Video Game Confessions

I got SSF4 solely for Juri

Ouch. I bought three copies of that one used at Gamestop and then made millions on ebay. I played it for a bit to see what the fuss was about. Nothing special, just a wad of cash.

Let’s see, another confession… I bought a GBA. And an SP. And a DS. And then I quit drinking heavily and found jesus (he was hanging with Waldo) and also bought a PSP.

Who else has wasted a small fortune on shitty Nintendo “upgrades?”

Time to take things in a nice and dark direction:

-If it weren’t for video games, I’d most likely be a violent and seriously dangerous person. This great form of entertainment allows me to vent rage and act out all kinds of murderous thoughts. It gives me great pleasure to torture and kill the shit out of these virtual characters all day and all night long, over and over and over again, without any real life legal consequences…it’s awesome. I enjoy talking a little shit to the screen as well, like “yeah bitch, you aint shit. I just crushed your stupid cunt ass. Yeah, now you’re on fire. Burn forever, die 1000 times over. I’ll come to Hell and kill you again and again for all eternity.”

This is why “free-roam”, “sandbox” style games are superior to me, so I can bring the terror anytime I want, for as long as I want, regardless of whatever is going on with the main storyline. Sometimes, I just want to destroy, crush, burn and murder everything in sight. Heh, I just remembered one of the first things I did in Saint’s Row was to play the role of a serial killer…I was sneaking around various buildings, jumping out specifically to kill any of the female NPCs with just the knife. I’d continue stabbing long after they were dead. Any captain save-a-ho niggas that tried to step up would get destroyed too. Fuck that and fuck everybody. Everybody dies.

On another note, there is also “gamer rage”. Yeah, I’ve destroyed a lot of controllers throughout the years.

  • I don’t hate Nomura designs and think most people who do hate on them are doing so to try and be cool and original (see the “blah blah I whine about how FFVII was terrible while I slurp the schlong of overrated games like FFVI” crowd).

  • I don’t really like most FPS games.

  • When I was younger I actually liked Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.

  • When I was younger I still hated Secret of Evermore.

  • I don’t like Bioware games. Any of them. Especially Mass Effect. I do like Bethesda games (Fallout 3/Oblivion/etc.), though.

  • I actually wanted a CD-i back in the day. My dad had the good sense to tell me it sucked.

  • I greatly enjoy Final Fantasy X-2. If not for the goofy storyline it’d be one of the best FF games ever made.

  • I don’t like Persona.

  • I prefer Phantasy Star Online/Phantasy Star Universe to original Phantasy Star.

@million I’m guessing you like Manhunt?

according to the posts in this thread, a lotta ppl feel the same way. I think I mentioned this game in my “confessions” too. and yea, I enjoyed it too. only thing I didn’t like were the requirements to get into the machine(?) costume that took up the whole field. and whenever I got the big machine(?) costume it was disappointing imo.

another confession:

I suck at sports games. I suck so badly that it is possible for me to lose to the demo screen. My pre-programmed response to anything concerning dat’ madden is Fuck you. Prison style. With the cornbread. Bitch. also works for baseball and basketball. if you dare offend my home with a golf game, you will be denied entry.

-Starhammer-

I hate CoD but am pretty ignorant of the game and it’s nuances in general. I have played it enough to know I loathe it, but will admit I have no fair basis with which to base my negative opinion. All I know is I just find it to be a chore to play. Which is really saying something, as I usually get some amusement out of playing even really terrible games (I mean, hey, they’re games after all, no matter how badly they’re designed its hard NOT to have a little fun). But with CoD, I just can’t stand it. shrugs

I’ve had a bunch of different Gameboy upgrades, from the original, to the pocket (Which I broke the screen with a Ric Flair action figure… WOO!), to the color, to the advance, to the advance SP, then to DS and now DS Lite.

I try hard to be at least decent in RTS games, but I can’t micromanage a lot of people at the same time worth a damn, which usually means I spend all of my ingame currency on making one HUGE group made up of different soldiers, vehicles, whatever, and just rush, which ends with me losing my entire group, me being bankrupt and then getting wiped out. Also, it was sad to see my teammates with fucking factories for bases and then look at mine, with maybe 3 people mining for shit, maybe one or two buildings, and me with the lowest damn amount of currency.

I got all the way to the end of Final Fantasy 9 on disc 4, I think, couldn’t beat the boss, gave up, game is lost forever now.

I owned a Virtual Boy and had Mario Tennis… Only to return them both some days later for reasons I can’t remember.

I played Silkroad Online for two years.

I can not get into Ratchet and Clank nor Jak and Daxter.

I have and have played Chrono Cross and did not pass the first island due to being bored to tears and don’t care to play it ever again, but maybe one day I’ll give it another chance.

I’m a trophy whore.

I’ve owned MW2 for about a year now and have never played MP once in any way, but have beaten the SP campaign on Veteran twice and am going back again to find all of the enemy intels.

Seeing Auron alongside Tidus and Wakka in FFX is one of the most painful things I’ve ever seen.

Got a few more, some inspired by other posts here.

-When I was young, I was jealous of other kids because I always had to ask my parents for permission before I played video games.
-Even though I’m posting on a game site (somewhat) and I read video game news, I only play about 1 or 2 non-fighting games per year
-I thought Raiden was a good character in MGS2. I was also pissed when the MGS4 trailer came out and suddenly everyone was acting like they always thought he was cool too.
-I’ve never played a Darkstalkers game! :shake: Noticed the DS4 sig thread and felt ashamed. Not as much of a crime on SRK, but I’ve never played a GTA, Halo, Gears of War, or Call of Duty game either. There are lots of popular series out there that I just have no desire to play for some reason.
-I was a huge strat guide buff when I was a kid. Think I had 4 just for MK4 (ugh). I’m not even sure why I had most of these. Guess I just liked reading about the games and looking at the pictures. It also encouraged me to use bullshit codes and walkthroughs and I ended up experiencing a lot of great games the wrong way. Maybe that’s why I’m not a good general video game player nowadays.
-Similar to above, I always like reading the instruction manual and adjusting the option settings so they’re just right before I play a new game.
-When I first got a stable Internet connection at home, I went through a major game music phase (which I never knew existed as standalone media) where I researched a lot of soundtracks and constantly had my friend burning them since my PC was trash. I did buy a few, including 3S and Soul Calibur 1. I was into game music via sound tests and redbook audio (where a CD player can read music files off a game disc) long before this happened, though.

I never finished Final Fantasy VII, or VI (3, for USA), or even V (2, for USA)

99% of my bro’s Dreamcast games are pirate. To make matters worse, I’ve only played like 5% of them, and both of us have played like 20 minutes combined for like 80% of the games.

I mash 360 for T Hawk in SSF4, but never for any other SF games. Freaking Hawk 360 can break blockstun combos. It’s rediculous.

i got guilty gear 2 overture thinking i’d enjoy it, i didn’t after long. when i first played guilty gear 1 i beat the game with sol by mashing his HS. i beat the game with ky by charging his stun edge, firing it and walking across the screen to follow the fireball and get more hits in.

i dislike final fantasy XII with a passion.

i like to use dark templar in starcraft 2 for shits and giggles.

i never beat any sonic game besides sonic adventure. i only got past angel island in sonic 3

i abused the hell out of the missingno glitch in pokemon blue until my cartridge couldn’t save anymore. i abused the hell out of the gameshark for pokemon silver to get my dream pokemon team. i also abused the hell out of the pokemon cloning glitch. 6 typhlosions w/ master balls ftw.

i love exploiting the shortcut with my friends in dead center in L4D2 versus and seeing how pissed the other team gets.

i used to hate dictator as a character since SF2 because he was such a bitch to beat when i was a kid. now i use him in almost every fighting game he’s in besides the alpha series.

i use my car irl in maximum tune 3 and initial d 3.

in rpgs i always used name the main hero after me and his love interest after my love interest at the time.

the only resident evil game i beat was resident evil 4

TMNT isn’t that bad.

That’s just because you are a weeaboo.

Yeah, because your opinion of me matters.

Man, what. You have an animated Lucky Star avvy. What was I supposed to say. You’ve limited my options bro.

I’ve finished RE2, RE3, RE4, RE5, RE0 and Code Veronica, but to this fucking day I’ve yet to beat the original RE1 or REmake on Gamecube/Wii(I popped it in for about 15 minutes one day though, it’s awesome.)

I’ve finished GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas, GTAIV, Vice City stories and Liberty Cirty stories(PS2, better controls.) But I’ve never bothered to play through GTA1/2, Chinatown wars on any system or cared to buy the new DLC/disc of GTAIV’s DLC. GTAIII is my favorite GTA game, I’ve by far put the most time into it and I believe I have a 100% file with shit like 73 mission attempts out of 73 and such. If I failed a mission, I’d re-boot my save file. Had to have that 73 out of 73, son or else it looked ugly.

I have a sealed copy of Folklore for PS3 that I will never open because it doesn’t have trophy support. I plan on selling it at some point.

I took my battery out of my PSP2000 almost a year ago now and I haven’t played it since. Y’know, since the PSP drains battery life even when it’s completely shut off. Got tired of trying to turn it on randomly but it being completely dead every time.

My DS/PSP rarely get used. The last game I bought for either system was over a year ago.

I hate the RTS and Sports genre with a passion. The only sports games I can tolerate are ones with arcade-like gameplay, not realism.

3S, Alpha 2, CvS2 and ST are what I consider to be the best SF games. I consider Alpha 3 and the SFIV series to be complete fucking garbage. This is after I spent some time with them. I’ve never gone or seen people go for crossups more in my life.

Yes I do. And it’s awesome. Look at it and laugh.

Mhm…

  1. Got 5 hours into Final Fantasy 13, then, after not playing a Pokemon game since the original Gold and Silver, I spontaneously bought Heart-Gold, played it nonstop for a couple of weeks and beat the game, and then never picked it up again. I’ve also yet to pick up Final Fantasy 13 again… a game that I was hype for over a year for.

  2. Played Resident Evil 5, got about halfway through ( I think? ) and lost my saved data. Never finished it.

  3. I don’t usually play/beat the games I pirate… which is sad because they are usually good games.

3 and a half. Pirated Assassins Creed, didn’t finish it, then Wiki’d the rest of the game so I could buy and beat Assassins Creed 2.

3 and three quarters. Did the same thing with Uncharted… except I borrowed it from a friend, not pirated.

  1. Bought the vanilla version of Street Fighter 4 because of the hype, played it for a week, never touched it again. I’m happy to say that I got SSF4, and enjoy it very much.

  2. Bought a 3rd arcade stick that I didn’t need… and I’m still pouring money into it with custom parts/art.

  3. Was hype for Tatsunoku vs. Capcom for over a year, bought it, and never really played it. I blame not having an arcade stick at the time… but I doubt I’ll ever seriously get into it. ( Unless it remains in the EVO lineup for a while )

  4. Traded in Sonic: Unleashed even though it was a birthday present from my brother… and he NEVER gets me anything. The Werewolf thing was just so bad…

I think my biggest dissapointment in gaming history… was the release of Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Sigh.
