Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

Unfortunately it has. Not telling how ancient my ass will be tomorrow

I bought that ā€œComplete Editionā€ of SFV. It’s honestly a damn good amount of content for the price point, AND I’ll be getting Gill for free alongside whatever character drops after him.

I really wish that game released in its current state. Or at least something closer to what it is now. I don’t need 40 characters at launch but damn. 20 or so characters, half of these stages and all of these quality of life additions would’ve made the SFV launch SOOOO much more digestible. For the people that have always enjoyed the game, it’s in a better place than it’s ever been and it doesn’t seem like they had to do THAT MUCH to get it here. It just has a ton of stuff it should’ve always had, now.

At the same time though it’s kinda hard to get as excited for Gill when much better games like DBFZ and Tekken are getting new peeps too. SFV kinda feels like it’s going to start winding down over the next year or so. I wouldn’t be surprised if 2020 was the last Evo for it, but, we’ll see.

I’m almost prepared for Capcom to repeat SFV’s launch mistakes for SF6 in a few years from now

If they botch SF6, or whatever the next installment is called, I’m gonna be really disappointed. I’ll probably just have to say goodbye to this franchise and resign the rest of my days to being a Third Strike player.

They have so many good examples to follow right now, too. Say what you will about them gameplay wise but, Mortal Kombat games definitely set standards with this stuff. Those games launch with a plethora of content, for all the varieties of people that play these games. They function perfectly, load incredibly fast, offer a stable netcode and a healthy amount of launch content which is usually supplemented with additional content in a timely manner. There’s frame data IN THE GAME, detailed breakdowns of each and every move, and comprehensive tutorials that actually do a good job of explaining Mortal Kombat concepts AND fighting game concepts in general.

If the next Street Fighter can provide these things at launch (which, let’s be real, this is all basic stuff that should be in EVERY fighter), while being a good looking game with solid gameplay that invokes the older games a little more… They could really have something special.

But again, we’ll see. Part of me has to believe that they can’t fuck up a launch that badly twice.

That’s been me since IV AE. I bought SFV: AE used and absolutely hated it. I returned it to GameStop the next week.

I’d rather they take a long hiatus with SF than rush out to put one out for PS5 early years

And work on gameplay, online interface and have minimum 24 characters at launch.

Tekken 7 console launch- 35-36
KOF 14 -50
MK 10/11 - roughly 25

SF 5 -. 16 characters

Exactly.

Like, I even like Ultra and SFV as games. But for the most part they aren’t what I want out of SF.

With the update and patching working the way it does now I’ll just wait for the last iteration of SFVI and leave it at that.

Random thoughts/speculation of RE3:

I don’t know why this just now registered or why I never considered it before…but that trailer has Nemesis coming at you from the ceiling. If this guy can fucking bust through the floors of this game both above and below then thats gonna be some shit.

Clever of them to sneak in Evo Moment 37 into Gills vid.

That’s the smart decision

But I’m not here to make smart decisions

Exactly. Why jump in when the game is going to be patched to Hell.

Any XCOM fans in here?

I’m thinking about getting this game Phoenix Point. The premise and gameplay has me really interested. Apparently it’s made by some of the XCOM peeps too

I’ve never played an XCOM game but I’m wondering if any of you would recommend starting with one of those games first. The top down, strategic perspective shifting combat is what has me intrigued. I have no idea where to start with that series tho, and iirc people seemed to hate one of the more recent XCOM games.

CPU FAN ERROR
Updated the BIOS directly via the internet(da future is here)
CPU FAN ERROR
Fucking bitch. I looked up onrine and others had this issue. I had to disable something in the Bios related to the fan. I still got a weird error, but it allowed me to boot to Windows 10.

I updated the AMD drivers, she restarted(NO ERRORS!) and now I think I’m in business. Only 1 8-pin as well in the mobo instead of 8+4.

Went to Walmart and got my oldest niece A Hat in Time. I was gonna get her Luigi’s Mansion 3 and I know she would like that but the more vids I watch of A Hat in Time, the more I leaned towards it. She missed out on the N64 era of platformers so it’ll be a bit fresh for her. Plus, I get the feeling she’ll love Hat Kid.

I just turned my 3DS on for the first time in over a year. Man, I gotta say…holy shit I don’t remember the left thumb stick being so unbelievably shitty

Well I mean…assuming SF6 comes right the series’ 35th anniversary, it will have been around 6 years since SF5’s launch. That’s quite plenty of time to make a new entry. And I guarantee you they’re already testing prototype builds internally. According to Ono the first concepts for V were being born in 2012, while the game was first shown publically only in 2014.

Basically don’t be surprised if next year at Capcom Cup they’re going to drop a teaser trailer or a whole short demo video

That’s not an entirely fair comparison. KOF’s models are much simpler graphically, and Tekken had like three years worth of Arcade cab updates before making it onto consoles

I used mine recently too, and what offended me more was how fucking terrible the graphics are for like 98% of the games.

PSP games look better on average…you need the 3D effect on to hide the shitty graphics.

ā€œBadā€ graphics rarely ever matter to me. I was checking to see if certain games I was thinking about buying had DLC or not. I just couldn’t understand how I dealt with such a fucking garbage thumb stick for YEARS sinking hundreds of hours into games with that

I guess shit like the pro controller for the switch have spoiled me.

Ah, the countless hours spent playing Monster Hunter on that thing. With one joystick.

Hell on Earth has never been as close, since.
