hey thats a good idea. popoblo should do match commentaries. you’re my hero popoblo. how ever did you get so fucking good watching match vids is beyond me.
thanks man, i appreciate the props. there’s a columbus tourney in 1 week that i’m going to, and the finals will most likely be taped, so i can comment on those IF i get to the finals. there’s old match vids of me in a cleveland tourney that i can do also, too bad i’ve gotten a lot better since then so those are kinda painful to look at=)
and actually, arturo, jeron, and jwong did cvs2 commentary on the ecc8 DVD. pretty solid stuff.
don’t be nervous (easier said than done), don’t fuck up links into super with chun li unless you’re trying to lose, don’t do wakeup super, BE PATIENT.
you can watch a match vid in a bunch of ways. you can just look for flashy combos and what not, or you can actively watch a video. for example, you see something like dash activate that hits because the person tried to tech throw. it may seem scrubby, but if earlier in the vid, you might’ve seen dash throw work, so the opponent was waiting for a throw, and got customed.
it’s also important to realize what’s NOT going on. good players don’t spam fireballs unless the matchup favors it (ie sagat vs cammy, and even then it’s selective), jump around randomly, roll a lot, roll super as the only means to land a super, etc. you’ll also realize that top players don’t rely on patterns a lot and mixup their attacks a lot. patience is huge.
those are really the main ways i watch a video, and it’s worked out pretty well for me.
