I wanted to post a thread to explain some of vega’s ins and outs. Im at work so i cant post everything but i hope that other people can help me with that. I just wanted to make sure i put in a few things that most people dont mention about vega.
One big thing first of all is vega’s jump. im sure everyone has seen how freakin high vega jumps. Almost off the screen. This makes him amazing against most other air charectors and makes him beat most air attacks. but one thing people dont know is that in a groove where you can small jump. the height of vega’s jump is about the height of most regular peoples jumps. So I would suggest for Vega to use alot of empty jumps. Empty jumping is basically jumping at your opponent and not attacking. Empty jumps are amazing especially against enemies with extremely slow reaction. After an empty jump you can get closer to an opponent and throw. Or repeatedly hit weak kick for guard damage. And you can switch up with empty jumping and jumping and attacking. Keeps your opponent guessing and fearful of his jumping because he is soo fast. Often times it gives the opponent little time to react. Also throwing in slides at a good safe range will also be effective. Vega is toooooo good.
you do a lot of jumping vega is gonna die very fast. Best thing for vega is keep him on the ground.
for air to land attacks, being able to jump high is a bad thing cuz of the elapse time before reaching the ground. it gives the opponent more time to prepare for a counter-move.
vega is not that good.
although he has a long range and is fast,
his attacks take little damage
and his special moves suck.
terry’s light kick in air beats all vega’s air to air attacks! try it
i am not sure about Capcom vs SNK, but in street fighter alpha3,
when the opponent is by the wall on either sides, you can connect flying barcalona attack with a super combo.
Don’t poke needlessly, make sure each of his pokes connect (especially the c.strong and c.RH) otherwise you might get hit by something that can punish the whiff (like Cammy’s RH or Eagle s.fierce). And yes, you rarely have to jump in with Vega, the whole point of playing him is to get people frustrated by controlling the ground, forcing them to jump and hitting them with s.RH/c.fierce AA. They’re back to square one, you retain the advantage and can go back to a poking frenzy.
His rolling ball attack is really good in poke strings since it’s very hard to punish and the only way out of it is super/custom/AC. So if you’re playing an A/P/K player, Vega can get free rolling ball pokes because they can’t or won’t waste their meter on an AC. Vega is a good character vs C/A players because his AAs will hit them all the time, without a real need to worry about getting a counter hit.
Pokes you’ll be using the most are:
[]c.strong
[]c.short, s.short, s.short, jab/strong rolling ball attack
[]c.fierce
[]c.forward
He’s a worth while character to use, but he’s pretty weak in terms of vitality. Groove wise…he’s good in pretty much all of 'em, since all you really need are his pokes and maybe his lvl 3.
i am new in here and do not understand the shortforms such as:
c.strong
c.RH
RH
s.fierces.RH/c.fierce AA.
AC.
c.strong
c.short, s.short, s.short, jab/strong rolling ball attack
c.fierce
c.forward
square one
how do i use vega’s flying moves effectively, geekb oy
Either one can be useful in it’s own way. His Sky High Claw (d, u+p) and his Flying Barcelona Attack (d, u+k, p). I might be wrong about this next part, but I keep forgetting, but SHC = the one where Vega flies across the screen with his claw straight ahead (like he was flying) and FBA = the one that looks like Bison’s Devil Reverse.
His SHC is good after knockdowns, but I don’t like using it that much because I don’t know the good uses of it that well. His FBA on the other hand is very very useful because you can cross up with it and you can also press up+p to throw the opponent instead of doing the claw slash. It’s very good and if you want, charge while doing the first one, and when you finish, do another one, and try to cross them up for a knockdown. It’s not as cheap as it was in ST, but it’s still very useful.
what do the following mean???: (help)
c.strong
c.RH
RH
s.fierces.RH/c.fierce AA.
AC.
c.strong
c.short, s.short, s.short, jab/strong rolling ball attack
c.fierce
c.forward
square one
Jab is Low Punch
Strong is Medium Punch
Fierce is Hard Punch
Short is Low Kick
Forward is Medium Kick
Hard (or Roundhouse) is Hard Kick
Things such as c-mp is just a crouching medium punch
s-HK or s-RH is a standing hard kick
AA means anti air, vega is good at that
