ah, so the combat is inspired by Dishonored…and they’re apparently reworking some things…
Fall from grace, UHN!! guitar riff
I like the level design and pacing of Turok 1 a lot more than the weird objective based missions in 2.
I finished and still own the Turok 1 cart. I beat it a ton of times back in the day, and when it re-released on steam I played through it again and had a blast. I bought Turok 2 on Steam as well, but I got about half way through before stopping. I just don’t find it nearly as fun as the original.
If you kill a humanoid enemy in Turok 1 with an explosion, they let out a hilarious yell. You can dead body combo enemies with explosives too and it’s not even a fighter, haha.
“BA WOOO WAYY AHHHH” is the classic death sound effect. You’ll know, it sounds exactly like that.
If you get all of the secret collectibles you unlock an alien nuke that makes the DOOM BFG look like a pellet gun by comparison. It will literally one tap the entire screen combined with a slick audio and visual effect, amd it one to two taps every boss in the game. To this day it’s one of the most ridiculous guns I’ve ever used in a shooter. LEGEND
Finally getting to sit down and really dedicate a chunk of time to Shenmue III…i made it boys…after 18 years finally made it to Bailu Village lmao. Shit man…
well i finished the main story of pokemon shield yesterday. i realized im definitely one of those problem fans that keeps franchises from moving forward because i went in expecting pokemon on my tv and thats what i got and i was entertained. there is some stuff like global trade center being replaced with that stupid code and the frame rate will shit itself if your online while going through the wildlands but thats the only time it was super noticeable to me. i do miss dragonite but he’s been shitting on other pokemon for 20 years he can miss one i guess.
kinda video game related … but I applied for a QA analyst position at Playful Studios earlier today. Kinda of a long shot, since their home base is nearly three hours away outside of Dallas. If this pulls through, I’m definitely sending @Stuart_Hayden some nightmare fuel of Lucky
Considers current Pokémon game a problem, but buys it anyway.
This is one of the most confusing fanbases ever to me.
i don’t really have the sort of problems with current pokemon some people do. i do think that gamefreaks makes weird decisions like scrapping systems and ideas that work for something new instead of improving on them and adding whatever new shit they wanna try. the best way i can describe it is pokemon feels like pokemon man. as long as i can go into some tall grass and be surprised at what pops up every once in a while and take youngster joeys 500 dollars from him ill prob be satisfied but that’s just me i see what everyone else is mad about tho.
Fair enough. You know, as much as the Pokémon fanbase can be intolerable I actually agree with the main complaints. Not having the full Dex sucks and the game can be a little visually underwhelming sometimes. But I think a lot of the great stuff they’ve done with the game is being glossed over entirely because of it.
Not to mention the fact that Pokémon fans go about voicing their issues in the most childish way possible, so yeah, I doubt Game Freak would be inclined to ever actually consider their input.
Glad you’re enjoying the game though. I’m happy the game is doing so well despite the constant narcissism on the internet.
I finally finished Jedi Fallen Order. What a damn ride. Started from beginning to end in Hard Mode because why not right?
Summary
Positives:
-
Combat always keeps you on your toes. Because of a lack of an all out stamina bar, it never drags too much or feels too frustrating. It’s quick and engaging and for the most part any deaths feel like mistakes you make rather than the game just being cheap. It definitely opens up more once you get new powers and such.
-
Double Bladed Lightsaber was a welcome surprise to me (I hadn’t seen the final trailers) and actually allows you to tackle fights in alternative ways, which is something I was worried about. Plus, solid crowd control.
-
The Platforming was surprisingly fun. I thought I’d end up dreading it, but they did a great job more or less. There’s a couple of finicky spots but it doesn’t take too long to get past, and you aren’t just fucked if you screw up at a point unless you’re already low on health (that did happen to me once, but only once).
-
The plot (at least) on Dathomir is pretty damn engaging. From the fate of the Nightsisters after Grievous did his genocide, to the fallen Jedi, to Merrin eventually joining you. The actual plot is good.
-
Adding to that, the overall plot of the game kept me going. Admittedly Cal is a lot like Vaan in Final Fantasy XII (though not annoying at all) where he pretty much exists to get the other characters going in their journeys and is otherwise along for the ride. But he does enough, and his friendship with BD-1 is great. Cere and Trilla are the stars of the show though and I really felt the push to keep going mainly due to these two, especially Trilla.
-
The Boss Fights were pretty great and again, never felt overly cheap. The Final Fight comes close but even then it has patterns to pick up on.
-
The game is just an excellent blend of the the Souls formula with the Metroidvania formula, built with a bunch of anti-frustration features that don’t diminish the game quality at all. It truly feels like the developers did their homework with both.
-
There’s enough cameos (that make sense), lore and just fun background stuff that make it all a great trip for any Star Wars fan.
Negatives:
-
The frame rate is ROUGH in this game. There were multiple points, especially on Dathomir, where things would chug like no one’s business. I’m sure it was more optimized for the Pro (though I hear there’s issues even on that) but it was hard to ignore.
-
Exploration feels unrewarding more or less. Sure you can get around to Health/Force/Stim Upgrades but otherwise all you get are visual customization options and nothing else. It makes going after those chests seem very unfulfilling.
-
On top of that, there’s not really much in the way of branching paths to get to the same objective. You usually have to get through an area once before you open up Shortcuts. The game blends a lot of Metroidvania stuff, but it does miss the boat a fair bit when it comes to exploration fun.
-
No New Game Plus, which really bites. This game could really use it.
-
Dathomir…the plot is great, the actual planet is not. As I mentioned, frame rate is REALLY rough here and the layout of the world is a pain in the ass. You’ll have to loop and backtrack through the same area 3 times at a minimum.
-
The puzzles. They’re not hard, but they’re kind of finicky at times since many require precision use of the Force and the physics don’t always cooperate.
-
Not enough use of Merrin after she joins the crew. She joins and…she has one moment where she saves you at the end and that’s about it. I imagine if there’s a sequel (and I’d wager that’s a very likely scenario with the game’s success) they’ll expand on it and maybe even explore a potential romance but for the most part she joins the crew far too late in the game which is a shame as her brief interactions with everyone were gold.
-
The Split Saber is a big disappointment. The game makes a massive deal out of obtaining this variant, even going with the big triumphant music as you’re expected to mow down a bunch of Stormtroopers on the way back to the Mantis. But…the Split Saber is really just another special attack which is incredibly disappointing. I mean it’s fine, another crowd control usage and is pretty valuable in the final fight on Dathomir but otherwise you’ll end up using it by accident more than intending to.
Honestly I loved the game a bunch.
Just got my code and redeemed it, so it’s legit.
@MARTIAN hey it just crossed my mind a bit ago. In Shenmue 1 you’re training your King Fu right? Spending some time in the morning with Fuku-San and dedicating some time to doing moves at the park or in the parking lot in Dobuite?
pretty good dark synth track, reminds me of Furi
Maybe once or twice I think. Should I be doing that?
I have a Playlist full of this type of shit for when I play DBFZ. Including songs from Furi lol.
Algorithm doesn’t usually go full darksynth like this, I need more of this from them. What album is this? Can’t find it in their Spotify discography.
Yes. You need to do it. You wont be able to finish the game if you dont. You literally won’t be strong or skilled enough by the end.
You don’t need to do it every day or anything but you do need to make time for it. It’s important. Remember you’re a martial artist who is avenging their father against a man who clowned you both without trying. You better practice bro.
On an unrelated note, my brother bought a Sounbar for his computer and the sound keeps cutting out on it. Anyone have any thoughts on the issue?
Oh. Does training actually alter your stats or something? I literally just thought it was to practice your movelist, lol.
How to EV Train your Mons in Sword and Shield
Yes it makes your moves do more damage. Each move has its own damage stat that can be raised through training.
back into Diablo 3 today…shamelessly hopping on that Crusader bandwagon…and yeah, holy shit this character is crazy OP now with the new set. Once you get the 6 piece bonus going on, it’s goddamn amazing. I’m still not even fully optimized here but the damage is already insane. I’m talking TRILLIONS of points of damage. It’s delicious.
