Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

I just called it RE3Make myself but it does look little funny.

Arguing about RE game length is stupid. A majority of them are meant to be speedrun to begin with. Most of them are hella short, it’s the replay value that sells RE games pre-Code Veronica.

As for Code Veronica, I agree it needs a remake…but if only because unlike RE2 and RE3, Code Veronica was not a particularly good game. It was okay at best. It delved deeper into characters…but it also turned Claire into a complete moron and gave us fucking Steve. The gameplay loop of classic RE also REALLY started to show its age here and poor flow really hurt the game overall.

None of the Resident Evil games are that long.
RE are the target of speed runners as it already so short.

As for Plot/Story content? Who cares, Resident Evil don’t make alot of sense of what the story plot actually covers.

Chris is a shapeshifter too. RE1 and CV Chris look nothing like RE5 and 6 Chris, and those two look nothing like Chris in 7(which is one of, if not my least favourite mainline RE. I’ll never understand the praise for the title either, jabronis never played FEAR.)

There were some tense situations in CV. Tyrant on da plane. Giant ass snakes. Nosferatu.

I remember I had fuck all for resources when I got to Tyrant on the plane. I had to restart the game from scratch. OLDSCHOOL GAMING

I just remember Plane Tyrant being a bullshit as fuck boss fight and if you weren’t prepared you where done. Start over friendo.

Also gotta co-sign Saitsu, Code Veronica makes Clair into a massive moron and it’s frustrating to deal with.

Was playing Valhalla Knights 3 on the Vita the other day.

I did some quests and entered a big ass field outside of the main city. I killed some deadly rabbits ala Ragnarok Onrine(shiiiet I forgot I bought last gens ragnarok game on PS3/Vita. I need to try it) and I killed some random ass soldiers in the field.

I saw this one soldier who looked a bit bigger than the others. Whatever, he’s gonna get rekt I thought. He proceeded to two shot both of my party members right before he two shot me. This is in the starting area of the game, the developers didn’t give a fuck.

The problem is that the Plane Tyrant was bullshit even for classic RE Survival Horror. It’s one thing to have to conserve resources but RE was pretty good about giving you just enough of a warning that shit is going to hit the fan so you can hit up the nearest item box for whatever you got left. The Tyrant is no such luck, that part of the game screws most players, even veterans of RE because you get no forewarning that you have to deal with the Tyrant and there’s no way to boot up a save to backtrack and get the stuff you likely have stashed away. You are forced to restart the whole game.

I brouhr up length cuz its literally a reused RE2, that shit could be DLC because of how short and inconsequential 3 is. It took 3 hours to say ā€œJill wuz here tooā€

CV was literally meant to be 3, Capcom made Nemesis to appease Sony unless I remember wrong

Alot of ppl care actually. Not sayin RE is some great shakespearen masterpiece, but ppl are pretty invested in the characters & lore šŸ¤·šŸ¾

And the length actually made Code Veronica worse, not better. I would actually argue that the Resident Evil franchise is proof positive that games shouldn’t be long for the sake of being long. Being 3-4 hour romps on a first go around and then shaving it down to under an hour is RE at its best. Even RE4 gets down to around 90 minutes if you’re really damn good.

In fact, just looking briefly, Code Veronica is actually the ā€œslowestā€ Main Title RE game to speedrun to date outside of RE6. The fact that both RE4 and RE5 are faster says a whole lot considering how cinematic both of those games are.

The game is overly long and just a poor scenario for RE. Don’t get me wrong, it had some good ideas but many are implemented sub-optimally. Who knows, maybe it’s because Nemesis forced the team to split developers to complete both and it harmed the final product, but it is what it is. CV is most definitely on the lower end of the Mainline RE titles, alongside 6 and 0 (though not as bad as those two).

I’d take 6 and 0 over 7 any day.

It’s the constant juggling of items between characters that made RE0 a slog. I think they increased the inventory size for the re-release though ?

That makes no sense, all Resident Evil games can be beaten with in 1.5 to 5 hours Depending on the game. CV being the obvious exception. RE 1 Has a unlock for beating the game under 3 hours.

As being Inconsequential? Is it because the Events of RE3 overlaps RE2? Who the fuck cares?
RE 3 Follows Jill, who one of the original characters. Who gives a shit about Clare and Leon, with your Logic RE 2 is inconsequential.

I literally gave facts why CV was more important, u literally find out some of the origins of Umbrella. But If you personally like Re3 more, thats cool but facts are factsšŸ¤·šŸ¾

No one cares why big evil company is the big evil company.
Later games fill in the same plot points.

Code veronica is so fucking long and Lame, the Arcade version Biohazard Gun Survivor Code nemesis was better by a long shot by making the game significantly shorter and dumping all the story plot for the trade off the return of RE3’s Big Bad in the CV setting.

No, you are arguing stupid objective reasons for RE3, and no one cares about Veronica other than Archie.

Pick Jill in MVC3, taunt then call Nemesis for the assist. Thats RE3 in a nutshell šŸ¤·šŸ¾

Now you’re being silly…but then what can you be when arguing with Darksakul

CV adds a lot of important stuff outside of Wesker. The introduction of the Ashford family added to lore of the series. Lore that was used to craft the story of RE5.

HD man is right about it adding more to the overall series narrative than 3.

I always thought CV seemed like more a proper sequel. RE3, was a good game, but it just felt like a rehash to me.

the more I think of and play Soul Calibur 6, the more it just annoys me with the CONSTANT goddamn loading. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game with character creation load after EVERY change you implement on the character. It’s just stupid, man… once again, it’s odd that a certain friend actually tolerates that shit…he’s made dozens of characters in it. (sidenote/cheapshot–haha because he barely has much to do, actually; his job doesn’t grant that many hours) Think about that shit for a minute and how much time this takes up:

  • Change hairstyle = load time
  • change pants and cycle thru various types of pants = loading each time.
  • moving to the shirts section = load time.
  • change shirts 5 times = 5 instances of loading.
  • change the fighting style 6 times = 6 more instances of loading.

Whoever designed it this way… can kindly go get hit by a fucking bus. Eat some shit too, bitch.

If it’s the same situation in future Soul Calibur games then fuck it, I’m done with the franchise…the shit irritates me the more I think about it, man.

hmm…someone at another forum posted a comparison/poll kinda topic about Skyrim vs. Breath of the Wild… y’know, I never thought of this before…but imagine if Skyrim was more like that Zelda game… ohhhh I’d absolutely play that. (like imagine if someone modded BOTW to just be ā€œSkyrim BOTWā€ā€¦)
…MINUS the weapon degradation issue though; I’m still not on board with that foolishness. I’d rather not have my weapons still breaking after 2 or 3 combos, and without any means of fixing them.

No offense but Soul Calibur used to be a good fighting game series before its focus shifted from developing its characters to Create A Soul, which is generally used to cosplay characters from other IPs to the detriment of the classical characters of the series.
