I had too many issues with CC. I had NONE with CT. I swear to God, I went through all of CC without FAQs, and got ZERO tri-attacks. That game had so many characters, and few of them went well with each other. I seriously couldn’t tell you the names of more than 2 people in that game, and that’s with wikipedia. In CT, I can describe the entire fucking game. Characters, locations, events, songs, whatever. EVERY character in CT could combine for dual or tri attacks. In CC, you had to find fucking matches. Each character had a great story, and mattered.
The problem is CC was a standalone game. It was a fucking text adventure game (Radical Dreamers) that got converted into the nightmare known as Chrono Cross, and loosely tied into Chrono Trigger. It was nothing more than a side story, that they decided needed to be made into a full on game for some reason. It wasn’t an actual sequel to Chrono Trigger. CC took a few elements from CT, gave it the RD story, and said “yeah, thats a sequel”, and for like two fucking decades, I have said “no, no it is not.” CC should never have been a sequel to CT, it should have been it’s own game, or marketed/advertised as a side adventure instead of a sequel.
I want Square to announce a new Chrono game with Chrono, Marle, Lucca, Robo, Anya, Frog, Magus, all those mother fuckers, and some new people. Not a sequel with none of those characters, and 50 clowns I don’t give a fuck about.
Also, Chrono was a fucking pimp, and had pussy getting tossed at him left and right. Anybody in CC like that? Chrono had a princess, a nerdy bff, a horny cavegirl, and space age future pussy, all getting thrown at him, and he just perservered. I need my main protagonist to be like him, or more precisely, to fucking BE HIM.
I think Chrono was still more interesting than most modern videogame protagonists.
It really is cool how Chrono Trigger could maintain a tone of lighthearted fun while dealing with some fairly heavy ideas at times. And I’m not trying to present it as some kind of deep social commentary by any means but I think it does represent a tone that I’m not sure Square could capture today.
I love Chrono Trigger but Chrono basically only did one thing in the game that gave him any personality. If anything the character’s around him are the interesting ones.
Haha, well it was more a dig at modern game protagonists than a celebration of Chrono’s personality. I’d take a silent protagonist over the asshole from Watch Dogs any day.
holy shit I just tuned in for the Nintendo thing…just in time to see some amazing shit with Mario Maker… this needs Jim Ross + Jerry Lawler live commentary, folks.
These plays, lawd have mercy…this man just had The Shoe AND the floating Koopa clown car contraption along with fire flower power at the same time.
