Hey all, bought one of these today off ebay for £55. Currently looking on Arcade World UK for stick/buttons. Thinking of trying out the Hayabusa, still not sure on buttons. Might try the Sanwa silents.
JLF cable is on the way from China.
Anyone tried a Hayabusa in one of these?
Am also interested in ordering one of these venom sticks and putting a Hayabusa and Sanwa buttons in it. Would a Hayabusa stick go straight in as long as I connected it with a JLF-H harness? Would there be any way to connect a Hayabusa or JLF without any soldering? I read somewhere that a JST-XH connector could work? I don’t know much about these things.
Ok I have a question for you gearheads.
I’ve just ordered one of these! As i’m in no way an expert in modding as i’ve never seen the inside of a stick in my life, I figured I’d drop the question here.
I’ve got a Madcatz TE for the 360 lying around which I absolutely adored! I haven’t touched my 360 in a while after I started playing at my mates’ ps3 (on his hori 3 fighting sticks). Having ordered this stick and having heard about the shoddy knock off quality, I’m kind of worried I won’t be liking this stick as is.
You’ve all stated the stick is still good value as it should be easily mod-able.
Now for my question. Do you think I should open my old TE and switch out my parts from that to make a very viable stick, or steal the PCB and somehow mod it into my old TE? I could also order new genuine parts and put them in the venom. That way I guess ill keep the TE intact for value reasons. Keep in mind that I’m now on PS4 and don’t think I’ll be using my old TE for anything anymore… Also keep in mind that I have no experience in modding whatsoever.
I too have a question regarding the JLF H cable. Will I be required to put a 5 pin connecter on the loose end of the wire myself and if so is this a simple procedure?
Well, it depends. If you’re on the cheap you can just swap the parts. Your TE will still work that way, and it shouldn’t matter much if you’re not planning on using it much. This being said, the Venom is great for modding, and art swaps, you if you have the funds you can could always really make it your own. A dual mod isn’t exactly a first time mod, but if you’re feeling brave go for it.
Swapping parts is really easy. Here is a guide from a different stick, but it has the exact same mounting holes. If you want to swap the stick, don’t forget the harness!
Guys this has been asked many times in this thread. I’m about to cancel my order for a TE2 which keeps on getting pushed back and I can’t wait any longer.
I have no soldering skills whatsoever but I’ve heard about 2 different methods of wiring a JLF stick to the venom without any soldering or splicing “plug and play”.
Method 1
Get a JLF-TE cable from godlikecontrols.com - Expensive but truly plug and play as both ends have connectors and there is a spare slot on the PCB for this purpose.
Method 2
Get a JST-XS cable from Amazon/EBay - Cheap and does the same job as the godlikecontrols cable?
I don’t want to splice or solder anything.
Sorry but I hope the answer to this question can put to rest any further queries from soldering noobs like myself.
Also can someone please re-upload the PSD template. The previous link is dead for me.
So I’m just getting around to switching out the buttons from my TE stick into my new venom which just arrived. Will I be able to switch out the actual stick from my TE just as easy? IE Just unplugging it from the TE and plugging it into the Venom?
I finished swapping out the buttons. Think it looks alright. It definitely feels better better!
A couple things worth noting:
The knockoff buttons aren’t the exact same size as the actual Sanwa buttons (from my old TE).
I actually wanted to use the blue button frames and white tops for all 6 main buttons, but because the sizes are different I couldn’t. The Sanwa buttons seem to be just a millimetre bigger, which make the parts not like each other.
Also the knock-off buttons are slightly higher. Which is making me doubt my current design choice because my punch buttons now have a different action from my kick buttons. But having the Sanwa microswitches makes all the difference IMO.
Got my Venom, put in my sanwa buttons and my hayabusa stick. Works fine on PS4 (can’t use PS button to turn on PS, not biggie)
But one problem, nothing major but, when connected to my PC, windows control panel is seeing all the buttons, but the top left row of buttons (share, select, start) do not work. They wont register at all. Any ideas of what I can do to fix this? For the time being I have made the PS Logo button ‘start’
