Versus Nu

Okay… so yes, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I just got this game yesterday. I picked up Rachel considering I had an old obsession with Slayer’s vamp nonsense, and I love the idea of the wind manipulation.

I’m still getting a few of her better combos down… but!

I’m getting shut down from midrange due to the crazy sword beams… getting up close tends to get me sliced up outside of my 6b range, and trying to toss pumps and frogs gets them/me stabbed into hell and back.

Thoughts or ideas? Suggestions? There isn’t character specific forums out yet… so yes, I did this. Kill me if you wish.

And before anyone says any about my skillz… I’m sitting at a ‘lofty’ level 24(lol) with a 49% win percentage…

Damn Nu and Icecars.

Go to practice mode and practice guard crush strings (CPU on autoblock). It will help you teach yourself how to pressure someone and keep the pressure up as well. Also take advantage of where your pole thingies are. You can probably use that to stay close. I find Nu players far less dangerous when you’re close and keeping the pressure up. With Rachel… this may or may not be hard depending on how you play Rachel.

Keep moving, and make a conscious effort to mix up your approaches.

Right, the pressure strings I’ve been working on…
I’m guessing you are referring to…

6C(D)->C->5b->6C-> repeat as a main attack? I’ve had some success with that one before. Generally with Rachel I’ve been focusing on aircombos that did massive damage more so than her ground game… but I’ve found as I go that aircombos are not nearly as good as in some games (Slayer’s CrossKick into kickpunch airjump kickpunch capetwirl)

I’m still working on Rachel as well, but this is what Iv’e gathered from my experiences.

Nothing wrong with taking it to the air, but staying grounded is important for healthy wind regen, and her ground 5C 5DC allows for very high-damage combos and oki set-up.

You’ll want to practice her mixups. Become very familiar with j.2C3D, as it’ll become one of your best friends.
