Pretty sure people hate Smashers rather than Smash itself. The series is a gigantic love letter to the world of gaming as a whole, the number of franchises included into it and how much attention to detail there is (e.g. Snake’s codec, Cloud’s summons, Ryu’s moveset, and so on and so forth) prove it.
The unfortunate reality is there are seemingly next to no decent human beings in its scene, be it casuals (all those social media posts) or pros

After how they handled the currently in development (?) Unreal Tournament title I want them to have nothing to do with the franchise, they’d probably try and turn it into a shitty F2P title or a Fortnite 2.0
How the fuck did Smash’s community get so bad though? I know the FGC is no rose garden itself, but Smasher land really seems like a trash heap. I literally don’t hear ONE good thing about smashers when they pop up. Not that I’m looking, but still…

Yeah I can play smash in a casual setting no problem. The game is awesome in that regard. But the smash playerbase is what’s so goddamn unbearable. As it’s been said here countless times they want to be part of the FGC but at the same time don’t want the FGC to be any part of them. While there are obviously exceptions, for the most part smashers tend to only play smash and don’t want to play actual fighting games.

No, I’m thinking of an actual Unreal Tournamen game Epic was working on not too long ago but it didn’t move anywhere past like an early alpha build and got abandoned, so there’s no hope for the franchise
