Kind of disappointed there’s no spear/naginata user in SamSho.

Top 8 is going to be awkward as fuck.
Like…on one hand its going to be interesting because top 8 for a game that new will literally come down to 100% skill gaps between players.
On the downside I guarantee no one is going to have a full grasp of their character or the games subsystem which will make the game come off as boring and will not attract players to play, let alone watch.
Eh trust me it would be MORE likely to do that once everyone gets the game down. SamSho is many things, but generally it’s not spectator friendly. It’s part of the reason that SNK is going even harder with the stylized effects and such. It’s to offset how SamSho generally plays. Slow, deliberate, pokes are king.
They already did that with BBTag. not really new territory.

Starlink fucking bombed because they said the dreaded phrase “toys to life” at E3 when they debuted it. They mentioned later in the presentation (I think even in the same breath) that the content the toys provided would also be purchasable digitally but it fell on deaf ears. The nail in the coffin was already spiked.
Not even partnering with Nintendo could save it from a quick yet painful death.
It’s why the Arwing version tanked from $75 to $25 within months of release. It’s why pretty much every major retailer clearanced out the toys or just said “fuck it” and zero’ed then out shortly after launch as well.
Also, being totally honest here. The only reason amiibo survived the “toys to life” genocide is because they aren’t exactly “toys to life” figures. Nintendo has been very careful to not market or label them as such. That and 100% brand recognition, popularity and reputation.
The majority of people who buy amiibo buy them because they see them as a collectors item of their favorite character(s). Like for instance some collectors only collect self imposed “subsets”. For instance they have collected every Legend of Zelda amiibo or every Metroid amiibo or every Splatoon amiibo so on and so forth. The fact they do stuff in certain games is irrelevant to most amiibo collectors. Though it’s is appreciated when there is amiibo functionality for the amiibo they own for a game they play.
I know I personally don’t give fuck about their functionality. I buy amiibo cause I’m forever a slave to Nintendo.
I want to scoop the Star Link Arwing…only thing about the game I really care about.

That’s why I bought it. I got it for less than $25 through work. Kept the arwing and threw everything else in the trash.

Of the arwing? The sculpt it fine for the most part. It’s not flimsy or anything. I wish it had come with a stand though.
Oh, right. I kept the little Star Fox figure it came with too.

Like, is anyone really expecting any sort of specific, flashy tech from a SamSho game?
Remember the Yoshitora/Kusaregedo match up where the optimal way to play is for both characters to down back at round start and hope for the other guy to poke, because it’s so hard for either character to regain a life lead.
There’s that one famous match in Japan with that match up where one of the players was smoking while the other was eating a rice bowl during the match.
