VGA vs. HDMI cable?

Hey guys, looking into if I need to switch up my cable to eliminate as much lag as possible. Currently I use a HDMI cable to my TV from my Xbox 360 S.

TV: Sharp Aquos LC 46D64U
HDMI Cable
AV Mode set to Game
Xbox Resolution set to 1080p

Will a VGA Cable give me less lag? Is that even true?

Thanks in advance for the help!

It’s not universally true, but some TVs handle image processing a lot differently on the VGA in, resulting in less lag. It depends on the TV.

you can test it yourself

just go to the tv lag thread
its somewhere

it’ll tell you all you need to know

can’t find it in the search… any idea of the full title?

Sorry to bump this thread but, it felt unnecessary to make a new one.

I recently bought a new game system, that plays all the classic Retro games of the past 30 years. One thing that surprised me is it has both VGA, as well as HDMI output. For a 2017 device this puzzles me. Why include VGA? You know, despite the added convenience of being compatible with more displays.

When doing a google search, i came across a post that says VGA is more ideal for Retro gaming than HDMI. Because HDMI upscales all the old stuff and risks lag and other inconsistencies. While VGA is more “lossless” and doesn’t upscale. It merely displays the game in analog signal as it was meant to be seen.

Any truth to this?

What is this game system?

Where it would make a difference is at the input side of the display rather than the output side of the platform. So it would depend on your TV/monitor if it upscales and whatnot on either signal.

From what I’ve seen personally, most screens don’t do any post-processing for VGA signals (for whatever reason). But keep in mind that doesn’t mean that they wiil do any post-processing for HDMI signals.

There are only two systems (DC and XB360) that do VGA natively IIRC.

That’s my understanding as well.
And out of the 2, only the X360 does VGA in addition to HDMI.

I was just curious since @AlphaCharlie said “I recently bought a new game system”, which is generically vague, rather than “I recently bought an Xbox 360”.
So my guess is that it’s not a 360 (then again, what could it be?), or @AlphaCharlie’s just ashamed to admit that he bought an X360 in this day and age (no shame in that; I myself own three X360s).

It’s a Pandora’s Box 5S. Have’nt gone through the entire built-in library yet but, it’s pretty great so far. Tons of classic shoot’em ups:
