Video Game General 3.0 - You know what should come back? Pre-rendered backgrounds!

SFxT has the best Juri. Respect.

On top of the fact that it queues your inputs so mashing is a no-no.

Souls games controls are fine. It’s just not like most current gen games that allow you to just mash on buttons or blindly do shit and have it just work.

Once you realize this you find the souls games aren’t all that hard. Game just rewards you for playing smart and punishes you hard for trying to blindly mash.

As someone who was as far away from Final Fantasy as you can get growing up, Even I played the hell out of it and think it’s pretty good. And I disapprove this.

I think the make or break decision of this game will be what Cloud are we getting. In FF7 he was pretty sarcastic, especially to Barrett. In Crisis Core he was a pretty good mix but wasn’t the main character. But in Advent Children he was too emo. IDK about him in any Kingdom Hearts games because I’m not anime enough. What Cloud is gonna be the Cloud that can make this remake whole?

Spoiler

Troy Baker most likely

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU

I have a gut feeling Cloud is going to be given a personality similar to Lightening.

I can already see the oceans of salt from here.

I agree. You got to think your way though, sometimes memorize the area, find the pattern like a Shmup game.

You aren’t heavily penalized for dying ether, so it encourages you to take different approaches (sometimes it’s trail and error) until you find one that works for you and your character build.

Lightning’s personality/character was based on Cloud lol.

That’s why I think they’re gonna be similar. I don’t think he’s gonna have a personality similar to how he was in the original game. If anything I guarantee you it’ll be closest to Advent Children.

Of course, everyone will probably be completely surprised by this once the game actually drops.

NIGGA NO.

Maybe stupid ass, modern, emo Cloud. But Cloud as he was in the original FFVII was not a whiny douche.

He had ONE MOMENT of depression and snapped out of it in one scene. OG Cloud was a world weary dude with the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he never let it get to him.

Fuckin’ rookies… I know more about your shitty game and its characters than you do…

Goddamn Lightning… Get the fuck outta here.

So…yeah. Based on Cloud. Which is what he said. Modern or not lol.

I also find it ironic and hilarious at the same you take such pride in knowing more about a game you hate than someone who’s never even beaten FFVII (me). Bravo my boy, you get a Megaman sticker.

Cloud in drag had more of a womanly figure than Lightning did.

Martian how you gonna disagree with that

You ol pancake butt loving motherfucker

Steve Burton most likely.

Yea exactly, and if you know what you’re doing that queuing system is fucking awesome.

I don’t see Cloud as Emo. Cloud isn’t a whiny emo douche.
Cloud is weary of the world and suffering from PTSD and Associative disorder. Cloud has less in common with Squall and more in common with Wolverine (minus the berserker rage).
Cloud and Zack was running as fugitives, Zack being Cloud’s mentor and superior. And Cloud looked up to Zack.
Cloud unable to do anything due to Mako poisoning watched Zack got killed, this was enough to break Cloud enough were he adopts Zack’s personality and even part of his history.
I agree Cloud got depressed and have every right in the world to be depressed. Besides the PTSD, he saw Aerith got impaled by his arc-nemesis, found out he has no family, and did not realize his past life was a lie.

Cloud was a dude who seen too much action and just stopped giving a fuck. He didn’t care that Shinra was destroying the world, as long as he got his pay.
It’s as the story progressed that Cloud pulls himself together (with help of Tifa) mans the fuck up and grows as a person.

And that’s just from the FF7 story line, I didn’t even went into his story in Crisis Core.

I don’t need to pull out any of my fancy sociological data to say that it’s a fact the experiences people have during childhood have big obvious and subtle influences on who they are as an adult. The most often observed difference between gamers who grew up with Atari/NES/GEN/SNES and those who grew up with Xbox/GC/PS2 is that the former group was thrown to the wolves as far as difficulty and intuitiveness go, we had little to no options besides figuring it out for ourselves which forced us to rise to the level of the game, at best during the mid 90’s you MIGHT have had a help line to call for some random tip on how to beat a level or an older friend/sibling to get you through it. The latter group had the opposite experience as gaming became a more mainstream business, games started getting easier including tutorials, more explanations, the inernet of course, and in general more options available so this group was not forced to evolve and endure, instead the opposite happened where the games sunk to the level of the gamer thus reinforcing the idea to this group that they don’t have to try hard to succeed the game will hold their hand. So gamers of this group largely embraced the more forgiving option and this downward slope has continued ever since, although if you view this as a negative impact on gamer culture the silver lining here is there has been some push back in recent years as some gamers grew tired of not having their potential awakened by games which is why you see the success of Souls series and ball punchingly hard indies like Hotline Miami.I could write a thesis on this topic as I barely scratched the surface, hell the “Teens react to NES” video while anecdotal evidence at best serves as an accurate sample size to the difference in tastes the different gaming generations have so in a nutshell…you asked a stupid question you should already know the answer to lol.

And as for your second point, all I really have to say in response is there are many young gamers out there who enjoy games from the early consoles so like most things it’s not so black and white. Speaking for myself I started gaming on the NES when I was 3 in 1991, but my love of the hobby didn’t really flourish until I got a Genesis when I was 4 (dad bought it for $200 at a phone company store think it was Bell Atlantic) and then my older family friend got a PC and had the King’s Quest series and that really opened my eyes to how powerful narrative and plot in a game could be, until then I neverk new story or characters or any of that even existed, and it had such an impact on me that it’s the reason why I love plot heavy games more than most SRK’ers it’s not always all about game play mechanics it just depends what mood I’m in.

DS mimmicks weapon weight and heft better than any game I’ve ever played so you thinking the input response is shitty is actually you expecting a 200 pound sword the size of your leg to be as easy to handle as an empty can of soda.

Well, we can add Metroid: Fusion to the list of games I’ve completed. First Metroid game I’ve played too.

While I’m at it I should finish Kingdom Hearts II. Then perhaps I can start Super Metroid.

Square-Enix doesn’t make women like they used to.
