Shaolin Monks is amazing fun. Easily one of the best beatemups released. I’m still looking foward to the sequel that we will likely never get and everytime Boon mentions that game in any capacity I feel like he’s fucking with me.
What is the cutoff between the “classic fgc” (not sure what to call it) and the beginning of the “dark age” (of fighting games)?
Sf3:NG?
I thought he was part of some Tekunin clan with air ships. Regardless, I always preferred Mustard over Ketchup. That punk isn’t worthy of the title of Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.
P.S. There was no fighting game dark age.
Whoever it was that NRS outsourced to help port MK11 over to the switch seems to have done a pretty good job. Very interested to hear DF’s thoughts whenever they put out a vid.
Johnny Cage somehow still the best thing about this series lol.
I didn’t miss him in MK3 or UMK3. I don’t think I ever had any interest in Johnny until MK11.
Cool
Planning on getting MK11 through Redbox to see if I can complete the story mode in a day, then I might buy it (you had to beat the story mode in MKX to unlock Shinnok I believe).
In the US it’d be 3S since that was the last Capcom release to make it to US arcades before they died.
In Japan they didnt really have a dark age. Although using the year that Evo switched to consoles would probably be a better marker. That cemented the transition from arcade days to the new console overlords.
I’d personally say it was after MvC2 and CvS2. These were the last hurrahs of Capcom as the big 2D fighting game developer/publisher. Meanwhile, ArcSys had yet to truly establish themselves as GGX had just come out.
Capcom dropping the ball with CFAS and CFJ is what basically ended things for a lot of people.
Sektor formed the Tekunin after Sub-Zero kicked his ass to become grandmaster. Sektor was grandmaster in the time between MK4 and Deadly Alliance.
What race is Shao Khan?
That’s how I feel every time the new games callback to shoalin monks. A chapter in the new game is dedicated to it. It’s not fair.
I forget but I remember he was apart some half dragon race.
The sentient race, you bigot.

According to the MK wiki Shao Khan is a fallen god who had been originally been given the mantle of protector of outworld. He was Onaga’s advisor and main general as well. He ended up murdering Onaga before Onaga could discover the secret to immortality. By Shao Khan killing Onaga he claimed the throne thus giving up his mantle as protector of Outworld and falling out of favor with the gods to rule out world and attempt to rule all realms instead.
You’re thinking of the Shokan. I.E. Goro, Sheeva, Kitaro. Who are half human half dragons native to outworld.
I know thats supposed to be i.e. Goro, but Le Goro would be such a sick alt. Just give him a pencil moustache and a beret. Have his projectiles look like crepes.
Would bet Giro rocks a bow tie and suit jacket better then every other male character in the cast. The question is do you give him pants or not?
Lol pants.
Mans is gonna go in his tighty whities with the hariest man bush.
