I can’t get hyped for Tony Hawk. Activision has fucked up that franchise too many times and I’m done with them milking nostalgia to try to sell it.
Meh. I think it’d be pretty hard to fuck up Remasters of the first two Tony Hawk games. 5 was pretty ass, but making an attempt at a brand new game is a lot different than working with an established title that people already love and adore. I can’t imagine the performance being an issue, but who knows, I’ve seen dumber fuck ups.
I think my biggest worry is still the soundtrack. I can’t imagine they’ll be getting the entire list of tracks back, so it’s really just a question of whether or not they can replace it with something that at least TRIES to match the godlike levels of the old OST.
I get where you’re coming from but those 2 games are an absolute triumph of game design imo.
They are like ST or 3S. Kinda timeless. I might wait until the price drops a little to be honest but i will play the shit out of those games. I haven’t played since their original release though.
But they did fuck up remasters of the first two Tony Hawk games with Tony Hawk HD. My confidence levels are at zero for this game.
What was wrong with those Remasters? Genuinely wondering, as I didn’t even know those existed.
My little girl would love that plush!
MY WALLET IS READY!!!
It was missing a couple of things missing from the original games. Like only seven levels from 1&2 were present, park creator and split screen are gone and half the soundtrack was missing.
Yeah that would kinda suck.
I personally never noticed so I can’t say this in confidence but apparently they had fucked with the physics engine too which fucked up a lot combo timings.
Quite a few runners of the game noted that the physics are indeed fucked with.
Damn. Did Activision outsource the port job to another studio? That would make more sense. Those are some pretty big Tony Hawk staples to fuck up.
@Martian Yes. They outsourced it to Robomondo who also made the garbage Tony hawk peripheral games as well as THPS5.
1+2 remake is being made in-house by Acclaim via Vicarious Visions. Vicarious were the technical wizards who brought the original THPS games to handhelds back in the day. They also made the Jedi Knight titles and Crash Nitro Kart
THPS 1 and 2 where fuckin’ great ass games. Graphics were dope, controls were super tight, music was dope and it had all kinda other great shit. I remember my buddy got the demo of THPS outta some magazine. We played that shit for weeks/months till the game came out. Busting’ out score breakin’ grinds on the school level.
THPS2 was much the same. Better lookin’, better controls and it introduced the manual. No other THPS felt as great as the first 2 to me.
I actually had a really hard time when THPS games went from 30fps (or less) to 60fps. shit made me dizzy kinda and I had a real hard time hitting grinds and shit.
Rodney Mullen ftw!
They were also the guys behind the recent Crash remakes.
This is all stuff I like to hear.
If it’s the same guys that made the Crash remakes, then my confidence in these two games being good has skyrocketed because they did a fantastic job with Crash. I’m really, really curious how they’ll handle the soundtrack tho. It’s one of the defining features of those games. It’d be difficult to capture the same feel with an alternative soundtrack, especially if it’s all more modern tracks.
I thought Toys by Bob did the crash collection? Or was that the Spyro collection?
Honestly it just depends on how many are tracks are going to be missing. If it’s 1-2 from each game I feel thats “forgivable” because it’s likely something completely out of their control no matter how much they try.
But if it’s over half the catalog from both games like the Tony Hawk HD was than yeah, it’s going to be a bad look. For the longest time Tony Hawk’s OST’s were always the crown of the games cause it was a perfect blend of skater culture and arcade sports game vibe.
Mullen is a skate boarding god. He’s my favorite street skater and probably favorite skater over all. I use to have all his trick demo VHS tapes. Even the hand cam ones when he and tony went to Japan.
Yeah lets keep on appealing to that lower denominator
Seriously, there only fo far as you can go. And From PS3/XboX to PS4/Xbone and from PS4/Xbone to Xbox Sex and PS5 there differences haven’t been that huge
Last time we seen a drastic change in graphical fidelity was going from the SNES/Genesis and 16 bit over to the 32/64bit consoles.
And Its Ubishit were talking about, with poorly made unoptimize code that makes Bethesda games look good in comparison. If they can’t keep 120 fps at 4k with the next gen then why try at all?
If I see one PS5 or Xbox Sex game run at 30 FPS at a odd nonstandard resolution, I going to write that fucking Developer/Publisher off as being total garbage.
It was.
Question is are they using the original sound track?
If not, then Hard pass.
As already discussed and already covered by gaming media almost the entirety of both sound tracks will be coming back to their respective game. They haven’t mentioned what tracks or how many will be omitted from the games.
Just based of personal knowledge of most the bands who were part of the OST’s I can kind of make an educated guess but I can’t be 100% so I’m just not going to make claims
Only time I played a Tony Hawk game was from a Dreamcast demo disc…
