Video Game General 2.0: Yo Dawg I Heard You Like Remasters And Ports

Sarangha said it the best. He said something like : “Shenmue is a spiritual experience”. That is EXACTLY what it is !
Tell me another videogame that can have such a impact on your body and soul. o … ooo wait… hahahhhahahahah there is no other videogame!

y’all nubz keep on hating tho :coffee:

MGS, which did the cinematic gaming experience first and with better fighting mechanics. You guys can love Shenmue all you want, I don’t care, but being assholes about it isn’t exactly endearing people to check the game out.

MGS didn’t do shit and if you seriously think MGS has good fighting mechanics then you are on some serious crack.
Also i’m not trying to convince/make any1 get into the Shenmue series. If you after all this time have yet to play a Shenmue game then you don’t deserve to play 1 either.

Highly doubt it. I also know you’re not gonna verify the validity of these statements due to the ramifications at hand. :nono:

And I think Shenmue didn’t do shit and had shit everything. Opinions are great aren’t they?
Stop acting like an asshole because people don’t like the game you like.

Those two games are nothing alike. Shenmue isn’t about being a cinimatic experience.

^ good for you

It is one, not 1. If you want to verbally assault someone while sounding intelligent, at least put effort into it.

General fighting mechanics, not choking out. The gun and weapon systems worked well and served a purpose. The combat in Shenmue was limited and felt more tacked on than anything else. I would have much preferred if they made them a cinematic thing, and simply focused on the story aspect and exploration.

I am not ignorant on Shenmue, I enjoyed the game. I just don’t lick the sack of a dead franchise that ruined it’s creators cred with the poor sales of Shenmue 2 and stupid plots for Shenmue 3. SEGA sees no financial point in doing it, and don’t seek to work with Yusuki if they do.

Do what I did with Starfox and F-Zero: Get over it and don’t be a bitch.

Fact: If you like Shenmue, but hate David Cage’s games you are a hypocrite, yes Shenmue has actual fighting, but it’s still a very QTE heavy and story based game that has cringe worthy over expository dialogue most of the time. You spend a lot more time doing simulation type shit in Shenmue 1 than you do in any David Cage game.

I get liking the story, but the actual game play and dialogue cancel that out

Never forget:

I dont like David Cage games cuz they playlike Shenmue aka they play like a 15 year old game that was trying to do something new at the time. Shenmue gets a pass because of the context of when they came out, crappy David Cage games do not because they feel they have failed to improve upon something done 15 years ago. If Shenmue came out now and played like it did then, i’d call it crap to cuz history marches on and the flaws i excused Shenmue of having then i wouldnt excuse it for having now.

Stop trying to make me sound like a hypocrite because i dont like David Cages crap, thanks.

Fighting mechanics = Hand 2 hand combat

Your post makes no sense to me and i’m not being verbally offensive.
Also… It is 1 , not one. Just because i said so and because grammarnazis can EAD.

People are shitting on Shenmue…I have loss all faith in SRK.

So both games share the same flaws yet you give one a pass because it did it first? Yeah that seems to fit the very definition of hypocrisy. I’m not saying I care if anyone likes or dislikes Shenmue or any of Cage’s games, just that the double standard and notstalgia glasses are quite obviously in full effect whether you admit it or not. To further illustrate this fact not opinion. Goldeneye 007 was one of the first if not the first very popular console FPS if I’m not mistaken, yet it had some of the worst hitbox colission detection in any FPS I’ve ever played. Sure at the time it was GDLK, but standards and tastes change over time just like people, so that is why most people like myself who loved Goldeneye don’t play it today.

I like Shenmue, but I’m not going to deny that it had some objectively serious flaws. and that’s not to say that there is anything wrong with loving a game that has serious issues, but some of you are being very disingenous about your love for some aspects of it.

SenninSRK is in your camp…that should tell you enough =P

Noi dislike because i think timing and context are important. Its 15 years later and Cage games are making the same mistake Shenmue did back in the day, but the concept was new are refreshing and thus made it easier to forgive its flaws. Its years later now, his games shouldnt be doing the same shit wrong but they are so they arent going to get a pass for it, not fro me they wont anyway. I can be honest about Shenmue and its flaws, but it was an innovative game at thetime, and we where still learning what worked and what didnt at the time. We are now at a point where we understand a lot of tha kind of stuff doesnt work, but hes still doing it anyway.

Using your Goldeneye example if somone released an FPS that played like Goldeneye today it would be rightfully shit on. What worked then doesn’t work now.

.

I lost faith on srk when sfxt was considered an ok game

Shenmue was an amazing achievement when it came out almost 15 years ago and introduced/refined a bunch of concepts which have proceeded to have been copied by games to this very day for example a day/night system with dynamic weather, Quick time events (which while it was not the first game to use with it dating back to games like Dragon’s Lair, it was the title to popularise it in the gaming mainstream and was the first game to coin the term as the “Quick Time Event”), NPC scheduling, full voice acting with tons of actors and a very detailed open world (albeit a small one). On top of visuals that were far ahead of other games at the time it was a groundbreaking title.

That being said I would sadly be lying if I said it had aged well, the pacing is horrifically slow along with a lot of unnecessary tedium that comes due to the game being so extreme in it’s design decisions such as certain people/areas/events being restricted to certain times of day or days/dates with no ability to skip time forward, repetitive forklift segments and no fast travel system.
There are also a lot more issues with the game that have become apparent with it’s age, the combat while detailed and has a lot of customisation is very clunky by today’s standards with upgrading moves being a dull grind, moving Ryo around can be pretty awkward since the game uses a variation of tank controls, the voice acting is hilariously bad along with the game’s sound files being noticeably compressed due to the very small space limitations of Dreamcast CD’s of which the game already takes up 3 + 1 bonus disc (the soundtrack is still tits though) and the story is extremely slow, with a hilariously robotic lead in Ryo, a tacked on love interest, awkward pacing and was clearly designed to be part one of a much larger story that was never finished.

So yeah I love Shenmue, but I have to admit the game has serious problems, that being said the reason I still do love it despite these problems is because of how innovative it was, how it tried something different to other games at the time and in a lot of areas succeeded in doing so and how a lot of concepts originating or refined by it would go on to help shape a lot of games in the future.

…So um anyway about that E3 show coming up soon then.

If you think shenmue is exactly like a David cage game then you don’t know what you’re talking about, or you have a weaker knowledge of the neurological aspects of images

SFXT was ok though it was probably the best Capcom fighter since CVS2 whos gonna raise their hand and say its better than ultimate this normal has no hurtbox 3, or don’t get knocked down 4.

That’s not really a knock against SF4, being knocked down should be a huge ass disadvantage in fighting games.

I’m just now seeing that “Everything wrong with Resident Evil 6”. My God. Shang Tsung couldn’t have jacked CinemaSins that hard.
