Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Does anyone remember that good vega video that was up on nicovideos or whatever with all the weird shit?

It’s in the new matchup guide.

I prefer cr.mk as a wakeup option over stand hp, it is 1f faster, but gives better frame advantage and hits low at the cost of a bit of damage. I remember using that a bit against people. Although there is something to be said about using moves in places people don’t usually see them.

I like lk pressure as well, because at +2 it sets up his only real frame trap against people with good 3f moves, canceling it into crouch lp, mp, or stand rh. I have had people stick out 3f moves to trade during lk pressure, but it’s not that common

First post I hope?

actually those aren’t what I meant. This wasn’t a recording on a TV it was a direct capture, and it was stuff like doing a jumping fierce crossup on big characters like Zangief or Sagat, and other stuff like wall jumping from full distance to hit with a medium punch.

Are you talking about this one?

ok I give up , what the fuck do i need to do / press / kill to watch that vid ?

You need an account. When you click the link, there should be 2 large boxes right there. Registerign should be the one on the right. (If you can’t read it, just mouseover and look at the link on the bottom; that much is in english)

I think a more important question is, WHY ARE YOU PLAYING VEGA? STOP WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!ONEONEONE

Although the redirector only activates after you’ve perfected 50 Blankas.

That’s it!

I wonder if anyone has translated a bit of this? I mean it is pretty easy to see most of what he’s doing. All the production and sound FX make it really fun to watch too.

Someone wanna explain a safe jump to me, and can vegas do it? From wha ti understand a safe jump is where you jump over someone and do an attack that clips the back of them? right? Preventing a shoryuken from hitting you or whatever.
Also how do you block a safe jump properly? I know Ryu and Ken spam the shit out of it. Always jumping overhead and managing to hit me even though ive been blocking the whole time.
If for example, I’m on the right and my opponent is on the left naturally. He jumps over me and attacks in mid jump past me. Do i hold right to block, or shift left?

that is not a safe jump , what you’re looking for is called a cross up . see to help you understand what it is

btw it doesnt avoid Srk coz auto turnaround will make it hit you . And Vega doesnt have a cross up aside from the slash from the Barcelona dive .

as for what a Safe jump really is , its when u do a meaty jump in on wake up , its safe coz if they block you can finish your blockstring , if you it hits you finish the combo , if they try a reversal u have enough time to block the counter move then punish

safe jump dont have to be meaty ( however , a meaty of wake up is the most used way of safe jumps ) . Safe jump at a distance and the startup of the reversal will be too slow to hit you.

also , Shotos cant be Safe jumped coz srk hits at frame 3 which means it’ll hit before you can block .
but According to laxlight , Vega can jump in with MP and avoid the reversal coz of the angle of the jump , which one way or another is the whole point of a safe jump eventhough it isnt an actual safe jump

there is a way to safe jump on ryu but the timing is extremely strict. after an izuna drop you wait a bit (let ryu’s body bounce a bit from your izuna drop), walk up a certain distance and then jump in with a meaty fierce that hits from the very tip and from a very high angle. if you pull it off correctly:

these moves get stuffed on reversal:
-shoryu (jab)
-EX tatsu

and these moves whiff completely on reversal:
-shoryu (strong, fierce, EX)

the shoryus whiff and basically go under you because you’re jumping in from such a weird angle. you will be able to land and punish from there

for maximum effectiveness you can add in an option select slide or cr.fierce and ryu will not be able to backdash either

Q: Why do 95% of all Claw players spam c.mp all the time(just keep pressing)? is that all you can do? no skills…

It’s a good poke. and We don’t “spam” it…well, I should hope not anyway. It has decent range and priority and is generally part of a lot of claws combos.

I’m assuming by your avi that you’re a Bison player. Why do you use cr.mk? I’ll tell you, it’s a good little poker and can lead into links…say…knee press?

We have a similar concept, it can set us up for other stuff like into EX FBA.

That’s awesome. I’ll start practicing right away. Is there any way you can upload a vid to show what you’re talking about Tatsu? I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to figure it out but a reference would help.

sorry. i want to record a video myself, but unfortunately my capture card has been giving me troubles lately

give it a shot and head into training mode (1p ryu, 2p vega set on record/playback, you know the drill)

it’s a very useful setup but i’m not too consistent in pulling it off atm so i figured i should share it. maybe you guys will have better luck than me. no idea if it works on any other characters yet (like akuma/ken/dan/etc), but it doesn’t seem to work on sagat.

i’m not 100% sure but i think dictator has a similar safe jump with his j.fierce too.

I will stop it the second I get grabbed out of a second MP or it gets blocked. However if a person does not block that second MP I will get stabby because it is an excellent poke which people everywhere under estimate.

It’s useful against players who expect me to put on a monocle and pop out BnB combos as if I were Akuma or lock down with block strings if I were Bison. I’m not either of those characters, I’m playing Vega, and if you get hit by a second or third medium punch, just imagine me laughing.

This, unless I’m against a Rog.

let me restate what i said on gamefaqs,

there are two instances where vega can safe jump on just about anybody.

1.after an izuna drop, wait for a split second, jump in and press mp a bit late(it should not whiff on a crouching opponent).so if you get the timing down, you should
be able to land the mp and finish the blockstring on a guarding opponent or recover just in time to block all of his aa moves.so its a scenario where they block, get hit or do an aa that will be blocked by vega everytime.(although im aware of the fact that its not a true safe jump since you dont actually stuff your opponent’s reversal aa)

1a.the variation to the izuna drop safe jump is more or less what tatsu said, the timing is VERY VERY strict.right after the izuna drop, walk exactly two steps forward, wait for a micro second and do a jump in early hp.as i said on gamefaqs,i rarely use this method because its far too unreliable and was pretty impossible
for me to do it in clutch situations.

2.after a hk scarlett terror, immediately backdash once and do a jump in mp(assuming that they quick get up),this again has the same properties of the safe jump in mp descriped in point 1.this is a really reliable way to land your safe jump because your backdash really helps to time your safe jump mp to perfection(unlike the izuna scenario where you got to solely time your jump by yourself).this again works on all the opponents and does wonders against gief.i would say that this particular safe jump set up
is absolutely crucial in beating good giefs because you recover just in time to block his aa lariats.also this is the only scenario that i know of where a vega can force the gief to block everytime.if you notice this is what wasa beef does to itabashi zangief in that third place match.(although he mistimed it in a couple of instances)

also im restating that this is not your conventional safe jump where you force the opponent to block by stuffing their aa reversal.i guess you can somewhat
call it as a defensive safe jump.
