Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

yeah there’s no rose.

And if it matters any, button pressed for the claw/mask throw determines where the claw goes. lp is behind you, mp is where you are, and HP is in fron of you.

is anti-air flip kick -> ultra, possible? I haven’t gotten to try it yet.
cause I can see that most ultras are anywhere juggles.

his ultra is a pretty good way for chip death.

yea i like how when his ultra chip’s death it goes to like Maximum Spider finish slow motion bloody high claw and then the wicked laugh  sigh if it only does home in on the opponent like Maximum Spider this Ultra will be the best rather than having to time it each time for anti air etc…

really? i didnt know his ultra chip. now i can save my meter and burn my ultra instead of trying to chip them with ex drill claw and ex claw roll.

good find:badboy:

So I played some Vega today against Bobino Rufus who got 3rd at a recent AI tourney here in socal.

One thing Ino said I think is correct is the comment about time out wins. I got raped a few days ago by rufus but today I think I played pretty well basically just focusing on blocking and being patient, not getting scared when he gets in and is all over me.

It went almost to time over, which was exactly what ino said about vega.

It’s not worth it imo to jump at rufus unless you plan on hitting him out of the air with fierce or airthrow, just keep him the fuck away.
When he has ultra forget about it. Jump roundhouse anti air land, ultra so easy and damaging for rufus.

C.hp stuffs dive kick clean from max range.
Fake wall dives crossup wall dive shenanigans are a good thing, and the occasion ex punch dive to throw rufus off.
Rolling Claw>Focus Attack

I finally started to use ex punch dive against to go through fireballs and it’s very nice.
I love love love vega’s airthrow.
Punishing Honda’s torpedo with ex wall dive is awesome.

Sagat is a very very bad matchup for vega imo. I’ve gotten beat by scrub sagats who were mashing moves out. TigerKnee is so good. It seems like you can’t punish it.

I think what will separate the good vega players from great vega players in the long run is knowing exactly when you can land your ultra. I usually just throw it out like a scrub when I have it and so far haven’t been punished too badly for doing it.

vs Sagat:

You must poke from extremely far range- most of Sagat’s pokes will stuff Vega’s if they’re not fully extended.

Sagat’s jumps and his Tiger Knee are extremely vulnerable to flip kick retaliation. In fact, for some reason, the flip kick works better against him than, say, vs. Ryu.

You can always punish Tiger Knee. Remember that you have a kara-throw.

You could

EX-roll-SA dashcancel in trow.

I think it would be a decent move if you really need to get some Dmg off.

Also CR-Mp goes beats Lariat.

Vs Sagat

I find using a mix of Drill claw, air trow and camping with pokes can a least slow Sagat down.

Sorry if this was posted before.

EDIT CR-mp

What the hell did they do to his hitboxes…his claw doesn’t beat jump-ins anymore. Or at least the Cr. Fp.

Can his EX Izuna Drop be used as a AA? I had trouble beating crossups 2day, and maybe im just a scrub but i could not flip when i wanted to avoid being caught in a mix-up. Shotos mixup is bad for me.

So far, no one has discovered any really reliable anti-airs for claw (as far as I know). EX wall dive isn’t a very reliable anti-air, and I would say your better off not using it. I would not suggest using it on wake-up either to hit people who are right in your face. It gets beat out a lot, or weakly trades, puting you in the same situation.

Down forward + Roundhouse is pretty good for punishing jump-ins that land a little in front of you, but as far as punishing deep jump-ins and cross ups, the best I have found so far is just get the hell of there or block well.

FP rolling attack goes pretty far and fast, hits all around him, and he ducks low to do it, so its not bad for escaping repeated jump-in loops and getting some distance, but good dashers will catch-up quick.

There is always flip-kick, but it is pretty weak as far as hit boxes.

 1. i’m wondering the same thing. c.hp is garbage as an anti air now. standing hk still works okay though. flip kicks are situational for AA.

 2. no, ex izuna drop has no priority going up. its fast though.

i usually use air throw, jump back hp, jump back hk as anti air along with standing hk and occasional flip kicks as mentioned.

I know man that flip kick is terrible now. I can’t space like I want to. But I think when I play some more I’ll get better with him. I ain’t turtling hard enuff I guess.

played some games today. agree with you fellas. Cr.F is garbage, and should not be used as an Anti-Air. Flip kicks are good, but seem to gotta do it earlier than you want.

I have no problems playing against Zangief. Pokes galore, just avoiding jabs.

Anyone have any recent tips on how to face off a Turtling Guile?

I was having fun today just throwing my claw around. Seems everyone doesn’t know what it does, so they just sit there and block/

Also, any good attacks for a dash in, after a SA? Planning to go again on Friday.

flip kick was never really that good after ST (it beat out ryus dp in ST). A3 flip kick loses to a lot of stuff on ground but works well as an anti air. dunno about cvs1, as i didnt play it much. cvs2 flip kick sucks but at least it was good when you can rc it.

all charge based anti airs in sf4 sucks except maybe balrog and blankas but vega has the worst. at least balrog and blankas works really really well as an anti air, just not so hot against ground based attacks. guiles flash kick is the opposite, sucks vs air based moves but awesome on the ground. vega’s just sucks

edit:

c.mk is your best friend vs guile.

yeah I haven’t found anything good in the way of AA with Claw either. most of the time I just flip/walljump my way out, or jump and meet them air-to-air, in which case Air throw or FP work. St.HK is ok or hitting early in their jump. (I think)

Here’s a vid of a pretty good Claw player, he knows his ultras pretty well.

anyone notice that his ultra tracks a little bit? Like the angle changes depending on where the opponent is, I’ve seen the line be nearly horizonal.

BTW, does anyone know what he says during his Ultra?

EX rolling claw has too much start up '-_-

Just df+HK -> d+HK (if you dont have meter)
or df+HK -> Ex walljump -> Izuna drop. (can hit even if his SA hits at max range, after you dash of course)

Well I’m just speculating but at high levels in the future I see him being played to rely solely on his Ultra, and camping building meter with safe izuna drops in the corner… You don’t know how many times i baited a whiff to have them eat the ultra, and it has pretty good damage to it too. That pro is one of his gleeming traits, and playing defensive on the other side of the screen using patience to wear someone out.

One major con is his defense. : ( jeez.

from what i know is that his Ultra never tracks it is always the same angle where he flies towards the opponent it was probably the display that they had was at a stretched screen that’s why u think it tracks.

doesn’t he say something bloody high claw and the wicked laugh in his Ultra?

“Look behind yoooouuuu!” “HAHAHAHAHA”

Cool, thanks. I was wondering because its the only words I’ve ever heard Claw say. I know “Bloody High Claw” is what he says before the laugh. I just didnt know what he said when he jumps on the wall.

That’s what I’m thinking also, but I hope it doesn’t come to that. I hate having to rely on a super to win. It’s why I didnt like Chun in 3s. Claw’s never been a great damage dealer though, just good with pokes.

Yeah, one thing I’ve noticed in this game is how many low defense characters there are. 4 take more damage than normal for sure. (Akuma, Fuerte, Viper and Claw). that or maybe I should stop playing Q.

oh what? i guess he plays so fast… didn’t realize he took damage like a bitch… not what i expected from one of the 4 kings =(

Yeah. He is a bit on the frail side. If I don’t find something else good about Vega soon, he might just have to get dropped or he will be my side character.

Because in all seriousness, Claw should never be hard to play with. He’s suppose to be scrub-friendly for god sake lol.

you’re right about the scrub friendly. Vega can izuna drop all day. It’s a scrub’s dream come true lol.

When you actually have meter for super, any one know the right time to use it? Also, bad memory, is it the same motion as the ultra, just without the 3ks?

Hopefully i’ll get more games in tomorrow, spending a dollar a game kinda makes you forget all the stuff you learned from the forums and videos.
