Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

Seriously wish the 8 bit character shit would die already. How can the rest of the game look so damn good and these fucks thought making the playable character look like shit was a good idea. Metroidvanias as a whole needs to go into hibernation and not wake up.

If anyone has been putting it off in hopes of a price drop.

yeah that’s an odd thing… the rest of that game La Mulana 2 (I didn’t even know there was a part 1) looks great…but the main character looks graphically out of place…it’s like an 8-bit character somehow starring in a 16-bit game world…that’s strange, in a bad way.

*Tina Fey and Amy Poehler —woooo yes I’d still love to be the meat in THAT sandwich anyday, yes yes lawd :flushed:

Tina Fey is ridiculously cute imo. Poehler not so much but I do find most things she’s in entertaining. I loved her cartoon “The Mighty B!” that was on nickelodeon. The voice cast for that show was great. Also I loved her when she played one of the twin siblings in Blades of Glory along side Will Arnett (her at the time husband)

In some cases (by all mean not all just some) these types of games are aiming less toward commercial appeal and more toward a vision of its creators.

It could be the head guys involved really loved the retro games from the NES and before and are trying to recreate something similar. It could also be that their budget is only so much, so to save on cash and development the detailed graphics went to static aesthetics and only certain bosses. In either case, the style worked well enough on the original which initially looked like a retro Pit Fall but was redone with this style of retro protagonist and 16-bit or above graphical flourishes.

I frankly have no interest but it seems a fun enough game for those that want the exploration platformer experience.

La Mulana isn’t a metroidvania.

It literally says it is in its description, bruv.

It’s a misleading description people slap on any 2D open world game to snatch up suckers and idiots who apply that term to again, anything open world and 2D.

It’s become a marketing term for the lazy.

Then that’s just deceitful and false advertising. Which is fucked up.

Like Nintendo calling smash a fighter in their eShop.

Also side note: I hate Chris Pratt but this gif is definitely one of the better reaction gifs out there.

Well I fucking hate the term for a reason. La Mulana series is a platforming and puzzle game…like heavy emphasis on puzzles. Platforming is also really important to due to fall dsmage. Its really really easy to fall too far and die.

Metroidvania barely have puzzles and never have fall damage, platforming was trivialized at the birth of the “metroidvania” because it inhibited exploration. No exp mechanics in La Mulana, no gear, list goes on.

This is almost tantamount to calling Deus Ex a DOOM clone.

Yeah. I can see that. Lol. Like I get annoyed when people call the Legend of Zelda series an RPG. I get why they would call it that and think it is one but it’s not.

I beat dmcv a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. Enjoyed the story, combat and the graphics. Capcom really did a good job on the animations in this game. I do see how people could complain about the later sections of the game looking samey. Actually going to attempt to try it on a harder difficulty to unlock more moves and get better. Having never really officially played DMC4 fully, when I got to Dante his move set and stuff he could do at any point was completely overwhelming! I’m a bit better now at it but I’m nowhere near fluid with him.

I really want to try Sekiro, watched a compilation of people who got the the ‘Woooo’ guy and found it hilarious.

Look up a few posts! It’s on sale (almost $20 off) @ Newegg when you use a code. Free shipping too!

Edit: fuck it I’ll just repost it since it kinda got burying due to topic hopping

Scooped up Blaster Master Zero 1&2. This is gonna be awesome. Big fan of the first Blaster Master and a fan of this developer to. I’ve played a decent amount of the first Zero but didn’t finish so will be fun seeing the stuff I missed the first time. Tried a bit of the second one already just see what it’s like and damn it really looks like they just build on where they left off in 1. Super cool.

I’m going rant a bitch a little because this is kind of video game relevant.

Summary

r/amiibo is fucking toxic as shit. They constantly celebrate people ripping people off when they don’t know the value of something in the second hand market (LetGo, Merci, EBay, thrift stores etc), celebrate being dicks to employees at places that sell amiibo because they think they’re entitled to that amiibo because someone wasn’t paying attention and put it out too early, and constantly bitching about shipment issues. Which while this one can be a problem like 95+% of the subreddit is out of box collectors anyways so they’re just using fake outrage to farm karma. Even then the damage is t that bad, maybe a bent corner or some of the plastic is caved it or the store used too big of a box to ship it in. Stupid shit like this.

Yet. They become foaming at the mouth angry when people try to “scalp” people because those people selling those amiibo on the secondary market due know the value of them. If they don’t there are multiple ways to found out what the current pricing trend for that amiibo is (sales history of that item on eBay, looking at the average of prices on amazon…etc). Like people are upset over people making money. Yet they aren’t blaming the people that are the actual problem.

One of the problems is Nintendo who constantly and purposely make amiibo limited ran items. They do this because they busted their own economic bubble when it came to amiibo due to the disastrous Animal Crossing wave. That wave was ordered in MASS quantities because Nintendo assured retailers that they would sell due to how hot amiibo were selling at time. While they were right, the reason they sold so well was because there were multiple softwares that suppprted the amiibo that have came out up until that time. This wasn’t the case for the Animal Crossing line. They released an EXTREMELY shitty amiibo based animal crossing board game…game for the Wii U that didn’t sell (well, I bought a copy because it came with at the time exclusive amiibo. I drunkenly played it with friends the night I bought it and traded it in the next day). And they didn’t add amiibo support to New Lead on 3DS til almost two years after the AC amiibo line dropped.

Obviously retailers were pissed and lost faith in the product due to it not moving. Many of them were forced to sell them to places like 5 and Below for pennies, put them on huge clearance sales, or zero them out and donated them to local goodwills (seriously)

While the amiibo are a hot commodity again thanks to the Switch, smash ultimate and a few other titles people are starting to show a little faith again but keeping Nintendo at arms length usually only selling amiibo online or in in extremely limited quantities at their brick and mortar stores. Exclusives still happen as well due there still being a market for amiibo. The Diablo 3 Goblin and the praise the sun dude from dark souls are the best examples. All of the restocks they have been doing since March of last year have all been store exclusives as well.

The other problem is the community themselves which they fail to realize. They are the ones setting the pace and the prices in the second hand market. If people are willing to play $40 for an amiibo guess how much resellers are going sell him for? Are some of the prices absolutely ridiculous? Absolutely. The boxboy amiibo goes for $250-$400 depending on if it’s by itself or bundled with the trilogy. That’s fucking mind blowing and ridiculous. No piece of plastic is worth that much…yet, the customers in the market think it is because they keep selling.

Amiibo secondary market is no different than any other secondary market. The most similar I can think of is retro gaming collecting. Are those games like earthbound really worth $150+? To me. No. To A LOT of people, yes. It is. So it will continue to sell that much. That’s just how a market and economy work.

Every company ever is “scalping” you. You really think box of cereal took $4-5 to make? Naw. Probably took them pennies. They mark it up to make money. You think that arcade stick you bought from Hori took $159+ to make? Naw. Probably about $20. This goes for literally EVERY business. When your mom and pop stores, bulk stores, farmers market. EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE is going to charge you more than what the product is worth or more than what they invested their time and money in to make more money.

The amiibo community fail to see that.

Sorry. I didn’t mean to go on a huge rant and bitch but I’ve worked for secondary market jobs pretty much my whole life up until Walmart so I understand how their ecosystems/economy whatever you want to call it work. Some people get it and some people don’t.

Like whenever people think their comics from the 60’s or 90’s are worth something because they’re old. Naw, age doesn’t really mean anything. It all matters on appearances, storylines, deaths, stuff like that.

With trading card game the economy is based on the current meta or expecting what the meta will become.

Etc.

Iunno. Again. Sorry. Just need to get this off my chest

I spoilers it because it’s kind of a wall of text. Sorry.

Gunna finally play Crafted world and relax in a land of cuteness.

Lol amiibos.

I don’t know if you could’ve stressed over something more worthless but that’s pretty up there.
