Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

just got through with a pretty major session of Modern Warfare campaign … gonna throw where I’m at below in spoilers. I think I’m close to the end or right at it.

So, I’m in the Hometown mission, after the male freedom fighter used chemical weapons to kill the Russians who were advancing on him, his sister, his group, and one of the protagonists. These two (as little kids) watched their father get murked by a Russian soldier, then they do the same to the soldier, and escape. I’m at the point where the sister is trying to distract the soldiers and get a revolver … by calling her brother over and over again on one of them old ass cell phones. I had to stop because I was laughing so hard over the phone calls.

Stadia peeps sating Stadia will be able to do features consoles can’t

Small excerpt

For Google Stadia, Raymond says she sees two primary paths to creating games impossible on other platforms. The first one is at the heart of the Stadia sales pitch; with all of the number-crunching being done in the cloud, Google’s games can be designed around the limits of its own hardware rather than those of the users’ devices.

“There are a lot of things that being cloud native enables that you’re just not going to be able to see on other platforms, and I think that’s the job of first-party, to really show that off and let people imagine what those things are.”

Microsoft tried to sell people on cloud processing when the Xbone launched to make up for the hardware’s short comings. What she’s selling has been tried on consoles. Fuck outta here.

Except Sony been doing this for a while with Playstation Now.

they also made it a feature of Crackdown 3. They used Microsoft Azure for offloading the physics calculation for Multiplayer and I also believe Singleplayer.

Stadia does what Nintendon’t

Cloud computing for a mobile device that needs Wifi? That is fucking stupid. Even Google not tacking Stradia yet with mobile devices. All you need is one too many people running torrents or Netflix at the Starbucks or McDonald’s to ruin everyone else’s internet connection.

Is COD campaign the typical 4-5 hour bullshit they usually have? I haven’t played one in like 6 years but I was thinking about renting it from Redbox for 2-3 days just to give it a try and see what it is like.

I’m almost done with it, and I’ve spent a little over 6 hours on it.

Expect sweaty nerds to have words about several female characters in the campaign. Capt Price gives no fuck. So far it’s okay…

On normal difficulty? That is probably what I’d do it on. Not going to deal with anything harder than that cause COD AI is a joke. At least it was last time I played it. “Harder” just meant you have less health, enemies have more health, and enemies have better accuracy.

yeah. I’m playing on Normal difficulty as well, and haven’t really had to knock the difficulty down at all.

I’ve been reading articles and watching videos from EGX and coverage of Marvel’s Avengers. It’s sounding really promising.

They have a year of content planned. Which includes characters, skins and missions. Depending on sales and feedback they will add even more. They’re hoping for at least 2 years post-release content

All online content will be playable offline. (Huge bonus for me.)
Character specific side missions open up more main missions and vice versa. Also not every character specific side mission will unlock said character content.

All DLC Characters and Missions will be absolutely free. As will most skins. The only premium DLC there will be is brand new skins for the characters. They elaborate on “brand new skins” as working with Artists all around the world to create unique costumes never seem before for the characters featured in the game

One videos I watched the presenter had a slip of the tongue and mentioned Scarlett Witch will be a DLC character. I don’t know the validity of that though. He corrected himself and said he meant Black Widow. So who knows. I could easily see the twins in the game though. .

Every character will have multiple skill trees. You will never be able to max out every skill tree. You will have to decide early on how you want to play x character. IE you can make Hulk a tank or make Hulk AOE attack based, or make Thor more arial combat based than ground based or you can make Iron Man range attacked based or support based…etc.

Pretty much every video I watched and every article I read said what they got to see of the story is that it’s extremely dark.

There’s a lot more but those are what stuck out the most.

To anyone here playing The Outer Worlds, whose electricity did you cut and why? I’m having trouble deciding.
I see which way the game wants me to go but it provided me just enough info to make me feel it’s all too grey to be confident. I’ve talked about it with two coworkers; they picked differently. The one who cut Edgewater said he hates capitalism and the one who cut Botanical Plant said he didn’t want to lose out on Edgewater’s vendors…
Reminds me of this.

More likely Beth would try to settle out of court, maybe offer the guy some cash for his domain.

Credits are rolling for me on Modern Warfare. Two sittings and about 7 hours on Normal. Gonna drop a big ol’ spoiler in the comments regarding the last cinematic of the game (tagged spoiler of course).

Laswell and Price meet in a cafe, and they have a discussion; which leads to the creation of Task Force 141. I legit cheered when he started talking about Soap, and he had the files for the initial crew of 141 in his possession.

Of course, we all know that there’s gonna be Call of Duty games until the end of time. The spoiler sets up something very nice, presuming they continue with the reboot of Modern Warfare in the next IW game.

edit: the next to last mission in the very beginning gave me fucking goosebumps, it was so similar to the original sniping mission in the old school MW.

Ubisoft confirms that Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a huge bomb.

They need to stop focusing on annual titles and make shit that people want.

More indie-Ish titles like Child of Light, more amazing Platformers like Rayman, more fun crossover style games like Kingdom Battle.

don’t attach toys to life model which is one of the most hated gaming trends in recent memories to a game that had tons of potential like Starlink. You’re basically asking it to fail.

Don’t make the same game over and over But with a new coat of paint like ass creed, Clancy and arguably Far Cry.

When fans dislike a so much about a franchise don’t double down and make more of it like they are with Watchdogs.

Listen to your fucking fan base.

Yeah, too bad despite having the same actor Vergil is nothing like Eric Meyers…well other than being a prick. But in fairness he played Vergil just this year and it’s been nearly 2 decades since he had to play Eric and he certainly didn’t do it as a VA so I can see how his wires got corssed.
