Modern Nintendo knows the power of waifu /husbando culture, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Bayonetta and heaven help us even Pokemon fandoms are proof of that. So Nak or even Athena being a pick would make sense as they also haven’t had a female DLC besides Kazooie.
But Nakoruru would be cool as she has a diverse and unique move set over the years. Besides the pet hawk, one of her alternate forms used to have a large wolf she could ride as well.
Nakoruru has a strong chance, she is like a national moe symbol on japan.
In fact she was like the 1st character for what the moe term was coined.
Even after years without a samsho she has remained popular.
The only other snk char with such strong cultural impact over there is Athena.

cheh, the first character I think of for SNK after all these years is still Terry Bogard; so if it’s an “iconic” status character I’d bet it’s him.
I checked my stats on xb1 version Diablo 3… so I’m up to 816 hours played on just that version (at that level of hours spent it displays the time in days, actually…so it really shows up as “34 days…” for time spent 
Well, this dethrones Phantasy Star Online/Universe for sure at this point…back in the Gamecube version I remember having 450-ish hours on just my main character. The stats keeps track of monsters killed too—in D3 on xbox 1 I’ve killed a bit over 1 million now…41,000+ elites.

SNK already used the Terry cameo card in Fighting Layer EX, so I’m guessing they’ll use some other character for Smash.
