Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

Adding to what you said: Considering both games was developed first for the Taito Type X hardware which is based on PC hardware and runs on a variant of Windows XP. So for the Xbox 360 Port the game devs gets to use the exact same libraries and have very little code to rewrite. Plus Microsoft is really good about offering Direct X support to big name Devs, and the 360 (and Xbox One) uses Direct X libraries and APIs.

The PS3 version as it can not use Direct X had to have large parts of it’s game code rewritten, some places from scratch. And Capcom was on a rush and didn’t get too much help. (Sony was lacking in Dev support at this time).

Yet you also have games like Final Fantasy XIII and batman Arkham Asylum that ran better on the PS3 than the Xbox 360.

@radiantsilvergun3 Oh? Really? It felt much much longer than that.

And for sure. Lol. Social media wasn’t as dominant back then

It could be, depending of the game.
For example, both games have 512mb of ram, but the ps3 has it segmented in 2, so you never have access to the 512mb at all times, you have to play with both memories of 256, making it harder for the programmers.

If a game were to be memory intense and the ps3 version was poorly optimized, it can easily affect the performance.

The 360 also has some stuff like that, but the bus that transfers the info between the cpu and the memory.
In short both consoles had their quirks that could easily derail the performance of a game when playing online.
Now usually, both sony and the 360 had clauses that forced developers to have bothg versions behave as close as possible to the competing one, but there were some games where some issues arised due not having enough developement time, or being games at the begining of the ps3 life cycle.

As time went on, more games actually started to ran better on the ps3 when compared to the 360 since it had some stuff that made it slightly more powerful and devs were more experienced.

Yea was real soon after release. Shortened load times and improved the frame rate. Made it more solid and reliable. Never managed to get it up to 60fps consistantly like on 360 and and its colors are no where near as vibrant either unfortunatly.

Still runs pretty well. PP’d normal on PS3 just fine and could do everything there I can do on 360. Only thing is say is a little harder is the parry mechanic.

360 feels and look a nicer to play on tho. The Switch Version is pretty nice to.

Had an xbox 360, eventually got RROD. Apparently, the inner design was crap

Microsoft itself, however, refuses to reveal details of the malfunction that has forced the company incur huge expenses. So, we can only investigate the cause by ourselves. Nikkei Electronics thereby attempted to analyze the Xbox 360’s heat radiation system, having a thermal design expert cooperate.

The temperature gap with room temp was 22 degrees C. “When designing consumer products, it is common to seek a temperature gap of around 10 degrees C between exhaust and room temperatures,” the thermal design expert said. “The 22 degrees C is quite a large gap…”

• The cooling fan was half of desktop PCs—apparently to reduce noise.

• The expert pointed out, “The heat sink on the graphics LSI is so small, I wonder if it can really cool down the board.” The reason for this? Apparently, Microsoft had to downsize the graphics LSI heat sink so that the DVD drive could be placed above it.

• In five minutes after booting up a game, the graphic LSI heat sink temp rose to 70 degrees C. In 15 minutes, the temperature for the microprocessor heat sink stabilized at 58 degrees, but the graphics LSI heat sink reached 80 degrees C. If the room temperature was high (like 35 degrees C), the heat sink could possibly hit 100 degrees C. What’s more, if the vents were clogged with dust, the temperature could also increase.

• The console repaired in May 2007 did not have a new heat sink placed in it.

This is bad design. Really, really bad.

SamShoVSp online is way better on PSN than on Steam and they have the same netcode. All I can figure is that Sony’s server infrastructure is better but it’s a palpable difference.

I owned SFIV on everything. PS3 version was straight garbage. The online was terrible man. I moved around quite a lot during SFIV’s peak. It boggled my mind how the game online would be fine on PC and 360 while being Hank Hill Ass on PS3. If it wasn’t for the 3DS version the PS3 would have had the worse online by far.

Also played sf4 on everything. There was literally no difference between playing ps3 and 360 online. Except they did have certain weird differences such as how they displayed match quality. XBL always displayed 5 green bars no matter what the connection really was while psn had bar colors all over the place that didn’t matter either. PC was the only one of the 3 that felt playable and more consistent. But that’s not saying much because of the netcode.

Just finished Link’s Awakening. Such a fantastic game. It has such charm. I would rather a new top down Zelda game like this built from scratch than a BOTW sequel.

For being a 20 year old game on Game Boy, this game was WAY ahead of it’s time.

Link’s Awakening pioneered a lot of the staples we see in modern Zelda games today. One of the notable ones was trading.

Only halfway through myself. I take. My sweet time admiring this game.

I always love when even after 20 years people get to see, feel and think the same things I did when I played Links Awakening on Gameboy Color as a child. And still feel as an adult.

Links Awakening is my favorite LoZ ever and it’s great to see so many people figure out why it’s regarded as one of the best Zelda titles of all time.

Blizzcon this year is going to be lit. It’s at the end of the month.

Did anyone happen to pick up Concrete Genie today? Or plan to?

Isnt this blizcon the one where they are forcing the attendants to use an app that is super invassive and that they company who developed it uses it to sell your info?

Yup. AXS app is spyware and doesn’t work properly judging from user reviews.

That is a sure fire way to kill attendance

Dunno about that, Blizzard has one of the most rabid fanbase, only behind nintendo, imo.
Thoguh it sucks for them, since it seems that Blizzard is becoming more and more like Activision with day that passes.

I was fearing that, like with any other Con forcing a use of an app on con goers that is spyware and selling user info would be a near death sentence for that con.

Looks like video game fans will buy up any Broken Bull shit companies dump on them.

I’d go there in a shirt that read “June 4, 1989. Tianamen Square” in Chinese and try to get on as many streams as possible
