If people want fanfictiony nonsense, let them have it. Aeris dying is a massive plot point though. You’d have to rewrite the second half of the game completely just to save her.
The best part of that essay is that opinions like it are why you cant take gaming seriously as a story telling medium. Asking that people to change everything around so they dont feel bad is just essentially demanding they limit the range of emotions expressed in the story.
Its pretty pathetic that Frozen gave it to the people rawer than dude wants it in a video game.
Nah, people can hand wave away Disney fucking up the creators vision. They can’t do that with things Lucas does. Coincidentally, the original scenario writer is responsible for the Remake scenario. So you can’t say “it’s just fan fiction” without looking silly. The original guy is writing remake. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s the original writers vision. I remember when the Prequels were out and people were bitching about them. I said the same thing then as I’ll say now. “You don’t have to like it, but it’s from the original creator so you have to deal with it.”
As for the Aerith situation, they can do whatever they like. I doubt they will spare her, at least here. But if they don’t someone else is going to bite the bullet. Truthfully, I think people that want her to live will have to wait for whatever comes from Zack’s timeline. In other words around 2055
Changing Aeris’s death would be nonsensical. There’s zero reason to do it other than silly wish fulfillment.
Yes you can. There are literally scholars whose research is to find the most authentic version of a text. Authors tend to go through phases in life and add random shit to books. This was a lot more common in the late 1800s where they could double dip on a book by adding more content to it.
Mary Shelley is notable for this since she got a bit do god in and changed things around later on. There are…two to three versions of Frankenstein. Been a minute but there you. Even “original writers” can fuck up their own things.
It would be nonsensical if it wasn’t explained and didn’t fit with the story yeah. It wouldn’t be nonsensical if the story went in a different direction and remained well written.
I mean, even in the remake, they actually made it MORE emotional by fleshing out characters even more, so it’s not like they haven’t shown they’re able to have good or even better writing.
Aerith dying isn’t a requirement for the writing to be good. It’s just a requirement for the original story. If the subsequent parts are written such that it still makes sense for her to due then yeah sure, they shouldn’t shy away. If it develops differently then they should just write it differently
Which has zero to do with my point. If a creator changes something, you have all the right in the world disagree with change but ultimately what they say goes. If someone was fan a character I’ve written and I take them in a direction they don’t like. They can hate it, they can love it, they can bitch about it, or they can praise it but ultimately it’s my character. So If I changed something and they don’t like it borrowing your own words “They can kick rocks.”
@Pertho A original creator can’t make fan fiction. It’s their idea, they can do whatever they want with it. Anyone saying differently is just being, for lack of a more delicate term, stupid.
Edit: My SFV concepts of existing characters are fan fiction. I’m taking someone else character and putting my spin on it. I’m a fan and I composed a my own fiction for someone else’s property. That’s why it’s called “fan fiction.”
Still not sure why anyone is responding to a dude who didn’t play the game and went on a really stupid tirade about why its not the kind of game for him to begin with.
Also we don’t know where the story will go, but if I were a bettin’ man, I’d say the remake will go full kingdom hearts with more emotion, better dialogue and the story will be just as shitty.
Series wise, Kingdom Hearts pulls a Disney and repackage what you already experienced and tries to resell it to you multiple times.
When I use Lucas, I look at things like what happens when you rewrite a scene or two with what seems like a small edit that affect a persons character based around who shot first.
edit - I see what Pertho said but those peeps didn’t have fanboys like Star Wars or social media to harass them like we do today. Writers CAN revise what they want…but should they?
