hdr is funny, and ppl taking hdr seriously is funnier. simple, scrubby games= more entrants (sf4/st/hdr). advanced, technical games= less entrants =( (3s/cvs2/marvel/ggxx). just the way it works here in vegas unfortunately, but definitely nice seeing consistently big turnouts for sf4. thx frisco for running the side tourney, and always thanks to game over for running this. ggs to all.
hopefully 3s/marvel side tourney(s) next sat. with no one banned.

haha jaguar, i wouldnt necessarily call cvs2/3s simple by any means. broken? yes (but what game isn’t?), simple, fuck no. there’s only maybe 3 ppl here in vegas that can eye short short super consistently, and that’s just one example.
i won hdr today, and ill say that the game isn’t deep or refined by any means lol and me winning didn’t make me think “wow this game has some depth”. it’s just a graphically updated st with tweaks, but whatever i take it with a grain of salt and just kinda smiled thru the tourney. now just cause i won i know that it doesn’t mean i have the right to be a spokesman for hdr haha, im just stating facts and bein real. to be honest i think i suck at hdr haha but whatever. anyways me/daniel play with minimal, basic knowledge of the game and made finals, simply by just relying on natural skill, instincts, and execution. minimal/basic knowledge is all u need to be ready for it, that’s why there’s more entrants to those games in vegas as opposed to cvs2/3s where you’ll get shitted on with just minimal/basic knowledge, thus hindering ppl from entering.
no offense to newbie lol, but ST was the only game he got furthest in, so what’s that have to say? newbie ur still a god in my book, i had to use u as an example cause ur the superstar of vegas.
jaguar ur still my favorite mod, come by next saturday.

A lot of the counterpicking in ST comes from circumstance. In Japan there is little counterpicking because of their tournament format. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the US format encourages counterpicking as those players are often disadvantaged in game 1, leaving them to win games 2 and 3.
The ST tournaments that most people remember occurred at the tail end of the arcade era (there wasn’t even an acceptable ST port until the Dreamcast version). It became more difficult for character specialists to practice and win their counter matchups. As people started staying in japan or developing their skills elsewhere again, we saw people win those disadvantaged matchups again.
In 3s there is always going to be less counterpicking, I can’t counter your sim or guile, because those characters don’t exist. I would even argue that part of the rebirth of 3s was when players believed that there were counterpicks in characters like 12, necro, and makoto (before she was actually top tier).
Given the fact that Team JerK (Ruin and Supreme) are like the best in vegas does present good points regarding this past Sat’s Side Tourney…
I do agree that 3s and CVS2 does take a hell of a lot more skill/experience to learn and understand. Just for that, entrants for these games that do require knowledge are lessen because the lack of skill the people don’t have (i too suck in most games) but im still willing to learn to play actual games.
as for HDR , I beat Christian in that game (which is amazing btw) without having to know anything about it in which was an upset because of how simple that game is. Supreme did use a good example using Newbie as a guinea pig for this issue (yes Newbie i too still think you are a Legend).
I know im just another scrub around the corner but it does make sense and REAL games should be organized as a side tourney

last but not the least, this is regarding what i think should happen from this point on… PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN STICK/CONTROLLER i dont mind lending my stick for SF4 (of course take care of it) because it does lag the tournament. This would be the same case on side tourney’s, if you have issues on what stick or what controller bothers you that is present at the time BRING YOUR OWN.

Hey guys, Ace here, just wanted to thank you all for showin me a great time at the tourney last night. I’ve been tryin to find out where all the best play and it finally paid off :wgrin: I didn’t think I would’ve gotten that far playing El Fuerte tho lol
