One good game in the past 12 years? And that one was arguable? And over two years ago itself? And also a remake of a game that’s been remade to death? Alongside Metroid Prime 4 being vaporware for the past 3 years now?

Dead franchise until proven otherwise fam

oh yeah…and the masterpiece I was just mentioning some weeks ago here… Soul Sacrifice. The greatest tragedy of that game is that it was handcuffed to the PS Vita… so a lot of people probably never even heard of it, and they will NEVER experience that greatness.

Legend status.

I don’t know if I’d say it’s completely dead, more like on life support. But it’s definitely the series I want hit with an adrenaline shot the most.

Literally new game 2 years ago. You liking it or not is irrelevant.

And yea Metroid Prime 4 confirmed being worked on.

Literal definition of not dead.

I really hope we get a 2020 release. Been waiting a long time.

Obvious hyperbole aside, Metroid may not be literally dead, but I’d hardly call the series alive and well.

Metroid isn’t quite dead since its had a remake and a new game in the making currently. May have an argument during the Other M hiatus but not at the moment. Just be glad your franchise ain’t Star Tropics or Earthbound. Western Earthbound cats can’t even get a simple localization of a game in their franchise that they’ve wanted for years.

Also unrelated to that…

I simply rebuffed the claim that it was dead :coffee:

It’s not where I want it to be either. I’d love it if we get a Prime Trilogy announcement for spring and Prime 4 for fall.

Prime 4 in late 2020 would be awesome but not gonna hold my breath on that. I’m not expecting that game out until 2021 at the earliest. They only announced the redo 11 months ago.

Yeah, fingers crossed and all, but you’re probably right.

Man I’d be thrilled even just with the collection being ported to Switch. Samus Returns was kinda bittersweet, as a game I’ve already played to death, including its various remakes that already existed and arguably do a better job anyway.

33rd anniversary was back in August and Nintendo didn’t even give a fuck because it wasn’t Mario, Zelda or Pokémon. Same with the 30th. Same with the 25th.

Over the course of 12 years, we got a spin off, some vaporware announcements, and a remake of one of the most unpopular games. All of those occurring in the very latter half of that 12 years. For semantics sake, we don’t have to call it “dead”. It’s just a rotting zombie corpse with missing legs, barely resembling life at all.

Well you kind of have to deal with the fact that the only people who actually like Metroid are Americans. It isn’t a pillar franchise so Nintendo doesn’t really have a reason to give it any attention. Like they didn’t do a bunch of shit for Kid Icarus 30th or whatever either? Ice Climbers are best known as “Those two Eskimos from Smash Bros.” As mentioned fucking Star Tropics bro.

Metroid still gets games man. It’s not even close to a rotting corpse. If anything Metroid has a lot of respect behind it because it doesnt get a shit load of games constantly to run it’s design ideas into the ground. Like there are over 100 Megaman games bro. Can you even name half of them?

I can’t lol.

It gets a hell of a lot of clones though.

A lot of them suck to.

What are some of the better metroidvania style games? Off the top of my head, I’ve played and like:

Axiom Verge
Gucamelee
Hollow Knight
Shovel Knight

I have Bloodstained on my radar and will eventually pick that up. What about Dead Cells? Is that kinda metroidvania? I’ve heard a lot y’all talking about it but I haven’t looked into it too much.

I feel like Metroid is quite a bit more recognizable than either of those series tho (Ice Climbers and Kid Icarus) , so it only makes sense that it should get more attention.

I mean, you’re right tho, it’s never been a huge presence here. As iconic as Samus is, those games have never really been blockbuster sellers period. And my dignity as a fan of the series remains intact because they never really ran it into the ground with countless bastardizations that nobody asked for. Much like Mega Man.

I’m just getting my Po on for a second bro. I’m sad Nintendo isn’t giving the series quality attention for such a long period of time. Metroid isn’t in some horrific spot or anything, but I do think it deserves better. :slightly_frowning_face:

Most of the Castlevania Metroid type games are good at the least if not great. On the old school front Monster Boy 3 (this recently got a graphical remake for modern systems), Wonderboy in Monster World, and Monster World IV.

Modern front I also recommend the 2013 Strider, and an older PS3/360 era game named Shadow Complex.

And yea Bloodstained was really good if you like those CV Metroid games.

@Majora-Martian I hear you, just hard to get behind the sentiment when I can’t get more then a cameo out of Viewtiful Joe…
