I thought the only lag was 1 frame if you’re playing on the game pad screen, and it was only an issue for one console. Haven’t heard much else but haven’t checked either.
Got stuck within the first 10 minutes. That’s a new record. So much for exploring every nook and cranny.
I got the Morph Ball, then remembered there was a spot near the beginning where I’d be able to use said ability. I backtracked and did so, figuring I’d continue forward after I checked that area out. And got stuck there, since in order to get through the door that’s in there, you need the missiles, which I hadn’t gotten yet. And you can’t get out without the item you get from that area, which as mentioned, I couldn’t get to because I didn’t have the missiles…
Fortunately I also got a save point not too far from there so it wasn’t a huge loss. Just didn’t think something like that would happen with a game that people sequence break all the time.
The doorway leads to an area with another door that couldn’t be opened unless I had missiles. I shot at every square inch of that area and found nothing. The only potential way was wall-jumping up that narrow passageway to the left (where I came through), and morph-balling back through, but I couldn’t get that to work. The path to the right was impassable unless I had the Morph Bombs…which I couldn’t get unless I had gotten the missiles earlier.
Was there a way out without missiles or morph bombs that I’m not aware of? 'Cause the only possible way out otherwise that I saw was the wall-jump thing I mentioned, which I couldn’t get to work.
Oh god you would be so stuck before the internet was common place. With Walkthoughs, FAQs and Lets Plays.
I remember back in the days when you were playing Metroid or Legend of Zelda you would have a note book or graph paper with you and you drew maps and took notes as you went along.
For games like Metroid and Kid Icarus on the NES you also had to write down your passwords to “save” your progress.
And the following days, at the school year you ask your class mates where they find X or how to get to Y.
The SNES day were slightly better, but not by much. You had one friend in the neighborhood who lucky enough to have a Nintendo Power subscription and you study his magazines when you are over his house like you were reading the dead seas scrolls. Metroid is very much a exploration game. You obviously missed the bomb, you even come across a missile tank on the way. After picking up the bomb you have your first boss battle.
Well, usually whenever I get a new ability, I backtrack to the areas I’ve already been to find any new stuff before continuing on the forward path. So once I got the Morph Ball, I thought I’d go back and see what new areas I could access. That part was one of them, as I had remembered noticing it at the start. I do that all the time in Zelda, and that’s what I did in the Batman games.
I didn’t think it’d be possible to get stuck so I thought it’d be find to do that. Apparently I was wrong. 100% my fault, I just find it funny that with my luck I ran into that so early on.
I’m already way past that part now, just thought it’d be a funny story to share.
Yeah, once I found that wall-jumping was available from the start, I began looking for any opportunity to abuse it. Only thing that’s stopping me is that, at the moment, areas where I can use wall-jumping to get to seem blocked off by other means (there’s an area at the beginning near Samus’ ship, over to the right, but after wall-jumping up and traveling back down again, the door I found was barred by a green barrier). I’m sure I’ll find the first opportunity to sequence break soon though.
That would have been a hell of a wall jump maneuver. Then again… that was a hell of a way to get stuck in the first 10 minutes of the game. I made it a couple of hours at least, before I had to backtrack via wall jump. Which took an hour in itself.
