How can Tenchu birth a genre it is 10 years late to the party on? Kojima made his first stealth game in the 80’s, and Wolfenstein 1 still predates it. Tenchu didn’t invent shit except slow ass ninja with shoddy controls and vision that would make an eye doctor cackle with glee.
Tenchu was the first 3D stealth game. I didn’t note that in the first post.
Yea It is, but it’s the only notch on its belt worth talking about. It’s a terrible game and would be bitch slapped into next week the same year by Thief and Metal Gear.
Doing it first doesn’t really matter when you do it like shit and better product was literally nipping at your heels.
Imo anyway.
Thief and Metal gear solid were definitely better no question. Just noting things did come before metal gear. Its just weird most peeps only think of metal gear starting stealth genre or it was the only stealth series in the time frame.
I liked Tenchu though…
Lots of things came before Metal Gear, but if we count all stealth games, Metal Gear came before many many of its contemporaries, including its 3D identity. Metal Gear isn’t just a 3D stealth series so to lock it down as just a 3D Stealth series seems odd.
Alone in the Dark is technically the first survival horror game. No one gives a shit about it because it was terrible. Not when Resident Evil did it better and popularized it.
Yeah Metal Gear started as a 8 bit stealth game on the MSX and later NES. The one Game Boy Color game was pretty much a remake if MSX with a “new” group of Baddies.
Sweet Home for the Famicom (1989) said Hi.
I hope he has a good partner for writing because his work in that department is high school level.
I wouldn’t say Ghost Babel is a remake of either MSX Metal Gear. Aside from being 2D and the obvious Metal Gear trappings they aren’t much alike at all. Metal Gear Solid is more of a remake of Metal Gear 2 then Ghost Babel is a remake of anything.
Ghost Babel is amazing tho, really good GBC game. I want to say I remember Kojima only supervising it tho.
Edit: Almost all of Kojima’s stuff is co-written so he’s almost always had someone working with him on the writing.
Guess your right.
Also alot of Hollywood writers have a co-wrighter. What makes a interesting script becomes really boring reading, and what’s interesting reading dont work as a script
Yea I can only think of a hand full of directors who wrote all of the shit they directed. Only Tarantino and Kevin Smith pop into mind at the moment.
I wouldn’t consider his past collaborations successful in that department either.
Irrelevant to the point I responded to. The quality of his writing is mostly subjective. I quite like it most of the time.
EA chooses not to renew Skate Trademark
I had a hell of a lot more fun playing Tenchu than MGS. MGS clearly had massively better production values, but 85% of the game is cutscenes and radio talk. Tenchu’s atmosphere blew me away, and the concept of playing a ninja as an actual stealth assassin instead of a comic book superhero hadn’t been touched at the time. Still has one of the best soundtracks gaming has seen too.
I didn’t lock it to anything. Original comment was Metal Gear birthed stealth. Wolfenstein came before it 2d wise and Tenchu 3d.
That comment made me think he was referring to the 3d aspect.
You are talking about the old ass Apple II Wolfenstein, leading stick figures though a badly drawn maze in glorious 4 color CGA or monochrome green.
Of you want Wolfenstein to take that prize so badly, go for it.
If transmog is gone this is shitty as fuck.
Og Wolfenstein is stealth the way ET for the 2600 is survival horror.
