Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

Yea I can’t take someone’s opinion about a game remotely seriously when it’s formulated from watching a YouTube playthough.

Fucking clown ahoes.

It’s slightly less worse than dudes like Po Pimpus and Azure giving their opinions on games they never even played. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Naw it’s just as bad because he still hasn’t played it.

I’m a firm believer that in order to hate someone you need to have full knowledge of what it is you hate.

I hate the Twilight movies not because of the running meme of “hurr durr glittery vampires”. I have literally watched EVERY SINGLE movie and concluded by my own self that they are substantially not good movies. Glittering vampires is just a small part of that shit mix.

For me, games that I would consider “bad” are the ones that are virtually unplayable to me (bad controls, impossible difficulty caused by factors that are unrelated to the player’s skill level, glitches galore, etc.). Take for example, RE 6. Is it a bad representation of the RE franchise? Oh, without a doubt, but I can still PLAY the game, so I wouldn’t consider it neccesarily BAD. Disappointing, sure, I’ll take it. But a bad game, it is not.

I find it very weird that this thread is a place about discussing video games, what we think of them, initial reactions, reactions to updates…etc

But then when someone does so in some game a lot of people are looking forward to or people are enjoying but they don’t it’s suddenly a thing that isn’t allowed.

I get that death stranding is a very much “you have to play it to feel the full scope of it” and That’s fine but not a lot of people are willing to do that.

The great thing about modern gaming is we get so much info through interviews, gameplay trailers, overview trailers, reviews, demos etc… we can get a pretty good idea of what the game is going to be like. If nothing we see seems interesting or worth it, why would we invest into it?

No ones asking you to invest in something that doesn’t interest you. We are asking how you can have an informed opinion if you haven’t experienced it first hand? Gamers do things at different paces so one person’s bad pacing is another person’s taking their time. I could beat Witcher 3 in 20 hours if I wanted to or I could spend well over 120 hours on it, easily. Doesn’t mean it has shit pacing, just means I like to take my time and do everything.

This is like having an informed opinion about a movie because you read news paper articles about it. Yea sorry but you dont. Not imo anyway.

I’m all for talking about videogames I just find 9 times out of 10 that someone who hasn’t played the game in question doesn’t have much worth a damn to say about the game.

It’s one thing to say “oh reviews for that weren’t very good and it didn’t look interesting to me” and another to make definitive claims about something you haven’t experienced.

I did play DS and my opinion didn’t change. Still trash.

Cool story bro.

Did you even play the game to defend it so passionately? Lol

What passion? Why do you always do this? People have a different stance from you so you start attributing all these emotions to them. No passion man. Just banging out an opinion while I take my morning shit.

No I haven’t gotten to play it yet. I bought The Outer Worlds instead. Gonna get Shenmue 3 before it to. Probably rebuy Code Vein first as well.

Shenmue is our already???

I can’t keep up with all these games lmao. Still need to start Outer Worlds and Fallen Order is begging to be bought.

Need to see if there’re any other big releases this year.

It’s out on the 19th and is 20 dollars off at I think Best Buy on Black Friday. I want to scoop it then.

Outer Worlds is pretty ace so far. Like Mass Effect, Fallout and Firefly crashed into each other and a game resulted.

It IS allowed. How many times have I said it’s totally fine that people don’t like a game. The problem is when people conflate not liking or lack of interest with the inherent quality of the thing itself. I have no problem AT ALL with people not liking the game or not being interested in it. That’s inevitable.

I have no interested in PoE or Diablo AT ALL, but you don’t see me attacking them and saying the games are bad.

I tried to read though those books, they are awful and painful to read. The Twilight books are written for women with self esteam issues and insecure teens that can project them selves onto to Bella as she the worst kind of Mary Sue, the blank slate reader self insert kind.
I got no idea how they got published, that fact they were made into movies almost blows my mind.

I got Outter Worlds set for notify on steam once the game launches there.

Funny I got mild enjoyment from the Twilight books, but don’t think they translated well to film. :joy:

Definitely not the best thing ever, but I’d rate the series a 5.5 or 6 out of 10.

bought anthem for 10$ at my local shop and I gotta say that this game is actually pretty fun.

such a bitter pill, that Twilight… I can’t stand those movies…but I have the popularity of that to thank for the eventual Vampire Diaries becoming a thing later on television, which in turn gave birth to The Originals…so out of the trash that was Twilight, vampire fans got TVD/Originals (tho from what I hear, the “TVD” books were first) and True Blood.

back to gaming talk–I was just in the world of Vampyr once again, actually…still in the early part of a 3rd save/playthru. One odd thing I noticed—when you make clips of this game for the “activity feed” on Xbox Live…there’s never any sound. I figure that might be to avoid spoilers? Or perhaps something similar to music “Content ID” that “youtubers” always complain about? A reminder of just how great the difference is in feeding and just fighting things in that game— I noticed that each time I fought and killed a “Skal” (these are the ugly, more feral vampire types), it was only worth 5 points…I think it’s the same for fighting human enemies…when you feed on a citizen…on the “low” end you’re getting at least several hundred, maybe even 1000+ exp (higher value citizens are upwards of 2 or 3,000 a pop)…so you’d have to fight and kill a couple hundred enemies to equal one feeding session on a citizen…brilliant way to make that into an ongoing temptation for the player. There’s also exp you get just for speaking to them or eavesdropping and finding out more personal information.

currently at the part where someone is blackmailing Lady Ashbury… and I’ve been tasked to “take care” of them…heh I intend to be more of a vicious vampire this time around; ohhhhh this should be quite fun…

Anthem is nice in some of the mechanics but it is shallow compared to other loot games.

well, i have never played either God of War ps4 or Detroit Become Human. since i dont own a ps4. but watching playthroughs of both games, i’m way thoroughly entertained beginning to end tho. not a minute of either games is “boring.”
cuz good pacing.
but tryin to watch a playthrough of Death Stranding, its like impossible man.
its just, such fucked pacing. i cant bear it.

i’ve been thinking if kojima had made the game 20 hours max instead of 50+ hours.
and made it like, 1 hour gameplay, 30 minutes cutscenes, then 1 hour gameplay, then 30 minutes cutscenes.
wouldnt that essentially fix the biggest issue with the game?
the game is overindulgent. its kojima unchained but in a bad way.
people thought they were gonna get MGS x100 to the max fun.
but they got the opposite instead.
he needs, good editing. a good editor. like Lucas needed good editors in A New Hope.

a new hope was bad pacing before the 3 editors fixed its slow dull pacing.
