The Robin being Tim in the DLC is throwing my continuity senses into a bind. DLC is pre-Asylum and Babs was active as Batgirl when Tim became Robin so when the hell did she get shot? Also Tim is wearing his AK costume when he had a different one in City.
That can be said about a lot of Batman’s supporting cast. Who outside of comic book nerds would know of Jason Todd? Under the Red Hood movie is the first time the character been adapted and that was direct to video. I’m sure the general public doesn’t there’s been 4 Robins and 4 Batgirls but they’ll never know since adaptions keep using Dick (sometimes Tim) and Babs.
I’ve never played the Arkham games outside of an Arkham City demo. And just because mythology references and gags exist doesn’t mean everybody gets them or understands their significance. Those are generally meant for people already in the know.
I’ve never really given a shit about comic books and whatnot. Aside from Joker, Riddler, Freeze, Poison Ivy, Harley, Gordon, and Alfred, I never knew any other Batman characters until I played some Arkham games. And the ones I do know were from a few episodes of that really popular batman cartoon, and the really shitty batman films with god damn George Clooney and the Terminator.
I’ve mentioned this before in Smash IRC, but I think I’ve much given up on Nintendo getting any type of solid 3rd party support at the moment. It really doesn’t matter how powerful their new console is because they’re too deep into the perpetual loop at the moment that it’s going to take probably a decade to out do it…and that’s probably being generous and even if Nintendo is willing to put forth the effort, money, and gamble to make it out of the cycle. They’ve already started going out of their comfort zone a bit and haven’t seen returns on it. If they want to try to forcibly break the cycle they’d have to do very little of their main staples and come out with a bunch of new IP’s that consumers of the other consoles are more likely to purchase…and it’d have to be consistent. They’d pretty much have to completely throw away the backbone support of their loyal fanbase and try to take a leap of faith, just for the possibility of people to not buy the system for said games anyway and for the 3rd parties to jump ship. I da know about you guys but even if I have a strong dislike for the hardcore Nintendo fanbase it sounds like business suicide to do something like that.
I’d like for them to keep doing what they’re doing with the partnerships and giving money to 3rd parties to make games for them since in the long run I think it will work but it’s going to be slow and steady process…one that I hope they don’t get discouraged by the initial results.
