Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

I would recommend Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) if you like Uncharted.

Can’t say they are the greatest but they give you some recommendations.

The Tomb Raider reboot trilogy was outstanding imo but crystal dynamics/square constantly shot themselves in the foot the entire time which is why it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Yeah you can put steam on your phone or computer or whatevers and check out videos, prices, player reviews, etc., etc… Its a good thing to look at to get some insight of games you’re interested in.

Did they ever.

From announcement of them calling the first game a failure at one of their quarterly meetings despite it selling over a million to the I’ll advised Xbox One timed exclusivity on the second game to dropping the third in a crowded holiday. Square Enix just kept fucking up.

ha, I’m enjoying that “Styx” game…it was one of the “free” games on Live. I know the focus is on the stealth, but I still wish Styx had more of a fighting chance whenever you’ve been seen.

…and that’s another thing…being “seen” and failing at stealth games is always hilarious to me, even if I’m initially pissed off… just on the first area I was discovered by the guards about 6 times. There was a few times when I was able to successfully get away and hide though until they gave up looking for me.

Gonna give this a try sometime today -

Hope its fun. I once imported a DBZ game for the PS around '99 and it was lame.

brehs. like a lot of you i waited 20 years for shen3. but the nostalgia isn’t quite enough to prevent it from being annoying.

anyway im just wondering if anyone has combat tips. fighting game principles are difficult to apply because of the camera and the weird move assignment system. i had preordered the game and got the “blazing kick” move but it doesnt seem that useful. im currently stuck on white tiger at martial hall and it has gotten frustrating to lose by a hair, shoot the shit for the rest of the day to wake up with full health, repeat. not gonna lie, i do not remember 1 and 2 being this irritating.

another question is related to what i imagine is an early work or food opportunity: how do i make use of the fishing license the old lady in panda market gives you after you find that mushroom for her. i follow the map and go to the exact area it tells you to go to but i cant figure out how to start fishing.

thank you. pardon the blurring im just trying to let people go into the game as fresh as they might want to.

The first game for a lot of blow back for people not liking how they made Laura grow as a character. They “grew” her through potential sexual assaults and more or less mutilation instead of actual character growth and real adversities to get over. Not a good look.

Granted, I don’t agree with that assessment because I actually played the game but it got out there quick which made people immediately snub it. Which hurt sales. I had no idea they called it a failure though. Lol

With Rise The Xbone exclusivity was annoying but I don’t think it would have been an issue if they hadn’t of released it on the same fucking day as Fallout 4. Thankfully it bounced back with the PS4 release. Sony was smart and pushed it as an exclusive despite it not being one. They treated it as something special.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider just had absolutely no marketing plus Crystal Dynamics pissed off everyone when not even 2 weeks later it was 50% off on PSN cause it didn’t reach the unreasonable week one sales goals Square wanted.

Umm…she over came a lot more then that. That’s the first half hour of the game only dude. It’s not the only thing she over came, that’s nonsense.

I’m aware of that. I didn’t say I agreed with the reasoning. But that was a massive criticism. I clarified my post.

Alright. Was a stupid criticism to lol.

It impacted sales a lot, unfortunately. Cause people tried to make it more of an issue than it was.

Yea I remember. I was really mad. They laser focused on a 5 minute event and ignored the other 8 or 9 hours.

The problem with the new Trilogy is somehow the games got duller as time went on, not better.

i guess the only prob i had with new tomb raider games is she lost personality in their attempt to make her super serious.

Ive only played 2 parts of the new Lara Croft trilogy but the 1st was crack. Snipping fools with the bow & arrow is so satisfying. Only made it to the 1st dungeon in Part 2.

I honestly prefer them to Uncharted (not that that series is a slouch, mind you). Shame they think they’re a failure

I enjoyed the first 2 of the current TR series, the 3rd one was boring as shit though.

IMO…

TR 2013 - Slightly more “Actiony” 9/10
ROTR 2015 - slightly more exploration/puzzly" 9/10

Shadow of TR 2018 - Too much emphasis on mandatory stealth. Significantly less action than both of the previous two games. Puzzles were just ok. 7.5/10
