Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

hahaha, enjoy that juicy ban, ya Gears match-quitters
https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/10/12/gears-5-player-banned-for-nearly-2-years/
 Nope I don’t feel even the slightest bit sorry for them, especially the person they made an example of… apparently quit 18 out of the past 21 matches he played… “welcome to Ban-world, buddy.” this is even funnier the more I think about it—I bet that dude didn’t expect to be outed quite like that with that exact stats on his quitting for all to see.

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad port (not saying you said that.)

Except Onlive was years ago and the tech for this has already improved since then. The stream running like shit would be dependent on your connection, a lot of the processing power will likely be handled server side so having to worry about speccing out a PC won’t even be a thing.

streaming prob is the future just not the immediate future. also don’t worry so much about loosing access to any of your games in the internet age. i doubt there’s anything released since the ps3 era you couldn’t get your hands on if your really wanted it. it might be through not so legal means but you can get that shit.

had something to do the screen stuttering. These games have been around since the old Nintendo, theres no reason why they should have any problems on the switch, they were just lazily ported over.

And everywhere i go, everyone seems to have a very favorable opinion too.

Problem is that once there is a little change in legislation, an owner of an ip changes or something like that you can say goodby to what you purchased.

Just an example.
The Star Wars DLC chars for SC4 are gone, what is worst is that they removed them without telling anyone.
They are not only gone from the PSN and XLStore, they are also gone from the players download lists.
So it doesnt matter that you bought them.
You cant download them again.

I’m a stickler for endgame stuff and get extremely bored with things that are too easy. Those are the only gripes I’m hearing.

im wondering how bad the lag is going to be for overwatch on switch, since Mario makers lag is just really bad, and paladins also had problems with lag. And also since its on wifi, doesn’t seem to help. And kids taking their switch to places that have free wifi doesn’t help also.

You answered your question.
It will be terrible, lol

And the music industry been dropping sales
Same with movies.

But comparing music and films to gaming is not a one to one comparison.
So far streaming gaming been dismal.

I guess I didn’t have my scope wide enough and didn’t really read the convo correctly. So my bad.

I meant that people would rather buy their media whether it be physical or digital. Sometimes when it comes to ongoing or very long shows/movie series’ that streaming is often easier and preferred. But there is always the looming “when will this be rotated out of the service” or “will the next season happen on this platform?” like Netflix or Hulu have been doing.

For instance SE1 of One Punch Man is on Netflix but SE2 is on Hulu. Mayans MC SE1 is on Hulu but not SE2, etc.

I buy almost all my Gaming media physically unless the price difference is just too good to pass up. With movies, music and tv shows I prefer digitally unless the price difference is too great.

For instance I bought Cowboy Bebop on Blu-Ray for $24 because it’s $53 digital.

I got sonic mania digitally because it was only $15 (Dlc included) and it’s iirc $30 or $40 physical?

Stuff like that. I’ll go with whatever format has the better deal at the moment.

All this said, googles weird streaming box is going to crash and burn. I think we can all agree on that.

Well I guess you could always hung down a physical copy of SC4 if you wanted that. Tbh I thought the star wars characters were a low point of that game but I understand what you’re saying. It’s little different than games being out of print though, or you losing games you bought.

Sales dropped because there were alternatives and people jumped for them. There isn’t an alternative to buying a game if you own a console that isn’t hacked, and most people don’t hack their consoles.

Streaming gaming has been dismal because there really aren’t many ways for people to do it, so it hasn’t caught on yet. Buying digital games is the choke point to streaming just like it was in the music business, people realized they didn’t care if they owned the music as long as they had access to it, and that’s what’s going to happen with games I bet.

Music and videos are such different media than videogames, and there is a much larger market for them as well. I don’t really see streaming games having as much success as music and TV and movies, but I’m also almost 40 years old and I love my consoles.

It just seems like we don’t have a sufficient enough internet infrastructure yet to replace hardware at home.

Here the thing you aren’t getting.
Streaming Videos or Audio is one thing.
If the bandwidth is too low you can always turn down the bit rate and get a slightly lower quality Audio or video that’s rendering at a lower resolution, you can still enjoy those music and movies.

Gaming, you can’t just turn down the bit rate.
You going to get lag, dropped or false inputs and disconnects. There only so much you can do to a streaming game. Use you can turn the resolution down on the video or pipe down worst quality audio, but you can’t really fit that when it comes to inputs. It’s bad enough with single player games, it’s going to be a nightmare with multiplayer. And forget fighters, how bout games like CS Go, were there like 12 people to a map?

I feel like streaming games would murder people’s bandwidth caps and shit.

I think Nintendo will always have hardware. If streaming does become a thing, then they’ll have ultimately won the console wars :joy:
