Vewlix 'Slim' worklog (plus some other bits ...)

Basic display mount has been made but still needs to be adjusted. Cables need to be fed through the white tube …

Looks so much better than the other display.

Thanks. I think so too emphatic - it’s a good looking display. It is full HD as well which helps when hooking up to my PC.

I’ll be working on the shroud on the back of the display and getting the marquee sorted once I have adjusted the seating for the screen.

how is the lag on that model?

They did a test on the 40 inch version which has the same setup. It was reported as being 16ms (~1 frame).

I am not convinced though. It does seem to lag more than my PC monitor.

Well I managed to throw my son off the XBOX for a short period of time to conduct some test and have a tinker. I had the TV set up to use Game Mode originally and could see a noticable difference in lag when I had my PC connected to both my monitor and the Samsung.

Set to game mode (2 extra frames of lag):

Set to PC (same result on both):

May not look like much but I now have the display oriented correctly (it was leaning to the left slightly and was not completely vertical - I made another retaining piece to sort this out). All the cabling is now fed through the maintenance tube.

I need to stark working on the shroud at the back of the display soon … I’m running behind my self imposed schedule atm.

Started working on the cover/shroud for the rear of the display. Sides and 2 of the 3 panels cut and glued in place - these will need to be screwed together. This will hide all the tubes and cables. Hope to get the last panel completed tomorrow.

I didn’t want a boxy shape due to where this will eventually be located - the profile will be visible through a door.

A mini disaster this morning … when I started drilling the pilot holes, the main back panel fell off! Goes to show that the 6mm MDF and wood glue don’t mix particularly well. The quality of this board is different to the regular 12mm and 18mm boards. Managed to rectify the situation though and get the holes drilled and the screws in. I still have a lot to do getting this shaped up, fitting snugly (the cuts are good though) and covered in vinyl. I have been sure to leave the cooling vents on the display unobstructed.

Completed the basic piece - will still have to add to this but it’s definitely looking a bit tidier at the back now.

A couple of pics to show what the marquee will look like - just balanced (off-centre!) on the display at the moment. When properly mounted, it will ‘hover’ above the display slightly. Rubbish picture quality again unfortunately. Artwork not done at this point …

Annoyingly, it’s too cold and snowy to do any work on the cab this weekend so I’ve been looking into the design of the 'pedestal for this cabinet. It will be a sit down affair with interchangeable control panels. I’ve looked at many different styles and wanted to make this look fairly intricate but have settled on something simpler.

  1. Interchangeable panel - planned versions are 2 player, gun game and pinball panels at the moment - I have other ideas but I don’t want to get ahead of myself

  2. Fixed panel - this will have a lid for access and will accommodate a couple of USB ports for connection to the CPs

  3. Main stand section - this will have an integrated drop down ‘link’ section to connect to the base unit. The front facing panel for this unit will be 'sculpted (purely for aesthetics) and recessed to allow a comfortable seating position.

  4. Vewlix type panel - just for some interest

  5. Legs with adjustable feet - I’m addicted to those and thing they finish any build off nicely.

Comments/feedback/suggestions welcome.

I really need to invest some time in acquiring 3d modelling too skills …

With google sketchup you hardly need any skills and still gives a very presentable design

Thanks B15. I’ll give that a go and set some time aside.

wow - looking good

Thanks fallenlordz - not sure too many people are interested in the build as a whole … but maybe in the control panel/stand section though …

Very interested!

Hoping to make some progress on the stand soon l3et9jdh. Will look to put some plans together also. Looking to change jobs as the moment so things have been a little busy.

This looks super clean! I’ve been trying to locate some kind of acrylic holder to display the topper art that came with a CPS3 JJBA, but can’t seem to locate any for sale. Any leads on one?
Also, Congrats on the phenomenal build of the cab!

Damn, I though this thread was dead and buried! Thanks for the comment btw. The cab in this state looks nothing like as clean as it is now … I’ll have to update the first post (edit: done) …

Yes, if you search for “acrylic a4 holder wall” or “wall mount sign holder” it should yield some results.
