Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

I’d wait at least a full year instead of jumping on immediately. First of all, you don’t know how good is the launch lineup going to be. Paying 500$+ to play pastgen games is not a good idea.
Secondly, first revisions always have issues - hardware, software, etc. Those will be handled eventually.
Thirdly, games that will be available day one will be on sale which means you can save up on filling up the collection. Win-win all around

My rule of thumb when it comes to new hardware is there needs to be a good rotation of games out to justify dropping that kind of coin on a system. 3-5 games is usually the sweet spot.

Potential is also a huge factor. Despite how much we’ve heard about the PS5 we actually haven’t heard much except iirc it’s going to be backwards compatible, current VR rig compatible and then the features announced today.

The reason I bought the switch at launch was because during their unveiling I saw enough games presented during the unveiling that they said were in development to warrant the purchase. I don’t regret day one’ing it either

Iirc the switch is the only console I’ve personally day one’ed. I didn’t buy a PS3 until the slim, didn’t buy a PS4 until the Slim, didn’t buy the DS until Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, didn’t buy a Wii until almost 3 years into the consoles life, didn’t buy a 360 until the “Falcon” model of the Arcade models came out.

As a kid My parents bought me the genesis (and most of its add ons) and psone when they launched. Didn’t buy me a PS2 until a year after release. Similar with GBC and GBA.

I’ve not decided yet on which one I plan on getting. We still got a whole year before I make that call anyway.

Also, for all I know I could end up making my Switch the primary console in the house :triumph:

I wait a year after a console launches to wait out all the early adopter kinks. I’m not trying to get caught in no red ring, disc read error, overheating level of bullshit.

This is why I waited so long to get a 360. I wasn’t going to play that bullshit.

It always blew my mind the amount of apologists the 360 community had. Players saying “this is my 6th 360. The others red ringed on me” “So why didn’t you stop buying them after the first replacement?” “Cause I like the system” -_-

If there’s anything that’ll get me to buy a PS5 early, it’s if backwards compatibility works seamlessly, as in every game from the PS4 working from day juan.

With the exception of Dreamcast, I generally wait 2 years for either a price cut and to see if there are any glaring issues.

Out of the 7 systems I have owned, X360 was the only one that ever failed on me. Ironically, it was the one I had the longest time as my main console - 8 years.

I personally knew an Xbox apologist. My friend brought 5 360s. One of them even red ringed during a Halo session when we were at his place. He invested too much in the platform to abandon it. He eventually did once Sony dropped the price of the PS3 and managed to turn things around. He never went back outside of a handful of exclusives.

PS4 was the first console I bought that lasted me the whole generation and didn’t need replacing with an updated/slim model. And it’s not like I babied the thing too. Brought this around all over the place, both for majors (served as the main stage console for a couple of majors and a Red Bull Kumite event), and just for training back when I was attached to a local esports team. Prior to this, I’d go through at least two consoles a generation.

Before the PS3 finally hit its stride this forum was pretty much nothing but 360 apologists. Lol

I only had one 360, don’t have to apologize for shit. Still works to :coffee:

What model 360 you have?

Though I don’t own a 360 anymore when I bought the “falcon” model of the arcade model I didn’t have to replace it either because they had finally figured out how to stop RROD.

I’ve never owned an XBox. Always PlayStation and Nintendo for me!

I had an OG Xbox and my 360. My OG Xbox was stolen long ago in a break in (weirdest break in…took the old hat Xbox, left the brand fucking new PS3) otherwise i would still have that to.

I’ve never owed an Xbox console. I’ve always stuck with PlayStation for home console and Nintendo for portables. I hopped back on the Nintendo console wagon with the Wii U which was regrettable. Switch is a great comeback.

How about that?

The dualshock 5 sounds interesting…hoping the battery can last with the amount of shit they are putting in it. No excuses this time Sony.
