to be in one character, and seeing that concept in action finally I’m now 100% certain that that’s a stupid fucking idea and would be INSANELY broken in any real fighting game. Even when you could go all the way to SSJ4 in Budokai 3 it was hilariously OP compared to characters who couldn’t transform.

Anyway, yeah, I know people tend to think Mugen is nothing but bad looking sprites and broken bullshit, but I’ve always had a blast digging through the internet for rare or eccentric sprites and seeing how they work in engine. There’s an interesting history of people re-purposing these sprites into their own little edits, or people trying to just accurately capture how the sprite functions in their native game.

There’s also something weirdly theaurpeutic about the whole process of adding stuff to Mugen, too. Hours just start to pass me by as I put a show on in the background or something and start messing with configuration text files, lines of code, dumping zip files into their proper folders, sifting through lines to fix one minor detail here and another minor detail there to make the game perfectly yours.

I just really enjoy Mugen guys. It’s always been a fascinating free resource to me. :slightly_smiling_face:

It was the last final stretch. I know the tech demo is going to go for familiar ground gameplay wise, since it’s their to show off the possible tech.

Rock Howard and the Rock’s catch phrase have been out of the limelight for years easy to forget.

I straight up forgot about how Big Bear/Raiden and Vader, hell SNK got another obscure homage of a legendary wrestler I just remembered that could be used.

So the battle system for Future Connect is just an ARPG Pikmin? Sure, I’m down.

Also them saying that Future Connect is “only” about 20 hours made me laugh. Yes, it’s such a downer that new content added to a game that’s a decade old is “only” 20 hours. Which is longer than most AAA titles these days.

Im watching all the graphical changes and QOL changes video now and man, Monolith and Nintendo knocked it out of the park on this. I haven’t played XBC since when it first came out for the Wii. I have the 3DS port but I’ve never played it. So with the definitive edition I’m basically going in blind. So I’m stoked

I remember when he did this, lots and I mean lots on hard work and prep went into that mod.
I think going with Wave Bird Shells was the right call.

I finally got unemployment cash it it an insane amount! I was able to take care of bills and have plenty left over! So I went ahead and preordered Streers of Rage 4 on the Switch and bought Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age for Switch off Amazon.

Whoa, Unreal 5 looks like a cool adventure game. I’ll probably play that.

DANG! And then she turns into Spider-Man. That game looks sick!

yeah those visuals on the tech demo were RIDICULOUS. …it’s quite a shame that apparently isn’t an actual game.

I keep imagining the possibilities…imagine if we were in Earth-2 where Bethesda actually produces amazing and reliable great games…and they made a new Elder Scrolls with visuals like THAT. * Banderas.gif.

…or a new Vampyr game with that level of graphic detail… or a new Diablo with that level of graphics…say it’s a few years later and Bayonetta 4 shows up looking like that… yeah, I’d instantly bust a nut off and pass out.

EDIT—and y’know the funny thing to me at least— years after that, the latest incredibly spoiled new generation of young gamers will look at graphics like that thinking “man, those visuals aren’t that impressive… so much for Next-Gen PS6.” Honestly, we’re well past the point of games having any excuse for being ugly at this point. To me, things have been looking pretty damn good ever since the Dreamcast, actually. Things that are ugly are no longer ugly due to technological limitations.

So does anybody want to talk about the game called POTATO?

Just now catching up and seeing that new MK Aftermath trailer. NRS is really blowing shit out of the park when it comes to presentation and extras. Just the come up from MKX to now is a little shaking.

Praise the hentai patheon.
Now lets just hope we dont get stealth censorships because some idiots feel is needed.

On another note.
With Iroha finally on Samsho, i have my 2 mains Mina and her and that makes me happy, both feel great in the game (and look great as well )
