Maybe we just gotta wait till KOF 16 for the transition to pay off. It’s been kind of like that for awhile with KOF, one good game then one bad game loop.
I know I’m late. One of my co workers told me next gen KOF was announced at TGS, nigga had me hype as fuck all day to see what kind of greatness SNK cooked up.

Really nigga? OK, ok. To be fair with all the recent doom and gloom I believe they just want to get it out there that a new KOF is on the way and what we saw doesn’t represent nor is it a finalized product. At least that’s what I’m going with. Then again… KOF12 exist. BUT… this time they’re working in full 3D, I’m sure they’ll have something better to show off in the future. This is just a “get it out there” announcement is all.
I don’t mean to sound negative or insult anyone by saying this, but I’m surprised the KOF14 teaser and the idea of a new Darkstalkers are getting 9001% the attention KOF13 or Vsav ever did. If either game ends up being good I hope they get the attention and longevity they deserve as it’s a bit disheartening to see games like SF4 and UMVC3 break record numbers at EVO, then people complain about modern fighting games sucking while they ignore stuff like KOF13 or VF5FS.
Sure Capcom might fuck up a new Darkstalkers should it ever happen, but whether they do or not we still have Vsav one of the greatest fighting games ever made IMO. As for KOF13 there was a little attention at the start, but any small scene for it died fast in NY at least, so I fear even if KOF14 ends up being good it will suffer the same fate just for not being a Capcom game, but hey GG seems to be poppin so maybe there’s hope for the SNKP franchise too.
The FGC has this weird Love/Hate relationship with Street Fighter
Street Fighter II the World Warrior made the fighting game genre and forever sets the bar for fighting games.
Street Fighter IV and all it’s various incarnations sets the bar for modern fighters.
I feel the Street Fighter series is to the FGC like that derpy family member that is a embarrassment to you and you treat them like shit.
But god forbid anyone else talks shit about them in front of you or mistreat them, you go and kick their ass in the deference of your Derpy family member.
He/She is your derpy sibling/cousin/what-ever and only you get to pick on him or her.
SNK was the only Company that got close to the juggernaut that was Capcom Fighters.
SNK was great until 9197 when they first discontinued the MVS hardware and in 1998 when their successor to the MVS system the Hyper Neo Geo 64 failed SNK was barely afloat.
SNK was bankrupted and almost got dissolved. It didn’t hep their US partners completely mismanaged the whole NEO GEO Brand.
When the whole atomiswave (Sammy/Sega) thing came in and SNK fought for for independence from Aruze and restructured as SNK Playmore they was already doomed.
After the atomiswave, SNK P shifted over to the Tatio X2 hardware (owned by Tatio/Square Enix).
Yes they had a few good hits afterwards, they extend the life of the MVS system alot more, finally discontinuing hardware support in 2007.

I liked KOF XII. The graphics whore in me couldn’t get mad at the games’ faults. I liked the counter mechanic as well. shrugs
XIV just looks BAD. There are other games that look better in the pre-alpha stage that are getting ripped apart. The thread in FGD is lol.
I think of the SF series as more of the family member who I was really close with for most of my life but recently they’ve fallen on hard times and continue to make bad choices that’s starting to affect my life. In this context we can say that capcom is the person that made them start fucking up.
As much as I love JoJo’s I really disliked the demo for this, I’ll probably pick it up when it’s cheap just to own it.
